2.0 Fest 2020 Festival Programme

Part of Locked Down, Looking Up Funded by Arts Council England

31st July - 1st August

www.space.org.uk 0207 515 7799 The best playwrights have an ear for dialogue, which is why we’ve commissioned some of our favourites to celebrate the art of conversation. 8 short plays, written to be performed online by 2 actors in separate locations.

Message from Adam Hemming

As with Two Fest, back at the Space in February, 2.0 Fest is, first and foremost, a celebration of playwrights. Unlike nearly all of our other festivals and programmes, there is no open application process. We handpick playwrights whose work we’ve enjoyed and commission them to write something fresh. We put our immense faith in their undoubted talent and, on this occasion, challenged them to create a duologue to be performed online. We have been handsomely rewarded by the plays they have created.

Whilst all of the plays are very different, it’s always interesting to see what themes emerge from a collection of work written in the same period. What would these troubling, peculiar, isolated times throw up? For me, motherhood and identity come through strongly but am sure there will be different ones for different viewers. We look forward to chatting about these in our post-show zoom hangouts and hope you’ll join us for those.

2.0 Fest also gives us the chance to work with some of our favourite directors and actors whilst meeting some incredible new ones. We’ve been so impressed with the work they’ve put in and hope you enjoy the fruits of their labour.

As ever, we’re hugely grateful for the dramaturgical abilities of our wonderful Literary Manager, Mike Carter and the passion he has for working with playwrights Homecoming By Gemma Lawrence
