July 10th - Participated in the Anti Ragging Rally in coordination with Police Department ​ Ooty. Nilgiris district Superintendent of Police Mr. Nizamuddin inaugurated the awareness rally. DSPs Ms. Anita and Mr. Rangaswamy were the other officials. ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ Students of different colleges viz. Government Arts College Ooty, Emerald Heights College Ooty, CSI Engineering College, Ketti participated in the Awareness rally programme. The rally started from Ooty bus stand and went through ATC bus stand and reached HADP ground. ​ ​ ​ ​ 2. August 08th Participated in the Disaster Management –A Holistic Perspective programme ​ at JSS College of Pharmacy Auditorium. Scientists & Engineering wing of RERF, Brahma Kumaris-Mount Abu, Sri Abu Babaji Charitable Trust-Ooty, Indian Red Cross Society were the other participants. This one day programme kindled the student volunteers the way of reacting during the land slide and natural calamities, Since Nilgiris is more prone to natural calamities. ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ 3. August 17th –Celebrated Sadhbavana Diwas on the eve of birth anniversary of Former ​ Prime Minister Sri Rajiv Gandhi. Mr. Rahmath from Johan Foundation conducted Personality development for the Fresh NSS Volunteers. The programme started at 10.am and went on till 01pm, since the programme was one to one interaction volunteers enthusiastically participated. ​ ​ st 4. December 01 ,​ Participated in the World Aids day awareness rally in collaboration with ​ Tamil Nadu State Aids Control Society (TANSACS) Ooty. Rally stated from Municipal bus stand and ended at Shanthi Vijay School at ATC bus stop. About 70 NSS Volunteers participated in the rally. Placards with slogans were displayed and carried by the Volunteers. Small function was arranged at Shanthi Vijay School ground and Certificate of Appreciation was issued to NSS Unit JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty. ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ th th 5. December 08 &​ 09 ,​ Participated in the World Peace day Conference at Preethi Palace ​ ​ hotel. Speeches delivered on topics Energy Conservation Bio gas usage, Yoga and Meditation, Hydro power and Nature. NSS Volunteers actively participated. ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ 6. January 25th 2013 Participated in the Voters day programme conducted by Collectorate, ​ Ooty at HADP ground. On the eve of 'National Voters' Day' Volunteers were provided with a badge with its logo and the slogan "Proud to be a voter - Ready to vote". During the programme the collector stressed on the Lowering voting age from 21 years to 18 years so as to provide the unrepresented youth of the country an opportunity to give vent to their feelings and help them become a part of the political process. ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ NSS Special camp Activities ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ This year NSS Unit of JSSCP Ooty had adopted Thengumorahada –Nilgiris district and conducted special camp for the year 2012-13. The programme started on February 11th ​ 2013 and ended on 16th February 2013. 24 Male and 25 Female NSS volunteers along ​ with one NSS Programme Officer and one supporting staff comprised the team. Volunteers actively involved in the cleaning the foot path and repairing the brick wall of Thengumorahada primary school. Volunteers enthusiastically mingled with the village peoples and performed a dance programme at the village. Visited Hallimoyar village which is also a part of Thengumorahada and plantation of tree supplied by the Forest department (north) was also part of the camp. Volunteers were taken for a small trekking in the forest area by the forest department stressing the importance of preserving the forest and wild animals. ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ 2013-14: NSS Activities: ​ ​ 1) 18-04-2013 Participated in the National Fire safety week in coordination with Club Mahindra ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ Ootacamund and Fire service department Ootacamund at Hotel Club Mahindra, Ootacamund. 50 NSS Volunteers and 100 public from in and around Ootacamund participated in the event. Live demo on fire safety, precaution and first aid were presented by fire service department. Student volunteers and public actively participated in the event. (Attached action Photo graphs) ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ 2) 11-05-2013 Conducted Rally on Promoting Traditional Millets Cultivation ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ 50 NSS Volunteers participated in the event. The rally started from Rose Garden and went through Charring cross and reached the college. Placards with slogans relation to traditional plants and crops were carried by the volunteers to create awareness among the public. (Attached action photographs) ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ 3) 25-09-2013 World Pharmacist Day Rally ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ Participated in the World Pharmacist Day Rally. NSS Volunteers actively participated in the event. The Rally started from Municipal bus stand at 10 AM and went through market, commercial road and reached Shanthi Vijay Hr. Secondary School. Street play and slogans pertaining to Pharmacy and Pharmacist were the events in the rally. ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ 4) 14-11-2013: World diabetes day was observed jointly with Government Head Quarters Hospital Ooty. A free diabetic diagnostic camp was organized at the Collectorate, Ooty. More than 250 general public got benefited from it. Out of which 40% were diabetic and 25% were hypertensive. 5) 25-11-2013: An Osteoporosis Screening and Awareness Camp was organized by NSS Unit jointly with Rotary Club of Ooty Town at Meekeri Village on 25.11.13.The Camp was organised with support of a team of Doctors from Government Head Quarters Hospital, Ooty and NSS Volunteers of JSS College of Pharmacy Ooty. ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ 6) NSS Special Camp: ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ Special camp was conducted at Anaikkatty village 19-02-2014 to 25-02-2014. 50 NSS ​ ​ volunteers (both male and female) and four supporting staffs participated in the programme. You are requested to abide by the following rules for use of facilities at RAC, Ooty. 1. Please see the RAC notice board and our web page for the academic program (http://ncra.tifr.res.in/~rpl/pos.html) 2. Students may make use of the RAC Library only during regular working hours. The library key will NOT be issued to a visiting student. Please introduce yourself to the Library-In-Charge (Mrs. M. Karpagam ) and enter your name in the visitor’s register. 3. Students are not allowed to borrow any books from the library. Students will be responsible for safe keeping of the books. The books must NOT be taken out of the building to your rooms. 4. Limited photocopy facility will be available on the guide’s recommendation. For any help, please contact Mrs. M. Karpagam, Library-In-Charge 5. Students using any equipment in the Observatory for their project work must do so with the guide’s approval. 6. Computer facilities at RAC are to be used only for the work related to the project.
