Never could get it to burn a disc!! Why is it still in the repository. You can find it in the software manager or just install it through your terminal by copy and paste the code below. Code Select all sudo apt install xfburn So far Ive only used it to burn ISO images and it has never failed. I also use Mint 18.3 and I have Brasero 3.12.1 I wonder if it is possible to install a newer version with the bugs fixed. Does Mint 19.2 have a newer version of Brasero. Thank you for any information. Never tried a Blue Ray though!! I checked, both is present in the Mint 18.3 application manager. Xfburn is very user friendly and reliable. I use it all the time for burning Cds and , BUT I honestly dont know if its very good at burning blurays. But you can try. Its available in LInuxMints Software Manager. is often praised by experienced forummembers. Its quite a hassle sometimes to get it installed correctly, but it has tons of options. And it will burn blurays successfully.K3b is often praised by experienced forummembers. But be aware that it will pull in a LOT of KDE dependencies in order to work. But later I moved to Brasero because I saw that he did a checksum check. I can not understand if even Xfburn does this, in the options I find nothing, you know if maybe this checksum checks the writing automatically and without telling the user By checksum check I mean write control. I see nothing pirated or illegal in this. Also some burning software for Windows have this function, sometimes activated by default, sometimes it must be activated by the user.. adatadvd In all my years of burning cds or dvds I have never had a problem though.http://xn----otbabpoogeff7mf.xn--p1ai/archive/image/dtr-hd500-manual.xml

A checksum is on the list of future plans for Xfburn, so I have read on Github. Below is perhaps a solution, while using Xfburn The underlying libisofs offers MD5 for the whole ISO filesystem and for each data file, if desired. Nevertheless, optical media have their own checksumming of blocks or larger chunks, which is nearly as good as checksums for the data payload. You just have to make sure not to read into unchartered waters at the end of the medium.I would be happy to advise any new developer of Xfburn. But on i only see translation and a single bug fix about a FreeBSD problem. No development of core features to see. Have a nice day Thomas All the best So he might not feel in charge. Have a nice day Thomas Besides checksums and bootability it could need multisession capabilities. Have a nice day Thomas It doesnt support Bluray writing though. Probably for the better as pretty much Ubuntus wiki appears to suggest regarding for Bluray burning per se.I have seen it in use in the 1990s, when CD burning was still a breath taking adventure. Replacing wodim by cdrecord and genisoimage by mkisofs will not do harm. But it will hardly get you better DVD or BD handling with K3B, which normally uses growisofs for DVD and BD, or Brasero, which uses either growisofs or libburn. Xfburn uses libburn and libisofs fixely. So cdrecord or mkisofs will not influence its successes or failures. It is true that cdrecord has better capabilities about DVD and BD than wodim has. But that is really not a difficult goal to achieve, as wodim was composed from a CDonly version of cdrecord and a quite poor DVDenabling hack named dvdrecord. So i would not advise cdrecord as backend for DVD and BD.But not to forget The initial problem of this thread is something inside Brasero, not in the backends. So the only remedy for Brasero would be if it gets developer attention. As with Xfburn, i could give advise about burning and ISO 9660 production. Have a nice day Thomas. Description of problem.

I burned some files to DVD using brasero, and the burn progressed at about 1x speed. I burned a second disk with gnomebaker, and it burned at the expected 16x. What you as userSince gnomebaker also uses wodim, but works at full speed, I would guess that the two are passing different options to wodim. I restored the original wodim and removed the newly built cdrecord. If brasero uses growisofs instead, the problem does not occur. To work around the situationWith this change, brasero is able to burn at full speed. To work around the situationSee image attached. It seems that there are burners that work better with wodim and those that work better with growisofs. The only real problem I see is that the brasero user interface doesnt allow for the selection. Could that be made a user visible option, so that endusers dont have to stumble through gconfeditor. That seems to be the only way this bug will ever get resolved. The only real problem I see is that the brasero user. DeVeDe might complain with strange errors if you use more than 80% of the disk capacity. They have to be essential and reliable. Some drives can only read from discs, but recent drives are commonly both readers and recorders, also called burners or writers. Compact discs, DVDs, and Bluray discs are common types of optical media which can be read and recorded by such drives.Generally, using a slow burn speed is recommended for reliable burns.

If you are experiencing unexpected behaviour from the disc, try burning at the lowest speed supported by your burner. The image may in principle be any data file. If you want to mount the resulting medium, then it is usually an ISO 9660 file system image file. Audio and multimedia CDs are often burned from a.bin file, under control of a.toc file or a.cue file which tell the desired track layout.See HelpStyle for reference. They are the back ends which are used by most free GUI programs for CD, DVD, and BD. GUI users might get to them when it comes to troubleshooting or to scripting of burn activities. This volume label will probably show up as mount point if the medium is mounted automatically. Noncompliant to Joliet specs and not commonly supported. To mount the ISO image, we can useVolume size is 2041796This is done byIt overwrites the payload data on the CD. Nevertheless this should not be considered as securely making those data unreadable. For that purpose, several full write runs with random data are advised. For that purpose one has to use one ofSo consider to apply once in their life timeThis is done automatically by the burn programs when they detect the unformatted state. Nevertheless the size of the payload area can be influenced by expert versions of the format commands shown above for DVDRW.Unformatted they are written with full nominal speed and offer maximum storage capacity. Formatted they get checkread during write operations and bad blocks get replaced by blocks from the Spare Area. This reduces write speed to a half or less of nominal speed. The default sized Spare Area reduces the storage capacity by 768 MiB.The others do not. growisofs can be kept from formatting.Mounting may happen automatically if the medium contains a readable file system. In the best case, it will prevent the burn programs from using the burner device. In the worst case, there will be misburns because read operations disturbed the drive.

It issues an error message after the burning is complete. Programs like k3b then believe the whole burn run failed. To prevent this, eitherAlways eject the medium and reinsert it before verifying. It will guarantee that any kernel cache will not be used to read the data.Although some media types deliver exactly the same amount of data as have been submitted to the burn program, many others append trailing garbage when being read. So you should restrict reading to the size of the ISO image file.Only very old CD drives at very old computers could suffer failed burns due to empty drive buffer. This can be piped into the standard input of burn programs. It prevents cdrecord from writing to the medium before mkisofs starts its output. This would allow mkisofs to read the medium without disturbing an already started burn run. See next section about multisession. The new tree is accompanied by the content blocks of newly added or overwritten data files. The blocks of data files, which shall stay as in the old ISO tree, will not be written again. This youngest tree will normally show the files of the older sessions, too. They all do with CDR and CDRW, of course. But with ISO 9660 it is possible to achieve the multisession effect even on those media.See above examples of mkisofs. It bans option o and deprecates option . By default it uses the mkisofs. You may specify to use one of the others compatible backend program by setting environment variable MKISOFSSo it is appropriate to blank it if it contains data. It does not cause error if applied to a blank writeonce medium.Of course, no command blank should be given hereThis feature reads the written blocks while they are still stored in the drive buffer. In case of poor read quality the blocks get written again or redirected to the Spare Area where the data get stored in replacement blocks.Sometimes it is even worse. Heavy use of the Spare Area causes long delays during read operations. So Defect Management is not always desirable.
