David Sosebee worked a scoreless 11th to secure the extra inning victory, Trenton's eighth in 11 games that Trenton 63 49 2.0 W1 have gone longer than the allotted amount. Binghamton 53 60 12.5 W1 Hartford 52 59 12.5 L1 The Yard Goats grabbed the first two runs in the game against Thunder starter Alexander Vargas in the fourth. With men on the corners and Reading 52 60 13.0 W2 one out, Brian Mundell lifted a sacrifice fly to right to score Drew Weeks. Later in the frame, Ryan Metzler doubled in Omar Carrizales to take a 2-0 lead. Portland 46 65 18.5 W1 Vargas was lifted following Mezler's double and James Reeves entered to keep it a 2-0 game. Reeves all seven batters he faced while the West Division W L GB Streak Thunder offense mounted a rally to tie the game. Akron 66 47 -- L1 Altoona 59 50 5.0 W1 Mandy Alvarez smacked a solo home run in the sixth, his 11th of the year, and Rashad Crawford tied the game in the seventh with a single Harrisburg 57 54 8.0 L1 scoring Jhalan Jackson. The rally ruined a strong start from Hartford's Ryan Castellani who went a season-high seven innings but took a no- decision. The Thunder bullpen turned in a brilliant day after Vargas as Reeves, Matt Wivinis and Sosebee combined on 7.1 scoreless allowing Richmond 53 58 12.0 L1 just one hit and one walk with ten strikeouts. Erie 52 60 13.5 L1 Bowie 51 60 14.0 L2 Sunday was Alvarez's second multi-homerun game of the season and his career. He led the Thunder offense with three hits. • The Value of Major League Baseball Players an Empirical Analysis of the Baseball Labor Market
HAVERFORD COLLEGE The Value of Major League Baseball Players An Empirical Analysis of the Baseball Labor Market Chris Maurice 4/29/2010 The goal of this thesis was to test the efficiency of the baseball labor market. To analyze the market, I found models to estimate the marginal revenue products of Major League Baseball players. I then compared the estimated marginal revenue products to the actual terms of players’ contracts in the 2009 season. Through this analysis, I was able to find the most over and undervalued players in the 2009 Major League Baseball season. I also was able to identify certain skills that were over or undervalued by the labor market. I noticed considerable differences in market strategy between teams with high payrolls and teams with low payrolls. I was also able to find that players who played above average defense were consistently undervalued. Table of Contents I.
