We represent and defend the European consumer interest in a continuum: In the development and the revision of European policies and laws related to standards, consumer protection & welfare standardisation (governance and technical levels of CEN, CENELEC & ETSI; sometimes technical level in ISO & IEC) In the use of standards (conformity assessment, market surveillance & enforcement) ANEC corporate video: https://goo.gl/2gEsHa © CEN-CENELEC – 19 #standardays Structure and membership General Assembly (ANEC/GA) (one individual from each of 34 countries) Steering Committee (ANEC/SC) (up to 10 members from GA) Secretariat (10 FTEs) Working Groups (ANEC/WGs) (7 WGs comprising experts drawn from member countries) © CEN-CENELEC – 20 #standardays ANEC priorities Child Accessibility Safety Traffic & ANEC areas Digital Mobility of priority Society Sustainability Domestic Appliances Services The ANEC 2018 Work Programme is available on our website at http://www.anec.eu/images/Publications/other-publications/ANEC-GA- 2017-G-013.pdf © CEN-CENELEC – 21 #standardays ANEC budget • ANEC relies on funding from the EU (95%) and EFTA (5%) through annual operating grants made after a public call for proposals. • In 2017, the ANEC budget was 1,44M€. That’s 1€ for every 410 European consumers in the countries of its membership. Population in Europe © CEN-CENELEC – 22 #standardays ANEC standardisation activities In 2017: • ANEC was active in over 130 technical bodies of CEN, CENELEC or ETSI, and more than 25 technical bodies in ISO/IEC; • ANEC experts participated in 294 meetings at European and international level to develop consensual positions in the collective consumer interest. • ANEC asked its experts in its fields of priority for comments and input 439 times © CEN-CENELEC – 23 #standardays World Consumer Rights Day 2018 - Infographic http://www.anec.eu/images/Publications/other-publications/2018/2018-WCRD-Infographic.pdf © CEN-CENELEC – 24 #standardays ANEC standardisation activities (2) Opinions on draft standards sent to Enquiry or Formal Vote Not Favourable 16 Favourable 47 0 5 10 15 20 25 30 35 40 45 50 © CEN-CENELEC – 25 #standardays Success Stories Inclusion of “vulnerable consumers” in the EN 60335-2 standards for domestic electrical appliances © CEN-CENELEC – 26 #standardays Success Stories Safe sound limits for Personal Music Players (PMPs) (EN 60065:2002/A12:2011 & EN 60950-1:2006/A12:2011) © CEN-CENELEC – 27 #standardays Success Stories EN 301 549 “Accessibility requirements suitable for public procurement of ICT products and services in the Europe” © CEN-CENELEC – 28 #standardays Success Stories Child-resistant lighters (EN 13869:2002) © CEN-CENELEC – 29 #standardays Success Stories Rearward-facing Child-Restraint Systems (UNECE I-size) © CEN-CENELEC – 30 #standardays Success Stories EN 16664 ‘Playing field equipment — Lightweight goals — Functional, safety requirements and test methods’ and EN 16579 ‘Playing field equipment - Portable and permanent socketed goals - Functional, safety requirements and test methods’ © CEN-CENELEC – 31 #standardays Challenges • Attempt some diversification in funding: in view of the increasing challenges for consumers and noting we depend completely on EU financing; • Volunteers: ANEC depends on the contribution of European consumer experts who volunteer and dedicate their knowledge and time to defend the interest of consumers in standardisation at the European level.
