The end of the Summer season should not be met with sorrowful re- laizations that school is in full swing again, but it should be greeted with the anticipation of everything that the Autumnal season brings to the table. These are the perfect days for hayrides, cornmazes, pumpkin carving, playing in the leaves, breathing in the crisp fall air, or maybe just eating a crisp apple pie. The list of Fall activities is as ample as the amount of leaves falling from trees. So make like a leaf and fall into ev- erything the season has to offer!

Hayrides are the perfect activity for chilly autumn nights. Rides can range from relaxed atmospheres to haunted themes intended to make the participants’ hearts race. Every year Sportsman’s hosts hay- rides that incorporate skits and activities. Fall Festivities Summer isn’t the only season with festivals. There are festivities for wood carving, apple picking, and pumpkin picking. There are also haunted houses and corn mazes. Visit Snyder’s Farm to enjoy a local corn maze. One must also visit the Sullivan County Fall Festival to see their annual one hour wood carv- ing contest. At the end of the contest the public even has the opportunity to purchase the creations at the auction that is held directly afterwards. page 7 Fall into everything the season has to offer By Kendra Parke and Mackenzie Rodrigues Pumpkin Carving: The Steps to Carving Your Very Own Festive Pumpkin STEP 1: Find your perfect pumpkin at a pumpkin patch near you.

PEOPLE The Arrowhead page 12 October 2014 Prowling for phones Page and Photos by Sarah Musheno It is common to see the students of MHS hide their phones when Assistant Principal Mr. Chris King walks past them to avoid having their phones taken by him. But why does Mr. King take the student’s phones? “It started out with no electronic devices whatsoever,” said King. “But as technology grew, our policy changed because phones were being used for cheating.” Cheating became prominent when phones became popular; therefore the rule was a must. It may seem hard for students to believe, but King said he doesn’t enjoy taking student’s phones. He says he is “disappointed, if anything, that students choose not to follow a sim- ple rule.” He also admitted it “Doesn’t bother him at all” when he sees people with their phones out. He is simply enforcing the rules.

Assistant Principal Mr. Chris King poses behind phones he siezed from students who were using them during school Repeat offenders hours. On average, King gathers about 15 phones per week.
