Castell Talacharn Mae Castell Talacharn yn sefyll yn osgeiddig ar esgair isel uwchben aber eang afon Taf, ac mae’n un o gyfres o geyrydd a oedd yn rheoli’r hen lwybr ar hyd arfordir y De-orllewin. Peidiwch â cholli twˆr campus y gogledd-orllewin a’i do carreg cromennog anarferol, na’r golygfeydd gwych o’r bylchfuriau. Mewn cyfnod mwy diweddar, daeth y safle’n ysbrydoliaeth i rai o gewri llenyddol Cymru. Yma yr ysgrifennodd Dylan Thomas ei gyfres o storïau byrion, Portrait of the Artist as a Young Dog a lluniodd Richard Hughes ei nofel, In Hazard. Castell Cydweli Mae Castell Cydweli yn dyst i dechnoleg gwaith maen y gaer Llys yr Esgob yn Llandyfái ganoloesol. Dyma gastell cadarn a thrawiadol a gafodd ei ddatblygu dros fwy na thair canrif o ryfel rhwng y Cymry a’r Saeson. Ym 1136 cafodd y Dywysoges Wladwriaeth. Daeth cyfnod llewyrchus Llandyfái i ben pan gafodd Gwenllïan (gwraig Arglwydd Deheubarth) ei lladd mewn brwydr ei drosglwyddo i Henry VII ym 1546. Mae’r neuadd fawr a’r porthdy yn erbyn y Normaniaid a oedd yn meddiannu Cydweli ar y pryd. mewnol yn gampau pensaernïol arbennig o dda.     Report No. 26/18 National Park Authority REPORT OF ACCESS & RIGHTS OF WAY MANAGER SUBJECT: RIGHTS OF WAY IMPROVEMENT PLAN FOR PEMBROKESHIRE Purpose of Report To update members on the preparation of a second Rights of Way Improvement Plan for Pembrokeshire and seek members’ approval of the consultation draft plan. Background The Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 places a duty on each highway authority to publish a Rights of Way Improvement Plan (ROWIP) for their area. The legislation also provides for the highway authority to work jointly with a National Park Authority where parts of a local authority area fall within a national park. The ROWIP is the prime means by which local authorities identify, prioritise and plan for improvements to their local rights of way network. The ROWIP aims to guide the strategic development of the public rights of way network with improvements to meet the current and future needs of walkers, cyclists, horse riders and disabled people. An initial ROWIP covering the period 2008-2018 was therefore prepared jointly by the National Park Authority and Pembrokeshire County Council. In accordance with Welsh Government guidance, issued in July 2016, local authorities are required to review their plan and prepare a successor plan by July 2018. The National Park Authority has therefore worked closely Pembrokeshire County Council over the last two years in the preparation of the successor plan. The review of the implementation of the ROWIP 2008-18 showed that the plan has successfully guided a wide range of public rights of way improvements, which have contributed to the health and well-being of resident communities and helped to support the local economy.

    This watermark does not appear in the registered version - http://www.clicktoconvert.com North Pembrokeshire Transport Forum Fforwm Trafnidiaeth Gogledd Penfro ANNUAL REPORT 2005 – 2006 Introduction The Forum works for the provision of an effective integrated transport system in the North Pembrokeshire area, promotes the benefits of public transport and works towards greater use of public transport systems. Its activities involve conducting research and gathering data with regard to all aspects of transport; providing an advice and assistance service to the travelling public; actively promoting its aims to and through governmental, quasi-governmental and advisory bodies; and working with bodies with similar aims. The Forum has been taking stock of the transport scene in North Pembrokeshire as it comes to the end of its three-year grant from the Sustainable Development Fund and its first six years of work. With regard to the provision of transport we have seen many improvements in bus, cycle and community transport services and facilities in North Pembrokeshire during the past six years. In contrast, there have been no improvements in train services. The following report provides more detail with regard to transport developments and the work of the Forum during the past year. Buses Service improvements: · Pembrokeshire County Council (PCC) is subsidising extra services between Fishguard and Haverfordwest on Friday and Saturday evenings in response to a request from POINT, the Fishguard young people’s drop-in centre. · In consultation with the community, PCC has arranged improved bus services for Spittal, with the addition of a Wednesday service and a shorter journey added to the existing Friday service.

    “Marshal towers” in South-West Wales: Innovation, Emulation and Mimicry “Marshal towers” in South-West Wales: Innovation, Emulation and Mimicry John Wiles THE CASTLE STUDIES GROUP JOURNAL NO 27: 2013-14 181 “Marshal towers” in South-West Wales: Innovation, Emulation and Mimicry Historical context Earl William the Marshal (d. 1219) was the very flower of knighthood and England’s mightiest vassal.4 He had married the de Clare heiress in 1189 gaining vast estates that included Netherwent, with Chepstow and Usk castles, as well as the great Irish lordship of Leinster. He was granted Pembroke and the earldom that went with it at King John’s acces- sion in 1199, probably gaining possession on his first visit to his Irish lands in 1200/01.5 Although effec- tively exiled or retired to Ireland between 1207 and 1211 (Crouch, 2002, 101-115), the Marshal consoli- dated and expanded his position in south-west Wales, acquiring Cilgerran by conquest (1204) and Haver- fordwest by grant (1213), as well as gaining custody of Cardigan, Carmarthen and Gower (1214). In 1215, however, whilst the Marshal, soon to be regent, was taken up with the wars in England, a winter campaign led by Llywelyn ap Iorwerth of Gwynedd ushered in a Welsh resurgence, so that at the Marshal’s death all save the Pembroke lordship, with Haverfordwest, had been lost. Llywelyn, who had been granted cus- tody of Cardigan and Carmarthen in 1218, returned to devastate the region in 1220, again destroying many of its castles.6 Fig 1. Urban Capacity Study The study of potential capacity of urban areas to accommodate extra housing on new or redeveloped sites at various densities, or by the conversion of existing buildings. Windfall Windfall sites are sites not specifically identified in the plan as housing allocations but which are developed for housing. 2 1 Introduction 1.1 This exercise has been undertaken to provide information as part of the Local Development Plan (LDP) process. The report looks at potential land that might be available for housing that has not been allocated under the LDP – so called ‘windfall’ housing. 1.2 An analysis of the number of windfall houses likely to be developed over the course of the plan period is important in order to understand fully how many houses in total will be built. 1.3 Many assessments of windfall housing examine previous trends in housing completions and project these forwards. In the case of Pembrokeshire, however a significant change in policy approach and the historic development of a number of large windfall sites mean that such a projection, based on historic completions would be misleading. 1.4 As an alternative approach, this study has assessed the potential for windfall sites within settlement boundaries identified in the Deposit Local Development Plan for Pembrokeshire and from this calculated a potential windfall housing figure.

    Calculation of Council Tax The Council has calculated its tax base for 2017-18 at 55,919.65 and set the council tax at £883.15 (band ‘D’ equivalent). Council has also resolved that an additional Council Tax premium of 50% be introduced for Second Homes from the 1st April 2017 for the 2017-18 financial year.
