Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty firmament! Praise him with sound; praise him with lute and harp! Praise him with and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! Praise him with clanging cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals! Let everything that breathes praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! (Psalm 150:1-6)

Dear Friends,

Trinity has been celebrating our 125th Anniversary (our quasquicentennial anniversary) in some really wonderful ways so far this year.

Under the leadership of our Senior Warden, Bob Moore, we experienced a truly wonderful dinner and dance celebrating the 1920’s. Deborah Moore and her kitchen helpers (especially Linda Bond, Emily Malmevik, Finian Baird and Tiernan Baird) prepared and served up a tremendous meal. For the auction portion of the event, our Junior Warden, Melody Oxley and Vestry member Carol Bartley provided organization and leadership. Every member of the Vestry demonstrated a genuine commitment to serving our parish with generosity and creativity to make the event a successful fundraiser for us, bringing in just under $10,000.

On Trinity Sunday, we enjoyed a wonderful brunch prepared by Charlene Rawson and her friend, with lovely decorations prepared by Aileen Barker and Dianne McCormack. Members of Historic Everett joined us for celebrations that day, including a really wonderful slide presentation by Jack O’Donnell. So many members of our music program contributed their talents to our combine morning service that day that one visitor remarked to me, “I think that I may need to change churches!”

In the afternoon of Trinity Sunday, David Spring conducted our choirs and a chamber orchestra in a special anniversary concert, in which we were joined by six area faith leaders who contributed beautiful prayers for peace from their spiritual traditions. The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace drew praises from all who attended, and I hope that you will consider purchasing a CD that has been created of our choir’s performance of it. David Spring has worked hard in preparing the CD, and many more have given selflessly of their time and talents in the recording of it so that all of us may have the opportunity of remembering something of this very special anniversary concert.

The following weekend, on June 17th, Trinity hosted historian and living history performer, Kandie Carle, who enchanted everyone with her knowledge of the Golden Era of the Victorian Age and her genuinely entertaining style. The Afternoon Family Tea was truly outstanding, under the leadership of Nancy Smith and so very many who hosted at tables, prepared savories and sweets, provided personal tea services and dressed for the occasion. If you haven’t seen the decorations and banner created by Judy Ballantyne that are still in Roger’s Hall, you should – they are really lovely.

As we turn into the days of summer, we celebrate the graduation from high school of Vestry member, Jeffrey Wheeler, who will remain in the area to attend college (and I am very glad to not lose him from our Vestry). In a few short days, Trinity’s celebrations will continue as we participate in the City of Everett’s July 4th Parade on Tuesday (July 4, 2017). If you can participate in our parade entry, I hope you will contact David Spring – we need singers and non-singers willing to represent the eras of our church history through music, creativity, and fancy dress. It should be a really fun time, and participants of all ages are welcome and appreciated!

On July 30th, Trinity will spend an evening at the Aquasox game, and tickets for that event will go on sale at church this month. In November, we will be hosting a USO show event, partnering with community friends who recognize that Trinity’s sanctuary is a WWI Victory Memorial. Later in November, we plan to hold a parish Thanksgiving Dinner (prior to the holiday of Thanksgiving) and to make available special commemorative china plates and Christmas ornaments of our 125th year. The year will conclude with another special Messiah Sing Along.

I am deeply and profoundly grateful for all the efforts that so many people have made and continue to make in creating special and meaningful occasions for all of us to enjoy throughout the year. It takes love to make a community, and I am seeing that love in everything people are doing and in giving of themselves with abundance and generosity. The events we have had have been tremendous, and I hope that if you have not yet had the opportunity to attend any of them that you will be able to join us in some celebration yet to come this year.

If our legacy as a church teaches us anything, it shows us how love keeps community alive and thriving from generation to generation. I am so grateful for your witness.

In Christ’s Peace, Pastor Rachel+

Stewardship Time and Talent “Do all such works as thou has prepared for us to walk in” is a portion of the post communion prayer that we say each Sunday. It is an important line for me because I am constantly asking what I have been prepared for and I hope that whatever I choose to do in life that I have been somehow prepared for the challenge. During my younger years I was a construction laborer and that was very hard work and I often wondered what I possibly could be being prepared for living this very hard life and being introduced to some very hard and demanding people. I know that today it is a very big part of who I am and how I interact with others. I slowly moved up in the company, mostly because I couldn’t physically do the hard work anymore, and was introduced to many different job challenges ending in the construction safety profession. My earlier “training” made me aware of construction methods that a college trained safety professional would never be able to learn in school and it was very difficult for the field workforce to pull anything over my eyes. I had been very well prepared for my future roll and had no trouble being a very effective safety professional helping to influence construction safety both in the Seattle area and across the USA. My executive experience has allowed me to offer my time/talent as your Senior Warden. As I was reading the story of David in the Book of Samuel I realized that Goliath didn’t have a chance. The fight between David and Goliath was not even fair. With one shot from his sling David brought Goliath down. David knew he could do this. While the Israeli army withered in fear David volunteered to take on this huge adversary. Where did this courage come from? David had been “trained” and prepared for this fight for years by watching over his families sheep. He guarded the sheep from lions and bears and had beaten both off with his sling to defend the herd. David explains this to the king so that he might be convinced to let David fight Goliath. David offered his “talent” to the congregation so to speak. He was just a shepherd boy with one excellent skill that in this time of need he offered to the assembly of Israel. The king accepted David’s offer but thought it best that he fight in traditional armor and so put David in a full dress of armor. Sometimes our gift of talent to the congregation has to be accepted as is. The armor made David too restricted and he could not use his sling effectively. So he refused the armor. What good works have you been prepared to walk in? Trinity needs all assortments of time and talent to operate at a high level and have successful programs and do the work of God well. Please consider this question well as Trinity prepares to offer opportunities to contribute and influence.

