The Oscars 2017

The Oscars is an annual award winning ceremony, where awards are given out to recognize excellence in cinematic achievements. The winners are rewarded with a copy of a statuette called Academy Award of Merit, commonly known by its nickname "Oscars". The statue is a metal man standing on a film roll and holding a sword. Oscars is given out by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The Academy's voting membership gets to decide who gets nominated, and awarded.

The first ceremony was in 1929 on radio, and later in 1953 it got televised for the first time.

The Oscars where held on February 26, 2017. It takes place yearly at the Dolby Theatre, in Los Angeles California. This year was the 89th Academy Award ceremony with Jimmy Kimmel as host. The Oscars honored the movies of 2016.

There is a lot of excitement around this event. It can be seen live from more than 200 countries, and streamed online, which makes it easier for everyone to keep up.

As well as the Oscars are about the awards, they're also about the shocking and fabulous dresses and suits. This is often a big focus on social media, which has become quite normal. The gossip and the revealing news are as well a big part of the Oscars.

There were 24 different categories and many nominated. Some of the winners were Emma Stone (from "La La Land") as best Actress in a leading role, Casey Affleck (from "Manchester by the Sea") as best Actor in a leading role, "La La Land" as best music and "Moonlight" as best picture.

"La La Land" was as a mishap, declared winner of Oscars 2017 best picture honors by the presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunawaye. When the team of the movie held their acceptance speech they got stopped, and it was cleared that it was made a mistake. The team of "La La Land" handled it well, and gave the Oscar further to the team of "Moonlight". "La La Land" won six awards, including a win of Emma Stone.

Things to do in Honolulu

Honolulu is the capital of Hawaii. The city is situated on the island Oahu and the main point of entry for most visitors to the state. There are visitors from all over the world coming here to enjoy the beach- es, museums, tropical climates, the heat, malls and centers. There are so much to do in Honolulu and this article will show you where you can go and experience new and amazing adventures with your friends and family.

1. The Diamond head hike The Diamond head is a volcanic landmark. The roads are well marked, there are fences around the trails in the mountains for security reasons and great stairs in inclines. When you reach the top, there is an amazing view over the Waikiki beach.

2. The Pearl Harbor The attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise military strike conducted by the Imperial Japanese Navy against the United States naval place at Pearl Harbor in 1941. This attack led to the United States’ entry into World War II.

On the Pearl Harbor, the visitors can get a professional narration from an expert guide. On this tour you can go the Round Trip transportation, either from Waikiki to Pearl Harbor or from Honolulu Interna- tional Airport.

3. The Waikiki beach The Waikiki beach is the perfect place for surf and stand-up paddling lessons. You and your family can sleep over at the fantastic Waikiki hotel.

4. Hanauma Bay Snorkeling This amazing beach has over 450 different and colorful Hawaiian tropical fish species! Many of which can only be found in Hawaii. The humuhumunukunukuapua’a fish is the Hawaiian state fish. You can swim alongside and take pictures with the fish and turtles. It would be fantastic pictures and super fun experiences.

5. Ala Moana Center

Ala Moana Center is the largest shopping center located in Honolulu. There are more than 290 stores in the mall! There are also 80 dining options, four major department stores and several only-in-Hawaii retailers featuring locally-made products.

6. Byodo-in temple The Byodo-in temple was established to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the first Japanese immigrants to Hawaii. Ringing the bell will purify the mind of evil spirits and temptation. This bell will bring you happiness, blessing and a long life.

7. Dole plantation pineapple maze The Plantation provides enjoyable activities for your family, including the Pineapple Express, the Plan- tation Garden Maze. Before you leave, you can get a fresh pineapple to take home. It is the largest maze in the world.

8. The Lanai beach/ turtle beach You and your family can bring picnic, lay in the sand or swim in the water. But it’s a reason why they call it the turtle beach. That’s because it’s always sea turtles there. The sea turtles loves to basket in the sun and they are friendly.

