This schedule provides an overview of the events planned to support minority, women, and disabled-owned businesses. Activities include opportunities to network with local businesses and learn from decision-makers across City departments regarding contracting opportunities. For the full listing of events and registration links, please visit: www.phila.gov/med-week Monday, October 7 Minority Enterprise Development Week Kickoff When: Monday, October 7 from 8:00 a.m. to 11 a.m. Where: Fairmount Park Horticulture Center, 100 N Horticultural Dr, Philadelphia, PA 19131 Event Description: Join the Department of Commerce’s Office of Economic Opportunity as they kick off the 35th Annual Minority Enterprise Development (MED) Week in Philadelphia! Continental breakfast will be served during MED Week kick-off awards reception at the Fairmount Park Horticulture Center. Following the awards reception, please join us for Open for Business, an event that will highlight business and contracting opportunities. Work with Rebuild! When: Monday, October 7 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Where: Murrell Dobbins High School, 2150 West Lehigh Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19132 Event Description: Rebuild is committed to making sure a diverse set of businesses have opportunities to work on Rebuild projects. At this event, you’ll have a chance to: • Meet the nonprofits applying to manage the next round of Rebuild projects. • Learn about the next round of Rebuild projects. • Hear updates on Rebuild and the contracting process. • Learn about Rebuild Ready, a program to help prepare diverse businesses to compete for Rebuild contracts. • Get information on becoming an official minority- or woman-owned business through Rebuild’s Emerging Vendors Program. The discussion will center around Philadelphia’s Hospitality, Tourism and Food Service Industries and how they offer great business opportunities for Philadelphia’s minority business. IT Procurement Matchmaking Fair When: Tuesday, October 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Where: The Enterprise Center, 4548 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19139 Event Description: IT vendors will meet with procurement officers from universities, corporations, and hospitals to learn about available opportunities and how to get into their pipeline. Attend to network and market your business to procurement officers and other firms in attendance. Be the Prime: Joint Ventures from A to Z When: Tuesday, October 8 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Where: SEPTA, 1234 Market Street, 3rd Floor, Philadelphia, PA 19107 Event Description: SEPTA’s Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Program Office and Cheyney University’s Diverse Business Supportive Services Center are hosting a panel discussion on Joint Ventures. We will focus on the following topics: • What exactly is a joint venture and how does it work? • Is a joint venture right for my company? • What should I look for in a joint venture partner? • What are the legal requirements of a joint venture? • What should I include in a joint venture agreement? • How do I enter into a joint venture without compromising my DBE/Diverse Business status? Cybersecurity systems and principles are designed to safeguard websites and web applications from attackers seeking to disrupt, delay, alter or redirect the flow of data. These attackers vary in target, motive, levels of organization and technical capability, requiring public and private organizations to adopt ever-increasing measures to prevent cyber attacks. Network With The Primes at The School District of Philadelphia When: Tuesday, October 8 from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Where: School District of Philadelphia, 440 North Broad Street, 1st Floor - Atrium, Philadelphia, PA 19130 Event Description: The School District of Philadelphia will be hosting an information session and networking event to give businesses an opportunity to learn more about the array of potential direct and indirect construction-related contracting opportunities at the School District. There will be an introduction to how the Office of Capital Programs and Office of Facilities & Maintenance utilizes various vendors, as well as an overview of the requirements to be a vendor, an overview of the bidding process and how to respond to construction- related opportunities, and how contract diversity inclusion goals are important in this sector.
