Sam and Cat Premieres Monday, 14 October Embargoed until 00:01 am (BST) on Sunday 1st September, 2013 SAM AND CAT PREMIERES MONDAY, 14TH OCTOBER Nickelodeon’s New Series Launches with Orange Carpet Event on Saturday, 12th October, Featuring the Show’s Co- Stars, Jennette McCurdy and Ariana Grande London – 1st September, 2013 – Grab your best friends, something pink and a juicy ham because Nickelodeon’s favourite funny gals: Jennette McCurdy and Ariana Grande are back in their new comedy series Sam & Cat. The series premieres in the UK on Monday, 14th October at 6:00pm with new episodes airing Monday nights at 6:00pm. To celebrate the UK premiere of Sam and Cat, Jennette and Ariana are visiting London to present a special screening of the new series. From today, UK and Irish fans can visit nick.co.uk for a chance to win tickets for the Orange Carpet screening event taking place on Saturday, 12th October at Cineworld at The O2. In the series premiere, total opposites Sam Puckett and Cat Valentine first meet when a wild predicament lands both girls in the back of a moving rubbish truck. After quickly becoming friends and roommates, they find themselves babysitting three younger kids, which give Sam and Cat the idea to start Sam & Cat's Super Rockin' Fun-Time Babysitting Service. Already proving to be a hit in the United States and with episodes featuring the UK’s own Sophia Grace and Rosie, Sam and Cat is the latest series from Dan Schneider, creator of iCarly and Victorious. Over the course of one year and with the use of a video camera, I recorded, observed, hung out and watched television with the girls in the informal setting of a friend’s house. I found that friendship informs and filters understandings and use of tween television in daily conversations with friends. Using Erving Goffman’s theory of facework as a starting point, I introduce a new theoretical framework called friendship work to locate, examine, and understand how friendship is enacted on a granular level. Friendship work considers how an individual positions herself for her own needs before acknowledging the needs of her friends, and is concerned with both emotive effort and social impact. Through group television viewings, participation in television themed games, and the creation of webisodes, the girls strengthen, maintain, and diminish previously established bonds.
