VAFA RNd 5 05.qxd 16/5/05 9:32 AM Page 1 Inside the VAFA Young Cardinal Goes Top of the Pops The following Top 40 was compiled with the assistance of several VAFA coaches and people in the know. Unlike many on the list, my number 1 has not played league or even VFL footy yet his dominance cannot be questioned. The fact that he kicked seven goals in a quarter on the man listed at number seven is testament to his ability. Such an exercise is obviously fraught with difficulty and I must stress that many of your tagging types, disciplined backmen and consummate team players have been omitted for more flashy, marquee type players. Similarly, some on the list (Garlick, Loats, McKee) have only been in the comp for five minutes yet they demand a spot through their exploits at the highest level. Disagree with my selections? Against all measured opinion, they are 4-0 (playing up the bush) and Jackson Brooke (on and a fitting testament to a hard, disciplined a winemaking course in NZ of all things) and ruthless game plan. Covering Mark Browne missing from the premiership side, suddenly in the ruck is a big ask but Lewis O’Flynn is things look a bit dusty.
