his year’s Internatonal Women’s Day was jointly organized by Natonal Commission for Women and Children (NCWC), Bhutan Network for Empowerment of Women (BNEW) and RENEW with the global theme “Women in the Changing World of Work: Planet 50-50 by 2030” on 8th March. The inaugural Ceremony was graced by Her Majesty Gyalyum Sangay Choden Wangchuck, Tthe Founder and the President of RENEW. Among the guests were His Excellency the Prime Minister, Her Excellency, the Minister of Ministry of Works and Human Setlement (MoWHS) who is also the Chairperson of NCWC, His Excellency, Minister of Health, His Excellency Minster of Educaton, Eminent Members of Parliament, Secretaries, Internatonal Dignitaries, CSO representatves, Volunteers (MSTF-CBSS, DAISAN), youth and ofcials from diferent agencies.

Following the inauguraton, a three day seminar on Women in Governance was conducted led by BNEW.

RENEW celebrates the 14th Foundaton Day at Dolma Lhakhang as an tribute to Her Majesty wishing Her Majesty for a long and prosperous life. “Celebrating Voices over Silence”

ith joint support from IPPF EC champions, UN women and UNFPA, RENEW hosted its frst ever short flm festval “Celebratng Voices over Silence” on 4th March 2017 Wat Le Meridian Hotel, Thimphu. The flm festval was a youth based programme to kick start events leading towards the Internatonal Women Day, 8th March 2017. The event was graced by Her Royal Highness Gyalsem Ashi Euphelma Choden Wangchuck, the Vice President of RENEW. The dignitaries present were Ministers, Secretaries, Hon’ble Members of Parliament, representatves from CSOs, CBSS volunteers, Teachers & Students. Bringing Bhutanese youth between the ages 17-29 were encouraged to submit their flms to RENEW for the “Celebratng Voices over Silence” open competton. From the total submissions, youth to 8 short flms were shortlisted to enter the fnal festval round. Total number of people reached in Eight Dzongkhags : 15,246 Rallying with the public The team reached 15,246 people from diferent sectors in 8. Outcome of the High level advocacy The advocacy was very successful as it brought together all the key stakeholders to address health and social priorites. It enabled involvement of community people, students, teachers, service providers (Judiciary, Health, CSO, educaton sector, Armed Forces) in the dialogue to address the issues. The following are the achievement of the High level Advocacy:

A total of 33 Khuruthang MSS partcipants (21 male and 12 Female) consistng of CBSS volunteers, DAISAN coordinators, Multsectoral Task Force members and Ofcer In-charge (RBP) from 5 Dzongkhags (Samtse, Chukha, Sarpang, Samdrup Jongkhar & Pema Gatshel partcipated in the training.). Towards the end of the workshop the partcipants drew acton plans to be implemented in their respectve Dzongkhags where they will further train and sensitze the communites.
