Ceremony of Enrolment for Confirmation The first of four ceremonies for children preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation next March will take place next week-end. The boys and girls from 6th Class in Gilson N.S. will take part in a Ceremony of Enrolment on Saturday 12th November at the vigil Mass at 7.00pm and for 6th Class Scoil Mhuire Moylagh on Sunday 13th November at 10.00am Mass in Moylagh Church. We welcome their parents and families who will gather for this special celebration in their lives. List of the Dead Envelopes The Church in its pilgrim members, from the very earliest days of the Christian religion, has always honoured with great respect the memory of the dead, and because it is a holy and a wholesome thought to pray for our loved one’s departed. After all remembering them in prayer is the only gift we can give them now. We do that by offering up Mass on the 1st Friday of every month. By submitting your departed loved one’s names on a list, they are included and remembered in a special way at that Mass. List of the Dead Envelopes are available in the Church. Please return them as soon as possible to be included in these Masses In November , We remember...Take the Short -Term Pledge for the month of November for deceased family and friends who have gone before us marked with the Sign of Faith. In a symbolic way, the living community gather around the Dead and commends them to the mercy and love of God. The temporary Shrine is also a reminder to us of the Communion of Saints – that the Dead are still in Communion with us in Christ and that inevitably each one of us will follow the same path that they have taken. In this, our Parish Community is seeking to fulfil its obligation of praying for its loved ones, after all remembering them in prayer is the only gift we can give them now and we are also following an ancient trend of humanity and a common practice in many religions and cultures. Praying for the dead is an early Christian tradition that is provided for in present-day Liturgy and recommended as a private practice. Honouring and praying for the dead is important for us who pray in so far as it extends our consciousness of life to include life after death. This is a life work. The average teenager is immortal. Mortality encroaches as we encounter sickness and death among family and friends. Every funeral we attend is quietly pushing out the boundaries of life to include death. When our nearest and dearest departs, death becomes more imminent but often more welcoming also. Our November prayers should also include the bereaved. Their suffering may be much greater than that of the dear departed and they need the support of our prayers. They also need on-going support from family, friends and neighbours, not in a suffocating manner which gives them little time to grieve but in a discreet and supportive way. The Fundraising Committee for the Oldcastle & District Alzheimer’s Day Care centre will be holding their AGM in the day Care Centre at the Health Centre Oldcastle on Thursday 10th November at 8pm. The day centre which provides twice weekly respite care for Alzheimer’s and Dementia clients and their families covers the areas of Oldcastle, Moylagh, Carnaross, Crossakiel, Castlepollard, Collinstown, Fore, Ballinacree, Mountnugent, Kilnaleck, Ballyjamesduff, Virginia & Maghera. The participation and support of all in these local communities is much welcomed and encouraged particularly as fundraising to keep this much needed service open and in our community is now essential.     Negotiating Musicianship Live Weider Ellefsen

    Ellefsen Weider Live Live Weider Ellefsen In this ethnographic case-study of a Norwegian upper secondary music musicianship Negotiating programme – “Musikklinja” – Live Weider Ellefsen addresses questions of Negotiating musicianship subjectivity, musical learning and discursive power in music educational practices. Applying a conceptual framework based on Foucault’s discourse The constitution of student subjectivities theory and Butler’s theory of (gender) performativity, she examines how the young people of Musikklinja achieve legitimate positions of music student- in and through discursive practices of hood in and through Musikklinja practices of musicianship, across a range of sites and activities. In the analyses, Ellefsen shows how musical learn- musicianship in “Musikklinja” ers are constituted as they learn, subjecting themselves to and perform- ing themselves along relations of power and knowledge that also work as means of self-understanding and discursive mastery. The study’s findings suggest that dedication, entrepreneurship, compe- tence, specialization and connoisseurship are prominent discourses at play in Musikklinja. It is by these discourses that the students are socially and institutionally identified and addressed as music students, and it is by understanding themselves in relation to these discourses that they come to be music student subjects. The findings also propose that a main charac- teristic in the constitution of music student subjectivity in Musikklinja is the appropriation of discourse, even where resistance can be noted. However, within the overall strategy of accepting and appropriating discourses of mu- sicianship, students subtly negotiate – adapt, shift, subvert – the available discourses in ways that enable and empower their discursive legitimacy. Musikklinja constitutes an important educational stepping stone to higher music education and to professional musicianship in Norway.

With over 25 years working in research and policy evaluation and 8 years direct work experience in the active travel sector, specialising in cycle training and cycle awareness, Pete has developed an extensive knowledge base of cycling and active travel research, data sources and policy in the United Kingdom and internationally. Pete is also an active volunteer with Manchester Friends of the Earth - campaigning mainly on air quality, cycling (Love Your Bike) and transport issues but would prefer to spend time on the allotment! John Alker John is Director of Policy & Places at UK Green Building Council (UK-GBC), where he leads the organisation’s advocacy strategy, working with government and the private sector through its campaigns and major projects. This includes leading UK-GBC's growing programme of work on cities, bringing city policy-makers together with industry to catalyse sustainable place- making. Prior to joining UK-GBC shortly after its launch in 2007, John led political communications on emissions trading and sustainable homes campaigns for the environmental charity WWF- UK.