Ten things to do/see in Vermont

Vermont is not a typical place to travel if you're spending your holiday. Not many people who don't live in the United states have ever heard about this state. Despite the fact that not as many people travel there for pleasure, there is still a lot of incredible attractions around the place. I present to you Ten things to do in Vermont.

Number 1: Vermont teddy bear company

Vermont teddy bear company is one of the largest teddy bear brands in the world. Its located in Shelbourne, Vermont. All teddy bears are handmade and the company produces over 500 000 teddy bears each year.

Number 2: Mount snow

Mount snow is a ski slope in Vermont. It contains of 86 slopes you can use and its 20 lifts in total. The slopes is 14% for beginners, 73% easy slopes and 13% demanding slopes. There is no expert slopes.

Number 3: Burlington brewery tour

This is a four hour tour which costs around 85 dol- lars. You get to taste up to fifteen world class beers, dine at a local resturant and get inside tips from a local. This tour is of course for adults.

Number 4: Stowe recrecration path

If you're looking for a quiet and amazing walk, but also full of excite- ment, this is the tour for you! You can either walk or ride a bike. Theres many rivers and the path leads to a mountain where you also can walk.

Number 5: Taste of Vermont food tour

A full day of eating, isn't that what everyone wants! You get to taste foods like sample cheese, cider, donuts and ice cream. It's located at the Green mountain state in vermont and the to- tal price is around 130 dollars.

Number 6: Paramount theater

The Paramount theater is located in Rutland, Vermont. The playhouse is the theater often called and it is a his- toric performance theater. Several people describes this theater as warm and cosy. In the rewievs of this theater it almost every time get five out of five stars and they highly recommend you this place.

Number 7: Mountain bike lesson in Stowe

Are you new to mountain biking? Do you want to get more active while still having fun and being social? Then this small group tour is something for you. It's a two hour step by step guide andthe price is 65 dollars.

Number 8: Hildene, The Lincoln family home

This is where the famous former president Abra- ham lincoln and is family lived. It has a beautiful garden and outdoor area and an amazing indoor design. It is now a museum and the house is ex- tremely big. Interested in old furnitures and beau- tiful place? This is your place!

Number 9: Waterfront park

This park in Burlington does not only have paths and plants, it also has beaches! Not your normal park! It has boat and car parkings and they send up fireworks several times a year. Looking for a fun day in the sun? Then this is your go to!

Number 10: Driving tour with picnic

This tour specialises itself for people over 50, who want a peaceful and luxury day. The price is 260 dollars for one day. You will be driving through the hills of vermont in a lux- ury BMW Z4. Its free drinks all day and you're driving slowly trough Vermonts most peaceful and luxuriest areas.

American Schools VS Norwegian Schools

Norwegian Schools

In Norway, we have Elementary school, middle High school, High school and then University.

· Elementary school lasts 7 years. From 1 class to7th class. The age of the students is 6 years old to 13 years old. · Middle High School lasts 3 years. From 8th class to 10th class. The age of the students is 13 years old to 16 years old. · High School lasts 3 years. From 11th class 13th class. The age of the students is 17 years old to 19 years old. · University lasts 3-5 years. The age of students from 19 years old.

After Middle High School you have to choose 3 High Schools. These 3 choices are high schools you want to go to. Here is an example

1. Hetland videregående skole 2. St. Svithun videregående skole 3. Bjergsted MDD These three schools are the choices someone could make. Your first choice means that you want to go there and study there. It will say that it is your favourite.

Your second choice it is also a good choice but you don’t want to go there as much.

Your third choice is your least favourite

University is free but you must pay for an apartment or student house.

American School

In America, they have preschool, elementary school, junior or middle high school, High school and College.

 Preschool is a school for children before they go to elementary school. It is the parents’ choice if they want their child to go there.  Elementary school is a school for children before they start the middle high school. It is the first school. From 1 class to 5 class.  Junior or middle High school is the school before they go to High school. The second school. From 6 class to 8 class  High School is from 9 class to 12 class. The last year of the High school they choose the Col- lege they want to go to.  College is the most expensive school. They must pay to go to college. Many students don’t go to college because it is too expensive. College is a school where they study for work and learn about the job where they want to be.

