L’adaptation de ce système aux bateaux à moteur permet de réaliser des économies d’énergie et de réduire les émissions de gaz à effet de serre du transport maritime, qui traite 90 % du commerce international. Sur un plan plus personnel, Marc Van Peteghem a également créé l’ONG Watever pour soutenir la construction navale au Bangladesh, puis cofondé en 2013 The Sustainable Design School, qui place l’homme au centre de solutions innovantes pour un développement durable.
