Real estate developer and oil tycoon William Balser "Bill" Skirvin, opened to the public “The newest, finest hotel in the Southwest.” In its original stature, the Skirvin consisted of two 10-story towers, and contained 300 rooms. In 1926, a 13-floor third tower was added to the original 10-story towers, and by 1930, all three wings were leveled off to 14 floors. Skirvin Hilton Hotel History • After the death of W.B. Skirvin in 1945, the Skirvin family sold the 500-room hotel to 43-year-old hotelier Dan James for $3 million. For the next 43 years, ownership of the Skirvin Hilton passed through the hands of several investors and businessmen, including a Chicago-based group named “The Syndicate,” downtown developer H.T. Griffin, trustee Stanton L. Young, and a partnership group headed by Ron Burks. • Once the host to such notable figures as Harry Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Elvis, Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Hoffa, Roger Staubach, Mikhail Baryshnikov, and Bob Hope, the Skirvin closed its doors in 1988 and sat neglected for the next 19 years. The Skirvin’s story looked bleak. • After more than $50 million dollars in improvements, the hotel reopened as The Skirvin Hilton on February 26, 2007. Oklahoma celebrated its rebirth and a new legacy began. • The Skirvin Hilton now boasts 225 luxuriously appointed guest rooms and suites, 18,500 square feet of meeting space, two ballrooms, three world-class board rooms, three sumptuous event rooms, and a pre-function lounge room. The Skirvin is the go-to venue for business people, event hosts, and party- goers alike. For the business traveler, the Skirvin Hilton’s hotel business center provides a highly efficient and effective work environment with a variety of services, office equipment, and high-speed Internet access. Health-conscious guests will enjoy working out on the latest cardio and strength equipment in the fitness center before taking a dip in the heated indoor pool. Skirvin Hilton History • While the history and traditions still remain, our celebrity clientele has continued to grow including the likes of Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Steven Tyler, Beyonce, Bill Clinton, Laura Bush, Carrie Underwood, Rascal Flatts, Kristin Chenoweth, Anthony Bourdain, Stevie Wonder, Yoko Ono and the majority of the NBA. It’s our great relationship and customer service that made the Skirvin lobby the obvious choice for OKC Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook’s currently running Footlocker commercial. • With so many great attributes, it’s no wonder the Skirvin Hilton has been featured in Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards as #3 in the ‘Top 15 Hotels in the Midwestern United States, ranked #1 in both Best Oklahoma City Hotels and Best Oklahoma Hotels for third consecutive year by US News and World and a AAA Four Diamond rating for 10th consecutive year in a row. We welcome you to the Great State of Oklahoma Looking forward to hosting you next September 2018. Safe travels! Until next time…… .