Teachers

In Norway, they don't have to say the last name of teacher. They don't have to say Ms, Mr, Mrs, Dr, ma’am, coach and sir. They only say first name to the teachers.

In America, they have more respect to for teachers. The students must say Ms, Mr, Mrs, Dr, ma’am, coach or sir. They can’t say the first name to the Teachers. Students must show respect. Teacher says the last name to the students. In preschool, the children may use the first name to the teachers. Spare Time

At schools in Norway they have no sports as a spare time at school. After school, they go home and they go to the sport they usually. Example football/soccer, I go home and change clothes to football/ soccer uniform and then I go to the place where I must be.

At schools in America most schools have sports at the school. At High school, you can join the sport they have at the school. It is free there. They do sports after they are done with school for the day.

Clothes

In Norway, they don’t have uniforms and neither dress code. Dress code is a code on what you can and cannot wear. At school in Norway, you may choose which clothes you want to wear.

In America, they have very strict rules about clothes in some schools.

Here are some rules for the dress code:

- No tops that have thinner straps than the width of three fingers - No shorts / skirts must at least reach down to mid-thigh - No crop tops - No see-through clothes - No holes in the jeans - No hats or caps - No clothes with big words

Hall pass

America has a strict rule at school. This rule doesn’t Norway have.

Hall pass is a pass you get from the teacher when you must go to the bathroom. At the hall pass it stands which class you are in and which teacher you have. If you get stopped by a teacher in the hall. You must show them the pass. If you don’t have a hall pass you can get in school suspension, meaning that you can’t join regular classes. And you lose your parking place at school for a week

In Norway, they have different classes every day. Some days we have the same subject but not the same time.

America has the same class and same subject every day.

The Amish Church

Who are the Amish people?

The history of the Amish people, also known as Amish Mennonite, started with the teachings of Jakob Ammann in 1693. Ammann was the first leader of the Amish religious movement, that is de- scribed as a traditionalist Christian church fellow- ship.

It’s first of all the way the Amish people live, for example their distinctly conservative dresses, that separate them from the modern society. It’s common to look at the Amish as old fashioned, especially because they live ”simple” and reject most of the modern technology.

Amish today

The Amish people live in more than 200 settlements in 22 states in the USA. Some of the largest communities are in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. There are about 300,000 (2016) old order Amish people who really stick to their Amish traditions. It’s common that they live on farms and use horse-drawn farm machinery.

Music

In many religions music is an appreciated art form, and the Amish people are no exception. The Amish are not allowed to play any instruments or listen to music, unless it comes from their songbook called Ausbund. Even though there are no musical notes in the book, it’s still in continuous use. The musical tunes of the songs pass down through generations.

Faceless dolls

The most popular toy for Amish children is the faceless doll. There is no official story of where the faceless dolls come from, but there are some theo- ries about the meaning of them. The first is that they symbolize the Amish peoples belief that eve- ryone is equal in the eyes of God. The second part comes from the Book of Deuteronomy, which says that you can’t make anything ”likeness to the heaven above or the earth below.” The Amish understand this as a message that we should not make objects that look like hu- mans, and without a face the dolls don’t really represent humans.

DONALD TRUMP’S WAY TO PRESIDENCY Donald Trump is an interesting but controversial man. He was born 1946 in New York City into a rich family. He has a long and successful career as a businessman and well known celebrity. Despite of that he had something completely different in mind for his future: he wanted to run for president. Even though he had close to none political ex- perience or education he ended up representing The Republican Party in 2016 and even won the election. But how could this happen? How could a businessman with no political experience end up winning the election, and what even made him want to get into politics?

