© CEN-CENELEC – 17 #standardays Why ANEC?
• Although the European Standardisation System is open to the participation of all stakeholders, it is largely dominated by industry. • ANEC, recognised together with ECOS and ETUC as ‘Annex III Organizations” under regulation 1025/2012, ensures the expertise needed to represent the consumer view in standardisation, and brings balance to a standardisation system where the voice of civil society is commonly weak – or absent – at National level.
© CEN-CENELEC – 18 #standardays About ANEC • ANEC was established in 1995 by the European Union (EU), the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and national consumer associations. • ANEC acts as the collective European consumer voice in standardisation. We represent and defend the European consumer interest in a continuum: In the development and the revision of European policies and laws related to standards, consumer protection & welfare standardisation (governance and technical levels of CEN, CENELEC & ETSI; sometimes technical level in ISO & IEC) In the use of standards (conformity assessment, market surveillance & enforcement) ANEC corporate video: https://goo.gl/2gEsHa

© CEN-CENELEC – 31 #standardays Challenges
• Attempt some diversification in funding: in view of the increasing challenges for consumers and noting we depend completely on EU financing; • Volunteers: ANEC depends on the contribution of European consumer experts who volunteer and dedicate their knowledge and time to defend the interest of consumers in standardisation at the European level. We need your help!
