O’Brien Flexes Six-Pack... Trainer Aidan O’Brien, who registered the last of his three successes with (Ire) (Sadler’s Wells) in 2006, is six-handed in this quest for a fourth renewal. In addition to Maybe, he also saddles Kissed (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), Twirl (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), Betterbetterbetter (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), Devotion (Ire) ( {Ire}), and Was (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}). Kissed, who is a 3/4-sister to last year’s G1 Derby hero (Ire) ( {Ire}), will run in the Derrick Smith colors only if the ground is deemed suitable. She stepped up from an eye-catching maiden score, which earned a J “TDN Rising Star” J tag, at Navan in October, and justified that accolade when making a hugely impressive seasonal return in April’s Listed S. back at the Co. Meath track last time. Betterbetterbetter loomed large and looked likely to bag last month’s Listed Cheshire Oaks, but was collared late to finish second at the Roodeye circuit. Oaks cont. The Fugue Bids for Musidora Repetition... Lady Lloyd-Webber’s The Fugue (GB) (Dansili {GB}) was pitched in at the deep end following an October maiden score at Newmarket, and emerged with great credit by finishing fourth in the G1 1000 Guineas back at the Rowley Mile on seasonal debut. She flourished from there and toyed with Twirl in the G3 Musidora S. before unleashing a decisive kick, and continues on the right The Fugue Racing Post/Cranham path according to Buick. “I’m going into the race with a lot of confidence because The Fugue has every box ticked,” Buick blogged. “From the first time I sat on her I realised she had class, it was just a matter of how much. The 1000 Guineas was just her second run and she had a bad trip that day, getting struck into early on. It was a tribute to the Clarehaven team that she came back so well at York. The Guineas had brought her on, but the step up to 10 furlongs in the Musidora played to her strengths, and she quickened to win like a class filly. I wanted to make sure she had the easiest time possible and that the race would bring her further forward for the Oaks, and that’s certainly the case. I don’t have any serious concerns for the trip and there’s no reason to think she won’t stay the distance. She’s a very agile filly so she should handle the track as well as anything else in the field.”

Watering Policy Continues... With showers forecast in the area of Epsom in midweek, clerk of the course Andrew Cooper nonetheless maintained a low-key policy of minimal watering, and revealed the track’s official going remained as "good, good-to-firm in places" on the eve of Epsom’s first Classic. “We started watering on Tuesday of last week and have not been putting big volumes on, just keeping the ground at or near where it was,” explained Cooper. “The [forecast] rain never came Wednesday, though there were showers in the area, but we weren’t banking or depending on showers anyway. The forecast is mainly dry. In terms of watering, it is a question of fine tuning. We put three millimeters of water on the home straight Thursday afternoon. The ground remains good, good to firm in places. It is predominantly good ground, certainly from the Oaks start down to the beginning of the straight. It is quicker in places in the home straight and in some areas of the climb up the back. It's nice racing ground.”