A businessman and celebrity

Because of his dad and his rich family he early learned about running a company. He got his own company and went on with both ups and downs. In addition to being a successful busi- nessman, he has also had a role in many movies and TV shows. One of the shows he ap- peared in was The Apprentice in 2004 and he also had a small role in the movie Home Alone 2. He even got his own vodka brand! To summarize it seems like he had all he could ask for but he wanted to become something even bigger: he wanted to become the president of The United States, but why?

Why did he get into politics?

One obvious reason why he wanted to be the president is of course all the attention he would get. Who wouldn’t like to live in the white house with one of the biggest jobs in the whole world, but we also think something else made him want the job. Donald Trump has made it clear that wants to “make America great again”. He says that America keeps supporting other countries without getting anything in return. This is something he really wants to change and one way to do that is by getting a job as a president.

From businessman to president

After multiple years with planning and strategic thinking, he signed up for being a potential candidate for The Republican Party among some other politicians. You would probably think that a person with more political experience would be best suited for the job, but he ended up as the best candidate because of his good thoughts and his way of being convincing.

During his presidential campaign he actively used social media to attract public attention. For example, he used Twitter a lot to make controver- sial, sometimes offending statements which meant that he got loads of attention and used the media to give him an advantage. His name was so much talked about that you just couldn’t stop hearing about him, he was everywhere!

Something else that helped him in his campaign was his special personality. It seems like people were bored of the normal boring politicians and they liked how trump was someone different. He was a way more interesting man and people liked that. If you combine that with his smart use of social media and the fact that not too many liked Hillary Clinton he finally ended up as the president of USA.

The difference between the American and Norwegian prison- system

The difference between the American prisons and the Norwegian prisons are huge. In America people get treated like animals. The police officers don't care about the inmates. The conditions are terrible. In Norway the inmates are actually treated like human beings. They can get education and work inside of the prison. They can also become a better person. In America it is the complete opposite. The Ameri- can prison system has a lot to learn from Norway.

Prisons in Norway

Many people think that the conditions in the Norwegian prisons are too good. They have their own room with everything they need. The inmates have access to three functional living cells, workshops, cooking areas and multiple healthcare professionals. The prisons has a lot of possibilities for the in- mates to become a better person.

Many people think that the prisoners don't deserve this luxury, but it is a reason for it. The point with the Norwegian prison-system is to rehabilitate the prisoners so that when they come out of the prison, they have possibilities to do what they want.

Every inmate in Norwegian prison is going back to society. Do you want people who are angry, or do you want people who are rehabilitated? They could be your next neighbor. For Norway, removing peo- ple's freedom is enough of a punishment.

“In the law, being sent to prison is nothing to do with putting you in a terrible prison to make you suf- fer. The punishment is that you lose your freedom. If we treat people like animals when they are in prisons they are likely to behave like animals. Here in Norway we pay attention to you as human be- ings.” – Arne Nilsen, Bastøy prison governor.

Prisons in America

The prisons in America are the complete opposite of the Norwegian prisons. The prisoners are literally locked up behind high concrete walls. The conditions for the prisoners are borderline inhumane. They treat them like animals.

Some of the prisoners don't even have their own cell. They live in a big room with all the other prison- ers. Then there is a big chance of being beaten up by the other inmates.

In the American prisons they separate the white and the black people. They don't have the chance to do what they want.

A big difference

In America, 76,6% of released prisoners are re-arrested within five years of release. In Norway, 20% of prisoners return. One of the lowest recidivism rates in the world.

When the Norwegian prison try to help the inmates and focuses on rehabilitation, the inmates can im- prove themselves and become a better person. That is why the recidivism rate in Norway is so low. In America they focus on the punishment and not the rehabilitation. When the prisoners get in to jail, they will get worse and more angry. When The inmates in America get out of prison they will most likely get re-arrested.

It is better to rehabilitate the inmates instead of making them more angry so that they will commit new crimes. The American prison system needs a change!

The difference between Norwegian and American food is huge. In this text you can read about what the difference is and why it is like this. Many people think of Americans as overweight, unhealthy people who eat a lot of junk food. And the Norwegians are known as more healthy people who eat vegetables, fish and are in physical activity almost every day. But is it actually like this?

