He was very concerned about the litter, weeds, overhanging shrubs onto 1 public footpaths/pavements and that small seating areas need clearing. Mr W appreciated what has been done and hoped that street cleaning etc would be done before the council introduce floral displays. The Clerk was asked to confirm frequency of weed spraying by Bridgend CBC and advertise for volunteers to take on maintenance of their own areas. The Clerk was also requested to investigate if any contractors may be interested grounds maintenance works. Mr GR of Blackmill informed members that he is taking the lead on installations of defibrillators throughout the OVCC area and is now a First Responder.

We are the first country in the world to have undertaken a country-wide urban canopy cover survey. The resulting evidence base set out in this supplementary county specific study for Bridgend County Borough will help all of us - from community tree interest groups to urban planners and decision-makers in local Emyr Roberts Diane McCrea authorities and our national government - to understand what we need to do to safeguard this powerful and versatile natural asset. Trees are an essential component of our urban ecosystems, delivering a range of services to help sustain life, promote well-being, and support economic benefits. They make our towns and cities more attractive to live in - encouraging inward investment, improving the energy efficiency of buildings – as well as removing air borne pollutants and connecting people with nature.     HABITATS REGULATION ASSESSMENT OF THE VALE OF GLAMORGAN LOCAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN DRAFT PREFERRED STRATEGY SCREENING REPORT December 2007 Non-technical summary This document is the Stage 1 Screening Report for the Vale of Glamorgan Local Development Plan 2011 – 2026 (LDP). It considers whether the LDP either alone or in combination with other plans and projects is likely to have a significant effect on a European site. This report considers the emerging Vale of Glamorgan Draft Preferred Strategy. A separate regional study is currently being progressed by the South East Wales Strategic Planning Group, which will consider the cumulative in- combination effects of other LDPs currently being progressed. European sites are Special Protection Areas (SPA) classified under the EC Birds Directive 1979, candidate Special Areas of Conservation (cSAC) and Special Areas of Conservation (SAC) designated under the Habitats Directive 1992. As a matter of policy the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) expects public authorities to treat all Ramsar sites, and potential SPAs (pSPA), in Wales as if they are European sites for the purpose of considering development proposals that may affect them. Draft guidance on undertaking Habitats Regulations Assessment in Wales has been prepared by the Welsh Assembly Government and David Tyldesley and Associates (October 2006) as an Annex to Technical Advice Note 5 Nature Conservation and Planning (2006). This guidance has been considered in the preparation of this report. The Dunraven SAC is located within the Vale of Glamorgan and its eastern boundary to the north of Lavernock Point is shared with the south western extremity of the Severn Estuary SPA/cSAC/RAMSAR and immediately to the west of the Vale boundary is the Kenfig SAC in the County Borough of Bridgend.

    Bridgend County Borough Profile – 2018 Introduction Bridgend County Borough is located in the heart of South Wales, centered between the principality’s two main cities; Cardiff to the east and Swansea to the west. The county borough is bordered by Neath Port Talbot to the west and north, Rhondda Cynon Taff also to the north and north east, and by the Vale of Glamorgan to the east. It has an area of about 25,500 hectares and has a population of 143,400 (ONS Population estimate). Extending approximately 20km from east to west, the area encompasses the Ogmore, Garw and Llynfi valleys to the north, and bordering the Bristol Channel to the south. The main commercial centres are Bridgend and Maesteg and the seaside resort of Porthcawl. Bridgend is the largest of these towns and is the administrative centre for the area. The county borough benefits from excellent transportation infrastructure with the M4 motorway crossing the southern part of the county borough in an east-west alignment, providing speedy access to Cardiff, Swansea and the rest of South Wales and beyond. There are three motorway junctions (35 – 37) within the county borough. Additionally, an inter-city high speed rail service linking the area with the whole of the national rail network provides fast and efficient rail transport whilst Cardiff Airport is only 15 miles away. Bridgend is also well connected to the sea ports, with Barry, Cardiff, Port Talbot and Swansea within 30 minutes drive-time.     The Search for San Ffraid ‘A thesis submitted to the University of Wales Trinity Saint David in the fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts’ 2012 Jeanne Mehan 1 Abstract The Welsh traditions related to San Ffraid, called in Ireland and Scotland St Brigid (also called Bride, Ffraid, Bhríde, Bridget, and Birgitta) have not previously been documented. This Irish saint is said to have traveled to Wales, but the Welsh evidence comprises a single fifteenth-century Welsh poem by Iorwerth Fynglwyd; numerous geographical dedications, including nearly two dozen churches; and references in the arts, literature, and histories. This dissertation for the first time gathers together in one place the Welsh traditions related to San Ffraid, integrating the separate pieces to reveal a more focused image of a saint of obvious importance in Wales.
