In our modern Bibles, it seems to be true that Matthew's genealogy may be missing a few generations. It had certainly already left out confirmed generations 40, 41, 42 as noted above. If none are missing from here on, that means that about 562 years passed during 12 generations (#52 to #64). This means an average of 48 year old new fathers! (at that time, the average whole human lifetime was about 35 yrs.) This additionally implies that Matthew's listing left out some generations.

Continuing Luke's Genealogy (of Mary??) If this genealogy contains all the intermediate generations then the 562 years is over 21 generations, or an average for the newborn father's age of 27 years, much more likely than Matthew's 48 years.But this still suggests that the listings are not complete, for whatever reason the Lord chose. (In order that this chart be compatible with the Matthew listing above, I have found it necessary to create (imaginary) fractional generations, to be able to fit all the Luke generations in the space that is provided per Matthew!)
