The other one of course, securing a resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, and as everyone on this call knows, the progress has been uneven, and analysts and journalists and lawmakers have consistently sought to understand why it is that, among other things, robust political and economic institutions in the West Bank, the prerequisite for a Palestinian state, has failed to take hold. There are few, if any people in Washington, D.C. or the country that have analyzed this more deeply than Dr. Jonathan Schanzer, who joins us today from the Foundation for Defense of Democracies. Dr. Schanzer has written about this extensively over many, many years. He has studied it on multiple continents. Während in den internationalen Medien das „Chaos“ und der „blutige Machtkampf“ nach dem Tod Jassir Arafats schon fast herbei geschrieben wird (So der Nachrichtensender N24 am 28.10.04, Der Standard vom 2.11.04, die Los Angeles Times vom 29.10.04 und die Welt vom 6.11.04), stellt sich die Lage in den Palästinensischen Gebieten weitaus nüchterner dar.