The main difference between the food One thing we all know is that we are more conscious about what we put in our mouth than most Americans. We rarely go out to eat, and mostly make our own meals. Americans often do the opposite to us. Many people are busy with their jobs all week and don't have the time to make their own meals. They instead go to restaurants and fast food places were you don't really know exactly what you put in your mouth.

One reason why most Americans choose to eat this unhealthy food from any food res- taurant, is that it is very much cheaper than healthy food. American grocery stores offer more of this food with cheap prizes that make a lot of people buy it instead of expensive fruit and vegetables. Not all of the people have the money to buy expensive food either, so they don't have that many other options than this. But does this include all Americans?

Bigger states like Florida and California were richer people live, more and more people think about which food they choose to eat in their everyday life. More people have the money to buy healthy food and go to gyms to workout. A lot of people are actually vegan and vege- tarians too. School lunch

We decided to write about the difference school lunch because this is something that include us. On the two pictures above you can see an American school lunch and an Norwegian school lunch. Do you see a difference? In America they usually get lunch at school instead of bring it from home like we do in Norway. The American lunch doesn't fill as much compared to the Norwegian classical homemade lunch. Another source of the difference between the lunches is a lack of vegetables and brown bread. This is most seen in the United States. In both of the countries it's normal to have a snack for lunch. In the US they use to eat a cookie, some chips or something we would wait to eat for the weekend. Our snack here in Norway normally consists of fruit an

vegetables.

It seems that the Norwegian society develop in the same way as the American society. The

American lifestyle influence great many Norwegians in one way or another.

As you may know USA is a country were people eat a lot. Sweet, savory and salt. The possi- bilities and options are endless. When walking in a grocerystore you will see rows and rows of foods from different brands. Fast-food restaurants are to find everywhere and overweighted people as well.

Many americans choose fast-foods over other healthier options because it is quick and cheap. Of course it tastes good too.

We read an article about nine years old american boys weighing over 100 kilograms. They were too ashamed to go outside in public and didn't get any exercise because of that. Over- weight is a growing problem in the USA which is hard to get rid of. People make their own choices and not always the healthiest ones. Maybe education is the key to a healthier popula- tion?

American pancakes

Pancakes are a normal breakfastfood in America even though the batter contains lots of su- gar and the pancakes are topped with syrup. We tried to make them and here is the recipe:

- 5 dl flour

- 3 eggs

- 50g butter

- 3 dl milk

- 1 tsp baking soda

- 1 tbsp sugar

- 1 tsp salt

Melt the butter and mix it with milk and eggs. Then add in the dry ingredients and and mix well. Let the batter sit for 10 minutes before you fry them in a pan until they’re golden on each side. Serve with whatever topping you would like. For example fruits, berries, syrup or jam.

S'mores

S'mores are a popular nighttime snack. Making s'mores can be a social and fun happening around the fireplace. Give it a try!

Put the ingredients together like this: cracker - chocolate - marshmallow - cracker and roast them over an open fire with friends or family.

The national basketball assosiation or as other say, NBA. The league was founded the 6. Of june 1947, 70 years ago. The American league has 30 teams (29 from the United States and 1 from Canada.) it is seen as the major professional basketball league. NBA players are the world's best paid athletes by average annual salary per player. The best paid basketball player is Lebron James earning 31 million dol- lars per year. Tha salary of even the worst players in the nba earn just as much as the highest paid football players in the English Premier League

In 2013 a ticket would cost from 10 to 3000 dollars depending on the location, rivalery or suc- csess rate of the team. 45% of people watching is under 35 years old making the nba fans the youngest audience. Basketball has the highest share of black people watching with a total of 45% and around 40% white people watching, making it the only top North American sport that doesn't have a white majority audience.

