The delegation departed the Parliament Office, at 8.20 a.m. on Wednesday, 17th May, 2017, and arrived at the State House, Anna Regina, Region No. 2 Pomeroon-Supenaam at 2.50 p.m. Thursday, 18th May, 2017: 4. The delegation visited the Suddie Hospital in Region No. 2 and was received by Ms. Shelly Ambrose, Administrator, Mr. Rupert Hopkinson, Regional Executive Officer (REO), Dr. Khilauti Das, Medical Superintendent and other Officials of the hospital. 5. After reciprocal introduction, the Chairperson of the Committee, Dr. Vindhya Persaud, introduced the Members of the Committee and explained the origin of the Parliamentary Sectoral Committee on Social Services and its purpose. Dr. Persaud informed the officials that prior to this visit the Committee had completed four other visits which included: the New Amsterdam Hospital, Diamond Diagnostic Centre, Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation and Linden Hospital in keeping with the Committee' s mandate.

Its actions are supported by its 100 active volunteers and 35 employees between HQ and branches. Red Cross Red Crescent Movement partners actively involved in the operation: The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). The Regional Intervention Platform for the Americas and the Caribbean of the French Red Cross (PIRAC) does not have a presence in the country but has offered to support the operation if requested. Other partner organizations actively involved in the operation: Civil Defence Commission (CDC), The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), UN OCHA, HydroMET Guyana.     Diversified, Resilient, Low-carbon, People-centred VOLUME I POLICY RECOMMENDATIONS, FINANCIAL MECHANISM & IMPLEMENTATION An inclusive and prosperous Guyana that provides a good quality of life for all its citizens “ based on sound education and social protection, low-carbon resilient development, new economic opportunities, justice, and political empowerment. ” Executive Summary Background The Green State Development Strategy: Vision 2040 is Guyana’s twenty-year, national development policy that reflects the guiding vision and principles of the ‘green agenda’: “An inclusive and prosperous Guyana that provides a good quality of life for all its citizens based on sound education and social protection, low-carbon and resilient development, providing new economic opportunities, justice and political empowerment.” The central objective is development that provides a better quality of life for all Guyanese derived from the country’s natural wealth – its diversity of people and abundant natural resources (land, water, forests, mineral and aggregates, biodiversity). The vision of the ‘green agenda’ is centred on principles of a green economy defined by sustainable, low-carbon and resilient development that uses its resources efficiently, and sustained over generations. The development philosophy emphasises the importance of a more cohesive society based on principles of equity and tolerance between ethnic groups – recognising that diversity of culture and heritage is the underlying strength of the country’s human capital. Development objectives therefore seek to improve the health, education and overall well-being of Guyanese citizens, to lift people out of poverty through an economy that generates decent jobs and that provides opportunities for sustaining livelihoods over the long term. For decades, geopolitical events, natural disasters and global commodity price swings have weighed upon Guyana’s development.