In your service, Bob What a month June was! Planning for our125th anniversary came to fruition in a great celebration of the past and the future. Anniversaries are about dreaming, hoping for the future, what’s gone on, and what helped them get there. We are celebrating those who gave so much to create a community and space, and increasing awareness of what we can do in similar ways for those who will follow us.

KUDOS to our CHOIRS: Our choir’s anniversary concert on Trinity Sunday was our way to reflect on the past, celebrating the present, and praying for the future. It was a busy, gratifying experience preparing the concert, and especially busy recording parts of it for our CD release, “O Praise ye the Lord: Choral Treasures of the Ages.” But it was also an interfaith prayer service for world peace—especially keeping in mind that our church building was consecrated and stands today as a World War I Memorial, the “Great War” – thought to be the war to end all wars. Highlighting the concert’s 2nd half were excerpts from “The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace.” This was a dramatic and taxing piece, one which we hope to repeat. Kudos to our singers --young and old—and bell ringers, who worked so hard to present this for our people and the greater community –on a rather long day!

Every time we work side by side on events in our community, we get stronger together in every way imaginable. As Pastor Rachel has asked, let’s keep imagining what each of us can do to help to raise Trinity’s visibility in our community, helping to spread the Good News!

Some fun July events that we can use support for (in all kinds of ways!):

July 4 parade - please see Pastor Rachel’s call for young and old to march with choir members in the Everett parade, where we’ll recreate a bit of all the 125 years of our time in Everett. It will be easy and fun. Rehearsal & planning will take place Thursday June 29 (7:00pm) and Sunday July 2 (11:30am.) Songs will be super familiar, a mix of some old hymns and some fun patriotic songs such as “Grand old flag.”

July 23 “Snohomo” Pride festival: Everett is having its first local Gay Pride event, and our choir has been invited to show the community that Trinity is a welcoming place for all who seek a closer walk with God. We’ll do some of our more lively favorites… come cheers us on at American Legion Park. More info to come.

July 30 – Trinity Day at Everett AquaSox… once again our choir will sing the National Anthem, and Pastor Rachel may show her fast pitch arm once again! Tickets will be on sale in the narthex after church for the next several weeks. This is a really fun way to gather together, let folks know we are here, and even raise a little funds for the church.

Off to Sewanee… For church music ministers, summer is an exciting time of recharging the batteries and gaining new insight into our programs. Once again, I will attend the Episcopal Church Music Conference in Sewanee, TN. Each day includes Eucharist, and is filled from morning to evening with classes, rehearsals, and workshops, various concerts, more rehearsals, and of course, fellowship. It is an opportunity to share new ideas and gain a broader understanding of the constant movement of the Holy Spirit in the church, to sharpen skills in , composing/arranging, and playing, and to discover new music to enhance our worship in months to come. I am extremely grateful for YOUR support that makes this possible.

Blessings to you all!

“The Water of Life” Coming in August! Vacation School August 6-11 with Trinity Lutheran Stay tuned for more information!

The shawl ministry has been busy this year. We have knit, crocheted, and blessed 134 prayer shawl already this year. We also have blessed 95 pocket shawls and sent 115 prayer shawls to hospice. We meet on the first Saturday every month at 10 AM-11 AM in the guild room. Our next meeting is July 1st. We hope new knitters and crochet people will join us in this rewarding ministry. All are welcome. The shawls are free to everyone. Please request a shawl for anyone suffering or needing the loving comfort of a shawl. I met a woman at the beauty parlor and shared with her about our shawls and even though she did not attend our church, she asked if she could get a shawl for her nephew fighting leukemia. "Of course ." I said. You never know where a shawl will be needed. Hope to see you all at our next meeting.

Starting July 13, we will change our meeting time to Thursdays at 2pm. in Merrick Hall.

We are excited to include Annie. She will introduce us to chair yoga, a practice for anyone with hip, knee, wrist or other concerns

All levels of practice are invited. Wear clothing that you can move in. Bring a mat or any props that you need.

Suggested donation for church space is $5.00.

We will not be meeting during the week of July 4th.

Hope you will join us this summer!

The Everett Gospel Mission has been caring for people experiencing homelessness for 55 years. On any given night, up to 40 children will fall asleep in their shelter, feeling safe and warm. It takes a lot of time, money and supplies to care for so many families. Right now, diapers, wipes and other baby supplies are in great demand. The women’s shelter especially needs diapers in sizes 3, 4, 5 and 6, plus pull-ups. If you’d like to help supply this need, please bring these items to the Trinity narthex and deposit them in the box marked Everett Gospel Mission Diaper Drive located in Trinity’s entry hall (the narthex). By donating something as seemingly basic as diapers, you will be directly benefitting homeless children and families in our area! If you have any questions, please call Mary Heileson at 425-349-4849, or ask Ron Chappell or Melody Oxley.
