President EEAA JJuly-Sepuly-Sep 22010.indd010.indd 3 77/24/10/24/10 1:281:28 PPMM 4 News July - September 2010 • The New Eurasian AGM report Some 80 members attended the EA Annual Susan de Silva explains the new resolutions to members at the AGM General Meeting 2010 on 30 April to elect the members of the new management committee and to vote on 19 new resolutions proposed for the rules of the EA. They included the appointment of two vice presidents instead of one, the removal of lifetime terms for trustees, the increase in the number of trustees and the provision of more than one patron. All the resolutions were passed with the exception of Resolution 2.7.17 (“to simplify the eligibility criteria for appointment as Patron(s)”). While most members accepted the allowance of more than one patron, many voiced concern from the floor that the amendment allowed for a non-Eurasian patron. The resolution went to a vote via a show of hands, with 43 in favour of passing the new amendment and 38 against. As this represented only 53 per cent of the members present, short of the two-thirds necessary to pass the motion, Resolution 2.7.17 was not adopted. The new management committee was sworn in, outgoing president Edward D’Silva was thanked for his service to the association, and new EA President William Jansen delivered Left to right: Lynn Desker, Geoffrey his acceptance speech. • Kreativiti, Invensyen Dan Inovasi: Suatu Cadangan Matapelajaran Pada Peringkat Sekolah Menengah
KREATIVITI, INVENSYEN DAN INOVASI: SUATU CADANGAN MATAPELAJARAN PADA PERINGKAT SEKOLAH MENENGAH Mohd. Azhar Abd. Hamid Sanitah Mohd.

  • Sacking for Councillors Who Hamper Tax Collection
21 DEC 2002 Sabah-Councillors SACKING FOR COUNCILLORS WHO HAMPER TAX COLLECTION KOTA KINABALU, Dec 21 (Bernama) -- Local councillors in Sabah who hamper tax collection by the local authorities have been told to buck up or face the sack. State Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Tun Said said today that the ministry would be monitoring all councillors, half of whom are politicians, to ensure that they performed up to expectation. "Politicians who sit on the council who do not cooperate in the tax collection effort will be sacked or have their contract not renewed," he said when contacted here. Salleh was asked to comment on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad's criticism of some local authorities for being lax in tax collection. Dr Mahathir, who is also the finance minister, had said that given that many politicians served on the boards of local governments, efficient tax collection might make them unpopular. Asked on the tax collection performance of local authorities in Sabah, Salleh said that it was improving but a lot more still needed to be done to collect what was due to the government. On whether there were cases of politicians, who sit on the boards of local governments, not cooperating in tax collection efforts, he said: "There had been such problem in certain local authorities but the number is small...things are improving now." He said several measures had been introduced to facilitate tax collection. They included the setting up of more payment counters and the appointment of professional agents to collect taxes on behalf of the local authorities.
