1741 – November 2019 Today we commemorate the 279th anniversary of the recognition of Christ alone as the Chief Elder and Head of the . The following digest from our history will highlight the announcement that was made to all congregations of the Unity on November 13, 1741.

Brother Leonard Dober, who had held the position of Chief Elder since 1735, came to feel that he could no longer carry the responsibilities of his office in a widely scattered and growing church. A synodical conference was held in London with ten people present (five men and five women). Most of the participants in the conference were under the age of 42, and one was age 16. Several names were submitted to the lot for approval, but no one was accepted. Finally, this question was asked: “Would not the Lord our Saviour be so gracious as to accept this office for Himself?” When the answer was yes they sang a hymn. This happened on September 16, 1741 in London. A decision was made to make the announcement of this decision on November 13, 1741 in all congregations. This gave time for the preparation of hymns and a special liturgy to be used as the announcement was made in the local churches.

The flowers are placed in the Sanctuary today in loving memory of TK and Iris Amos by their children Pam Amos Meyerhoeffer and Rick Amos. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Virtually the Best Christmas Party Ever! Wednesday, December 9, 6:30 PM

“He hadn’t stopped Christmas from coming… it came! Somehow or other, it came just the same!

--Dr. Seuss, How the Stole Christmas

It’s coming, and NOTHING can stop it! Not shutdown, not separation, not a virus, not even the Grinch could stop Christmas from coming to our Church Family! On Wednesday, December 9, at 6:30 PM, you and your loved ones are invited to let Christmas zoom from house to house and heart to heart as the Home Church Family gathers virtually for a time of GREAT JOY!

This online soirée will feature a fellowship time and a (video) Christmas talent show!

Fellowship Time will allow us to break into “zoom rooms” where you and a small group of other members can enjoy holiday conversation. You may wish to show off your , share favorite recipes, or answer questions like “favorite Christmas memory,” “funniest lovefeast story,” or “Who among us has thrown up on Christmas morning?” (okay, maybe not that one).

Christmas Talent Show: Can you play an instrument, sing a song, share a poem, dance a dance? Maybe your family would even like to perform a silly Christmas skit. Use your cell phone to video your best Christmas-themed act, and send it to the church office ([email protected]). We’ll compile the acts into a single, fabulous Home Church Christmas Talent Show that will air the night of the party!

So mark your calendars for Wednesday, December 9 at 6:30! No reservation required… a Zoom link will be available to all church members.

Christmas is coming, Beloved. So come, all ye faithful, virtual and triumphant! Come and celebrate at the virtual Church Family Christmas Party on December 9!
