LA Dodgers Press Releases Fan “Loses Head” over Dodger Homerun Most Americans are anxious at home, only leaving for essential trips. Little did we know the most treacherous place to be right now is at a Major League Baseball stadium. Just ask Dodger fan Austin Donley. Donley’s cutout lost its head with the full force of Will Smith’s solo home run during the July 25 matchup against the Giants. After the incident went viral on Twitter, the superfan earned the ball as a souvenir and a personal apology from Smith. “It was important for us to figure out how to recreate the fan experience at home,” said John Chapper, Dodgers Assistant Director of Public Relations. “Our main focus was to engage with fans to get them excited for the season even though they’re unable to join us at Dodger Stadium.” Dodger Stadium cutouts are available for purchase online through the Dodgers official MLB website. All net proceeds benefit the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation and its fight to improve education, health care, homelessness and social justice for all Angelenos. Dodgers fans can also order their favorite stadium snacks through Postmates to be delivered to their home on game day. The Los Angeles Dodgers are an American professional baseball team based in Los Angeles, California. The Dodgers compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the National League (NL) West division. Established in 1883 in the New York City borough of Brooklyn, the team relocated to Los Angeles before the 1958 season. They played four seasons at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum before moving to Dodger Stadium in 1962. The Dodgers have won six World Series championships and twenty three National League pennants. ### Play Ball! MLB Battles Brutal Opponent: COVID-19 You may have seen the curveball thrown at professional baseball this season: that is, playing during a global pandemic. From fan cutouts to reproduced crowd noises, Major League Baseball (MLB) teams are reinventing the phrase “take me out to the ball game.” After the MLB finalized plans to resume the season, teams devised clever ways to engage viewers from afar. The Los Angeles Dodgers invited enthusiasts to purchase a cutout for themselves – or their furry friends – to sit in Dodger Stadium, with proceeds benefiting the Dodgers Foundation. Likewise, the Arizona Diamondbacks recreated the ambiance during their home opener by inviting fans to participate in the seventh-inning stretch via Zoom. “Every team struggled with how to engage fans,” said Juan Dorado, Dodgers Public Relations Director. “We’ve been amazed at the response from viewers and on social media and are proud of each of these tactics.” One fan experience went viral on Twitter. Dodgers catcher Will Smith hit a solo homerun in the July 25 game against the Giants, striking a cutout and taking off its head. After Dodger’s enthusiast Austin Donley tweeted about the incident, asking Smith for the ball that hit his cutout, the tweet was retweeted nearly 2,000 times and garnered 18,000 likes. Smith responded with an apology and a promise to secure the ball for Donley. Interactions like this can go a long way until fans are “going, going, gone!” back to Dodgers Stadium. February 28, 2017 NEWS RELEASE Dodgers Opening Day Starts & Ends at Philippe’s Los Angeles – Dodger baseball and Philippe’s French Dips go together like peanuts and Cracker Jacks. Baseball fanatics and those along for the ride will again be able to enjoy some opening day festivities at Philippe’s on Monday, April 3, ahead of the Dodgers home opener versus the San Diego Padres at 1 p.m. Like previous home openers, Philippe’s will be ready for the pre-game fans – the Bud Light Girls and Angel City Brewery will be on-site – and a French Dip will satisfy any craving before heading to the stadium. A beer station with two options on tap will be open for those who want to enjoy a few without waiting in one of the carver lines. Opening day festivities will begin at 9:30 a.m., and that morning only; last call for breakfast will be at 9 a.m. Although the main festivities take place before the game, Philippe’s is still the spot to grab a drink or bite after the game. Philippe’s will raffle off a pair of tickets to a future Dodger game. When fans arrive at the restaurant, they will have the opportunity to fill out a raffle ticket to enter the drawing. The winner will be drawn and announced the next day on Philippe’s social media feeds, and the winner will be notified directly to arrange pick-up for their tickets to the upcoming game.

  • Socal Vs. Nocal? No Contest the Best Rivalry in Sports Heats Up
SoCal vs. NoCal? No Contest The Best Rivalry in Sports Heats Up By Chris Brown and Casey Shearer It s the latter half of September, which means the fall breezes are blowing and the leaves are changing. The smell of hot-dogs and stale beer is in the air; everybody wants peanuts and Crackerjacks; children run home from school and head to the sandlot. All of which are symptoms of pennant fever. Or at least they should be. But as we look around, nobody seems to care about baseball at all. In what is usually the most exciting time of the year for baseball fans, that special excitement is somehow absent. Even as Mark McGwire and Ken Griffey Jr. chase Babe Ruth and Roger Maris, and Larry Walker chases the triple crown, something is missing: What's missing, kosher hot-dogs? A players? strike? Roy Hobbs? Steve Howe and his crack? The Cubbies? Has baseball become so unpopular so as to lose the interest of all its fans? Is it just that baseball lacks that type of hype, flashy color and big-money that basketball purports or the bone crushing thrills of football? No, what's missing are those heated races that lead to a bad case of pennant fever. With less than two weeks remaining in the season, the playoff picture is all but set in stone. In the American League, Baltimore owns the East, Cleveland looks to have the Central wrapped up, Seattle should win the West barring a major collapse, and the Bronx Bombers have sewn up the wild card.

  • Update on the Metro Dodger Stadium Express
30 One Gateway Plaza 213-922.2000 Tel Los Angeles, CA 90012-2952 metro. net SYSTEM SAFETY, SECURITY AND OPERATIONS COMMITTEE MARCH 19, 2015 SUBJECT: METRO DODGER STADIUM EXPRESS UPDATE ACTION: RECEIVE AND FILE RECOMMENDATION Receive and file report for an update on the Metro Dodger Stadium Express. ISSUE Beginning this 2015 Dodger baseball season, the Metro Dodger Stadium Express will begin its fifth season of operation. This report will review a history of the service and provide an update on the planning and funding process required each year of operation . DISCUSSION For many years, Metro and its predecessor agencies operated game day service to Dodger Stadium. Originally Line 177 operated game day service, offering two trips each game prior to the first pitch. The service operated through Downtown LA making all local stops up to the entrance of Dodger Stadium. During the early 1980's, the line was renumbered Line 635 and continued to operate three trips before the first pitch. Due to declining patronage during a period of a budget shortfall, the line was cancelled at the end of the 1993 season with little opposition from Dodger fans. Fast forward to year 2010, and Union Station has become "the" transportation hub for Los Angeles. Patrons can reach Union Station by almost anywhere in Los Angeles County through the growing Metro Rail network, complimented by buses, Metrolink and Amtrak. Metro CEO Art Leahy began talks with Dodger management regarding the need to re-establish bus service to the stadium, with the goals of reducing traffic, carbon emissions, and providing a faster more pleasant alternative to driving.
