The Active Schools programme aims to provide quality opportunities to take part in sport and physical activity before school, during lunchtime and after school. Where possible the sessions will develop effective pathways between schools and sports clubs in the local community. The sessions are generally delivered by a network of volunteers consisting of teachers, parents, school staff, students, senior school pupils and sport club coaches. We are striving to ensure that the sessions are offered for free or minimal cost. All pupils that qualify for the clothing grant will receive free spaces on all Active Schools sessions. Freestyle Swimming Club is a sprint swimming club - a little out of step with most of the rest of the swimming world but that is how we like it! A key element of the club ethos is that we are about more than just swimming. It’s about finding that little bit more that is inside all of us, and about how the benefits of swimming training spill over into other areas of life. Our swimmers learn about self-discipline and self- motivation; focus and concentration; taking ownership (you get out what you put in); and, about working together and involving the community. We don’t separate the club or training sessions by age or ability – we all train together. We learn from each other and socialise together throughout the year. Why not come along to our Friday 5pm session at Forres Swimming Pool - all you have to do is just let us know beforehand. For more information E-mail [email protected] or visit the website at www.freestyles.org.uk

Inclusive Sessions SwimABLE and SurfABLE We are working in conjunction with Forres Swimming Pool and the Charity Friendly Access to provide SwimABLE and SurfABLE sessions during term time for children who have additional support needs. The session spaces are limited and will take place at Forres Swimming Pool on a Wednesday 0945-1030am (Forres ASG Primary) and Thursday 1130-1230 (Forres Academy) and will be led by swim instructors Robert Paterson, Emma Barber & Kev Anderson who are affiliated to the Swimming Teachers Association (STA). The inclusive structured swimming lessons are for all abilities and all ages. The pool sessions include the use of surf and stand up paddle boards, providing a unique approach for working towards improving balance and coordination, not to mention the extra sense of fun to keep participants engaged. Please contact Rosalyn Carruthers mobile: 07800 678561 email: [email protected] for more information. Friendly Access Friendly Access is a charity (SC045029) which focuses on creating and improving accessibility for everyone, regardless of disability or condition. ‘Seeing the environment as the disabling factor, not the individual’. Established in 2015 in Forres, Moray, we have 3 key areas. Technology, Sport and Education. We believe everyone should have the choice to take part in adventure sports. We also believe in making access to that sport inclusive, not exclusive. Since piloting the first autism specific surfing classes in Scotland in 2015, we proudly launched Scotland’s first fully adaptive and inclusive surf school SurfABLE Scotland in November 2017, providing the world’s most northerly surfing therapy programme for all (age 5 - adult), including low mobility and wheelchair users. The project mainly operates in Lossiemouth and Sandend and we also cover Caithness to Aberdeen. Contact: Kev Anderson [email protected] m.07938 214165 for information. Highland Cycle Ability Centre Active Schools has been working in partnership with this centre to provide opportunities for our young people and raise awareness of this fantastic facility at Cantray near Cawdor. The centre’s aim is to give everyone a safe and enjoyable place to cycle regardless of their ability. They have a fleet of adapted cycles from trikes and tandems to more specially adapted cycles for riders with different disabilities. The centre has a 1.2km track providing a great environment for families of mixed abilities to enjoy a cycle together.
