Since our beginning in the 1930’s, our founding visionary Mainers cultivated a community and family spirit by offering a balance of social events, recreation, and excellence in the performance and teaching of the arts. With our more recent Sexpansion to year round programming, it is clear that developing our unique assets is having a positive impact on the education, the local economy, and the lives of people who live in this region. We are all keenly aware that creating new and diverse job opportunities and growing economic stability will encourage those from Maine to stay or move back and will also encourage many more talented young people to consider Maine as their home. region have worked to shape a vibrant and diverse arts and cultural scene. Not only are the arts a promising economic driver in central Maine, they also play a key role in the development and education of our state’s youth – the true future of Maine. Waterville Creates! is proud of its growing collaborative relationship with Snow Pond Center for the Arts. By working together, we are increasing access to the performing arts for our region’s underserved communities and improving the quality and diversity of arts education for future generations. Beyond good jobs, the creation and stewardship of quality of place is essential. History suggests that all areas with growing and vibrant economies have great schools and an abundance of arts and cultural opportunities. Young people today are looking for communities that are affordable, safe, family friendly, and sustainable. They would love a place with all the natural beauty and advantages of Maine along with all the vibrant professional, educational, and cultural opportunities that are normally found in more urban areas. Long-term economic and community prosperity for our area is dependent upon the ability of young adults to envision a life for themselves and their families here. Snow Pond can play an important role in addressing these needs and has developed a multi-year plan with a primary purpose towards the attraction and retention of a population needed to support long-term economic stability. This is a collective regional initiative and partnerships have been developed with local organizations, area schools and youth organizations, the colleges, the arts organizations, local residents, and the municipalities that share geographic borders with Sidney. One of the primary goals of these partnerships is the overall promotion and branding of our region for its Quality of Place. 6 Snow Pond is very pleased to share that progress has been made on many fronts, most notably on educational objectives through New England Music Camp and other summer programs along with the year-round Community Arts & Music School, which offers affordable arts education and provides outreach programs at other area youth organizations. Many of these programs are innovative and all of them are transformative. Research consistently shows that music and arts education has a major positive impact on cognitive and skill development. There simply needs to be far greater awareness and far greater participation to see first hand this amazing transformation. Our overall goal, however, is more personal. We want to connect with our families and our communities in an interactive and creative way. We want to share our belief in the vital importance of providing every child here in Maine access and exposure to transformative arts education. We are striving to be an engaged learning community, and we want you to be part of this exciting journey. Please stop by Snow Pond to introduce yourself and share your thoughts, or email us at [email protected]. Most importantly, please participate - enroll in a program, attend a performance or special event regularly, join us for a community gathering, and tell a friend or neighbor. We want everyone to experience this magical place we call home with the hope that it starts to feel like your home too. Course Outline and Syllabus The Fab Four and the Stones: How America surrendered to the advance guard of the British Invasion. This six-week course takes a closer look at the music that inspired these bands, their roots-based influences, and their output of inspired work that was created in the 1960’s. Topics include: The early days, 1960-62: London, Liverpool and Hamburg: Importing rhythm and blues and rockabilly from the States…real rock and roll bands—what a concept! Watch out, world! The heady days of 1963: Don’t look now, but these guys just might be more than great cover bands…and they are becoming very popular…Beatlemania takes off. We can write songs; 1964: the rock and roll band as a creative force. John and Paul, their yin and yang-like personal and musical differences fueling their creative tension, discover that two heads are better than one. The Stones, meanwhile, keep cranking out covers, and plot their conquest of America, one riff at a time. The middle periods, 1965-66: For the boys from Liverpool, waves of brilliant albums that will last forever—every cut a memorable, sing-along winner. While for the Londoners, an artistic breakthrough with their first all--original record. Mick and Keith’s tempestuous relationship pushes away band founder Brian Jones; the Stones are established as a force in the music world. Prisoners of their own success, 1967-68: How their popularity drove them to great heights—and lowered them to awful depths. It’s a long way from three chords and a cloud of dust.

FOREIGN RIGHTS CATALOGUE 2020 • Iconic portraits and contact sheets from Goldfinger, Diamonds are Forever, Live and Let Die, Golden Eye and the 1967 Bond spoof, Casino Royale • Contributions from actors including George Lazenby and Jane Seymour • Includes a foreword by Robert Wade and Neal Purvis, screenwriters for the latest Bond film, No Time to Die Bond Photographed by Terry O’Neill The Definitive Collection James Clarke Terry O’Neill was given his first chance to photograph Sean Connery as James Bond in the filmGoldfinger . From that moment, O’Neill’s association with Bond was made: an enduring legacy that has carried through to the era of Daniel Craig. It was O’Neill who captured gritty and roguish pictures of Connery on set, and it was O’Neill who framed the super-suave Roger Moore in Live and Let Die. His images of Honor Blackman as Pussy Galore are also important, celebrating the vital role of women in the James Bond world. But it is Terry O’Neill’s casual, on-set photographs of a mischievous Connery walking around the casinos of Las Vegas or Roger Moore dancing on a bed with co-star Madeline Smith that show the other side of the world’s most recognisable spy. Terry O’Neill opens his archive to give readers - and viewers - the chance to enter the dazzling world of James Bond. Lavish colour and black and white images are complemented by insights from O’Neill, alongside a series of original essays on the world of James Bond by BAFTA-longlisted film writer, James Clarke; and newly-conducted interviews with a number of actors featured in O’Neill’s photographs.

Between 1962, when they made their first recordings, and 1970, when they disbanded, the Beatles drew upon several styles, including rock ‘n’ roll, to produce rock: today a term that almost defines today’s popular music. In 1963 their successes in England as live performers and recording artists inspired Beatlemania, which calls to mind the Lisztomania associated with the spectacular success of Franz Liszt’s 1842 German concert tour.

PRESS RELEASE April 2017 The Beatles Story and Julien’s Auctions bring ‘Memorabilia Day’ to Hard Rock Cafe London Following on from the success of the Liverpool memorabilia call out day in October 2016, The Beatles Story and Julien’s Auctions will be teaming up once again to bring ‘Memorabilia Day’ to London’s Hard Rock Cafe on Monday 5th June 2017. Hard Rock International is home to the world’s biggest collection of music memorabilia, with over 80,000 iconic pieces including countless items from The Beatles, making it a perfect partner for the upcoming event. The Liverpool day was a huge success bringing in a stream of visitors with exciting artefacts to be valued. One of the unique finds was a letter written by John Lennon addressed to The Queen, explaining why he was returning his MBE, valued by Julien’s Auctions at around £60,000. The owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, discovered the item tucked away inside the sleeve of a record that was part of a collection of 45s he picked up for £10 at a car boot sale 20 years ago. Until the meeting with Darren Julien, CEO of Julien’s, the owner of the letter had presumed it must have been a copy and was stunned and delighted to discover that it was authentic and valuable. Oja Rubber Souls: Rock and Roll and the Racial Imagination Abstract This dissertation explores the interplay of popular music and racial thought in the 1960s, and asks how, when, and why rock and roll music “became white.” By Jimi Hendrix’s death in 1970 the idea of a black man playing electric lead guitar was considered literally remarkable in ways it had not been for Chuck Berry only ten years earlier: employing an interdisciplinary combination of archival research, musical analysis, and critical race theory, this project explains how this happened, and in doing so tells two stories simultaneously.
