External and Internal Environment 1. Brief company history: On March 16th, 1966, brothers Paul and Jim Van Doren, along with other co founders, decided to open a company in Anaheim, California which they called Vans. As an executive at one of America’s largest shoe manufacturers, Doren noticed that shoe manufacturers were making pennies per shoe sold, while retailers took home the bulk. With this information, Doren decided to set up his own company that made and sold each shoe. In the early 1980s, after a few successful years in business, Dorens suggested that Vans create shoes for other sports like basketball, running, and breakdancing. However, the expansion did not work and their costs got too high which resulted in them having to file for Bankruptcy. In 1988, a group of investors bought Vans for $60 million, but Doren was sure that the investors did not understand the right way to manufacturer shoes. Sales ended up decreasing and Vans began spiraling downwards. So in the 1990s, Vans shifted its focus from being a manufacturing company to a marketing company. 2. Vans were originally created for the purpose of skateboarding, but have become a lifestyle shoe over time. Weekly Briefing Report Week ending 26 July 2020 Published 27 July 2020 Introduction I have been publishing The Quarterly Briefing Report since 2009. Over four months ago, I started producing The Weekly Briefing Report to provide a more immediate view. My insight What happens to the foodservice sector when the coronavirus packs its bags and leaves town, as one day it will? The answer to this question depends on many things but they will all be influenced in one way or another by the length of time between now and the end of the virus. I have been investigating these issues in conjunction with the IGD over the last few months (and some results have been published in our joint report “Eating Out vs Dining In”). But there are many specifics that remain to be investigated and answered. It seems to me that up to now, for the foodservice sector at any rate and I would guess most other sectors of the economy, there have been four ways that the coronavirus has impacted on the industry and the people and companies within it. First, the virus has exposed faults (and positives) that underline foodservice. Second, it has led to a process of degrading (businesses have been downsized, valued employees have been made redundant and much more). Third, there has been an acceleration of past trends (reduction in overcapacity, and the rebalancing of relationships between tenants and landlords spring to mind). -

Urban Geology in London No. 16 Luxury Lithics | Decorative Stone on Bond Street Ruth Siddall Old Bond Street was first laid out in the mid 1680s by a group of property developers and goldsmiths including Sir Thomas Bond, for whom the street is named. New Bond Street was completed after 1700. It is now the home of jewellers, fashion houses and fine art galleries. Luxury global brands aim to create a high-end shopping experience, with bespoke detailing applied to the materials used in the construction of the interiors and often exteriors of the building as well as to the merchandise. Architects and designers are employed to set a style across global branches of these stores. Thus brands often adopt a livery of often lavish décor which may include the use of specific stones in stores across Europe and the Globe. Thus the same stones may be used in, say, Mulberry stores in London, Paris and New York. Stones are chosen for their appearance and unique character. Indeed this guide has turned into a bit of an epic, with almost 40 different stones identified, representing the igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic categories and coming from the British Isles and continental Europe as well as from further afield localities including Canada and Brazil. They range in age from 2 billion year old Bushveld gabbros to 50,000 year old travertines from Rome. From Piccadilly, Old Bond Street and then New Bond Street run NNE in a straight line from Piccadilly to Oxford Street. For both Old and New Bond Streets, street numbering runs sequentially up the east side of the road and then down the west side of the roads.
