The right-hander struck out six and allowed just three hits in his five innings pitched. Trenton 40 29 1.0 W1 Binghamton 34 35 7.5 L7 Trenton took the lead permanently in the bottom of the second off Scott Copeland. Gosuke Katoh led off the inning with a double, and after a Hartford 33 36 8.5 L1 Mandy Alvarez walk, a groundout placed runners on second and third. Copeland proceeded to uncork two wild pitches with Jhalan Jackson at Reading 29 40 12.5 W3 the plate, the first one plating Katoh as the tying run and the second allowing Alvarez to score the go-ahead run. Portland 26 43 15.5 L2 Devyn Bolasky hit an RBI-triple in the fourth, and Trenton rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth, sending eight men to the plate and knocking Copeland from the game with the score 6-1. The right-hander surrendered six runs on 10 hits, both matching season-highs. West Division W L GB Streak Akron 40 30 -- W1 In the top of the seventh, Binghamton got a two-run double from Tim Tebow, who was thrown out at third attempting to stretch his hit to a Altoona 34 29 2.0 L1 triple. The Tebow hit trimmed the Thunder lead to 6-3, but Abiatal Avelino homered in the bottom half, and Stephen Tarpley held the Rumble Harrisburg 36 32 3.0 L1 Ponies scoreless over the final two innings. Richmond 34 32 3.5 L1 The win ended a three-game losing streak for the Thunder, and was the team’s third victory in four matchups against Binghamton this season. Erie 31 38 8.5 L2 Avelino led the winning effort with three hits, while Bolasky’s two RBI and Mandy Alvarez’ three runs scored led the team. • New York Yankees Shortstop Gleyber Torres Wins AFL MVP
New York Yankees shortstop Gleyber Torres wins AFL MVP Author : Robert D. Cobb New York Yankees' top prospect, shortstop Gleyber Torres, has won the Arizona Fall League MVP award. Torres, who was the headliner in the package from the Cubs that sent Aroldis Chapman to Chicago, is just 19-years-old. He is the youngest player to win the Joe Black MVP Award, in fact, no one under the age of 21 has ever put together a better season in the 32 game league. [embedit snippet="ryne-ads"] The Arizona Fall League is an off-season, 32 game league that plays from mid-October to mid-November. It was founded in 1992 and has attracted many of the top prospects in minor league systems all around the league. Torres, along with fellow Yankee prospects Greg Bird, Miguel Andujar, Dillon Tate, J.P. Feyereisen, Tyler Wade, Brody Koerner and James Kaprielian, played for the Scottsdale Scorpions. Torres led the AFL in average at .403, OBP at .513, and OPS at 1.158. He also earned the batting title, by an astounding 50 points over the next closest player. He added 25 hits, three homers, four doubles, 14 walks, and four stolen bases in 18 games, putting all of his tools on display. His performance earned him two AFL Player of the Week awards en route to being named MVP. He wasn't only the league's best hitter, but he also provided a flair for the dramatic. On October 15th he delivered a walk-off hit with the bases loaded for the Scorpions, joining teammate Tim Tebow with the only walk-off hits of the year.

Cincinnati Reds Press Clippings August 2, 2018 THIS DAY IN REDS HISTORY 1939-The Reds announce plans to add 3,100 seats to Crosley Field, by adding a second deck to the pavilions down the left and right field lines MLB.COM Poor defense, baserunning sink Reds in finale Four-run rally in 7th cut short after Casali thrown out at home plate By Mark Sheldon MLB.com @m_sheldon Aug. 1st, 2018 DETROIT -- Since he became Reds interim manager in April, Jim Riggleman has made attention to detail a big part of his daily message to the players. At times throughout the season, Riggleman has organized drills that focus on fundamentals from baserunning, to cutoff throws, covering bases and more. So it wasn't hard to see the disappointment Riggleman felt following a 7-4 Reds loss to the Tigers that completed Detroit's two- game series sweep. Numerous mistakes befuddled Cincinnati defensively and on the bases at Comerica Park. "When you play like that, you're not supposed to win," Riggleman said. "It's not bad effort, it's bad performance. We just have to somehow find a way to clean it up. It was very sloppy." Some of the mistakes included: • Left fielder Phillip Ervin twice missed the cutoff man on hits and it cost the Reds two runs. • A relay throw from shortstop Jose Peraza one-hopped over catcher Curt Casali's head for another run. • Casali ran into a double play during a four-run rally in the seventh inning. "That's the difference between a good club and a really good club," Casali said.
