Katsuyuki Nakasuga Defends Title with 9Th All Japan JSB1000 Championship Win Katsuyuki Nakasuga Defends Title with 9th All Japan JSB1000 Championship Win November 5, 2019—The final round of the All Japan Road Race Championship was held at Suzuka Circuit in Mie Prefecture on November 3, 2019 as the 51st Motorcycle Federation of Japan Grand Prix (MFJGP). In the premier JSB1000 class, the Yamaha Factory Racing Team’s Katsuyuki Nakasuga rode his YZF-R1 to victory in Race 1 and finished 2nd in Race 2 to seal a second consecutive title win and bring his career total up to nine. The JSB1000 class kicked off its season on April 6 and 7 at Twin Ring Motegi, and Nakasuga won both races for a great start to his 2019 campaign. However, the next round at Suzuka Circuit was not as positive. Though Nakasuga finished 2nd in Race 2, he crashed out of Race 1 while Honda’s Takumi Takahashi took the win, creating a sizable gap in the points. Then at Round 3 in Sportsland Sugo, points leader Takahashi won both races while Nakasuga finished 2nd in both, further widening the gap between the two to 25 points. However, Nakasuga fought back, taking a win at Round 5 at Twin Ring Motegi held shortly after the Suzuka 8 Hours, marking his first win since his double at the season opener. With the sporadic weather that hit Round 6 at Okayama International Circuit, Nakasuga struggled to find the right setup for the conditions and finished 3rd, but then won both races at the following round at the Autopolis, taking his 50th career JSB1000 win in Race 1 in the process. With Nakasuga’s 211 points to Takahashi’s 222, he had managed to narrow the gap to just 11 points heading into the final round of the season. In Race 1, while Takahashi crashed and remounted to finish 16th, Nakasuga took his sixth win—the most of the season—and overtook the Honda rider in the points for the first time since the opening round, sitting 9 points now in the lead. In Race 2, Takahashi ran uncontested at the front to win the race as Nakasuga fought a fierce battle against his teammate, Kohta Nozane. Making a last lap pass on Nozane, Nakasuga took 2nd at the line to clinch a back-to- back championship win and mark the ninth title of his career. Nozane stood on the podium for the 11th time—including one win—to finish a personal-best of 3rd overall for the 2019 season. YAMAHA MOTOR CO., LTD. But the team kept improving the bike’s potential every race, and I felt more and more that I didn’t want to let things end that way. The fact that our rivals were stronger meant that we had to get stronger too. But I still thought overcoming an 11-point gap would be really hard, so for the last round my goal was actually to take the most wins of the season, but then Takahashi crashed in Race 1. I’ve won many titles in my career, but the more titles you win, the greater the weight of the expectations you shoulder, and I was really feeling a lot of pressure in Race 2. But in the end, I was able to finish 2nd and win the title. I’m very happy to be able to tell all the sponsors and fans that supported me through the year that we won, and I’m so happy to see all the smiling faces of the team and everyone involved who got us here.     PR Document 2020 Japanese Super Formula Championship Series Media Information August 27 2020 1 Super Formula : Then and Now In the 1950s, the Fédération Internationale de I’Automobile (FIA) launched the Drivers’ Championship to find the world’s fastest formula car drivers the purest form of racing machine. That ethos was passed on to all FIA national member organizations.Top-level formula motor racing has been held in Japan in various forms since 1973, when Formula 2000 was first launched. The competition evolved into Formula Two in 1978 and then Formula 3000 in 1987. Japan Race Promotion, Inc. (JRP) was established in 1995 and continued carrying the competition torch in 1996 under the name of Formula Nippon. In 2013, the name of the competition was changed again to Japanese Championship Super Formula and a bold plan was implemented to upgrade the race cars and lift the profile of the competition with the clear aim of spreading the appeal of Super Formula from Japan to other parts of Asia. Another hope was to turn the series into a third great open-wheel racing competition to go along with Formula One and IndyCar. The competition’s name was changed again in 2016 to Japanese Super Formula Championship. In 2017, BS Fuji began broadcasting live Super Formula races, giving many motorsport fans the chance to watch championship races on free-to-air television. In the early days, formula racing in Japan was led by top drivers such as Kunimitsu Takahashi, Kazuyoshi Hoshino and Satoru Nakajima, who later competed on the global stage in Formula One.

As had been forecasted, the qualifying was held in the rain sequentially last round at Autopolis. As an exceptional case, at Sportsland SUGO whose track is long and narrow, top seven cars in each of A and B groups run at a time in QF2 just like QF1 to avoid traffic during attacks. In QF1, Makino in Grp A went on-track with new wet tires as soon as the course opened. He warmed up the tires lap by lap, and recorded the best time in the fifth measuring. He moved on to QF2 first. Fukuzumi in Grp B broke the top time every lap and made it through QF2 in first place in the group. In QF2, Makino in Grp A recorded the fastest time from the beginning as he did in QF1, however, he felt performance degradation of the rear tires during the attack lap. He finished in third for QF3. Just about QF2 for Grp B started, the rain got heavier. When Fukuzumi attacked carefully and became second, two cars went off-track and the red flag came out. It was restarted with 3 min remaining. Fukuzumi finished in second, however, since the car at the top was the one which caused the red flag condition and its time was deleted as penalty, Fukuzumi moved onto QF3 in first. In the following QF3, Makino, who felt lowering the grip force of the rear tires, changed to scrubbed wet tires.

    Press Release February 20, 2017 Calsonic Kansei Corporation Announcement on Calsonic Kansei's participation in the GT500 Class of the Autobacs Super GT 2017 Series Calsonic Kansei Corporation (President & CEO: Hiroshi Moriya; Headquarters: Kita-ku, Saitama-city) will continue its sponsorship of Hoshino Impul Co., Ltd. for the 2017 season and participate in the GT500 Class of the Autobacs Super GT 2017 series. Calsonic Kansei first commenced its motorsports sponsorship activities in 1982 and is now in its 36th year. Since the inception of Super GT in 1994*, Calsonic Kansei has been an ever-present sponsor, and the opening race of this year's series in Okayama in April will mark the company's 175th race. *Super GT was known as the "All Japan GT Championship" between 1994 and 2004, and changed its name to "Super GT" in 2005 Calsonic Kansei continues to research "race heat exchanger systems," which demonstrate outstanding performance even in unforgiving race environments, as well as "racecar air conditioning systems," which act to prevent heat-related illnesses for drivers. Such activities provide feedback and contribute significantly to the improved performance of products used in commercial vehicles. Led by team principal Kazuyoshi Hoshino, last year TEAM IMPUL won the Super GT Round 5 at the Fuji Speedway, and ranked at eighth place. This year, the team has a new driver pairing of Hironobu Yasuda, continuing for his fourth year, and new driver Jann Mardenborough, and has set its sights on becoming series champions.