Boston Celtics dominance

Celtic is seen as the most succsessfull nba club winning 17 campionships since 1957 - 2008. Bill Russel joined the club in 1957 and won them 11 NBA titles in 13 seasons. through this period when Boston Celtics were dominating the league such clubs as Minneapolis Lakers (Los Angeles), Philadephia Warriors (San Francisco) and Syracuse Nationals (Philadephia) were focusing on improving and get the title out of the hands of Boston Celtics, which some clubs managed to do and Celtics didn't win a single NBA or Championship in a long period. Last time they managed wo win a major trophy was in 2008.

Rules for dummies

A team can make several point by throwing the ball in the nett. Outside the marked area, you can get 3 point and 2 point by hitting the nett from inside of the area. Too much contact between two players can result to a penalty or a free-throw. A game lasts for a maximum of a couple minutes and ones the clock rings the match is over unless the ball is in the air meanwhile. There is also a first and second half to give the players a break. SPACEX wants to colonize mars by Trym

A company called SpaceX wants and has planned a mission where they get a giant space ship on mars and begin colonizing it.

The company SpaceX has planned a mission to begin colonizing mars 2022.

SpaceX is unsure of the exact date of the launch but will send a unmanned ship in 2018 to mars so they can test the new landing method for mars. They chose to use the booster's instead of a giant parachute. They are planning to colonize mars whit 1 million people by landing 100 peo- ple each landing, they think the red planet can become self sustaining whit in 50 to 100 years.

Here is how it goes the mission is to get the ship into orbit Then the booster will separate and return to earth, land and then be refueled and get a refueling ship in orbit whit the passenger ship to join whit the travel and keep the passenger ship full of fuel

When the ship has come to mars they will begin to land.

When they have landed they will begin setting down capsules that will contain the passengers and life sup- port capsules.

They will begin to cover the capsules up in dirt and sand using 3d printing rovers to protect the capsules and make them more long lasting.

The Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty is a monument. Statue of Liberty originally named is Liberty Enlight- ening the World. Statue of Liberty was designed by the French sculptor Frédéric Bartholdi. The Statue of Liberty was unveiled on 28 October 1886. This monument was a gift from the people of France. On the day America celebrated its 100th anniversary on 4 of July 1876. The world's most famous landmark is in New York, on Liberty island.

What does she symbolize and what is she holding ?

She is a symbol of freedom around the world.

Statue of Liberty is a young woman wearing long dress. In her right hand she holds the torch of freedom and in her left hand she holds the brick tablet of Declaration of lndependence ( 4 of July 1776). There are seven rays on her crown, one for each of the seven continents.

When was the Statue of Liberty built?

The Statue of Liberty was officially dedicated and unveiled on October 28, 1886. Statue of liberty began in 1875 and was not completed until 1884. When it was finished in 1885, the statue was taken apart into 350 pieces and then put together again.

Nike Inc is an American company . Nike is one of the most popular brand in the world.

It was found in Oregon in 25. January 1964 by Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman. The American brand was originally known as Blue Ribbon Sports (BRS). Nike was first known as Blue Ribbon Sport, but The company took the Nike in 1971 from the Greek for victory goddess. Nike have many sponsorships with different athletes. Nike also sponsored football players such as: Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Ronaldinho, Wayne Rooney and many popular football teams. Nike's biggest deal is with the formerly professional NBA player and with professional NBA player, Lebron James who has a lifetime contract with Nike. He liked football early in his life. When he was 5 years old, he showed that he can be a good football player. He started his professional career after high school. he started on a football clup named North Jersey Imperials. After two years, he was bought by one of the best teams in the United States ( metrostars), bit He was reserve goalkeeper in 1 years, but first keeper was injured so had Tim standing in goal for the first time for metro stars and he did well job. after 2 years on the metro starts, he signed a contract with one of the best teams in the world (Manchester United). he was very good. everyone liked him after he saved the penalty in the fa cup against Arsenal and they won fa cup just because of tim. but later in the season lost Tim shape and gets worse and worse, therefore he became the second goalkeeper of the team for 1 year. when the season finishes were offered to play for Everton and he said yes to play there and he played on everton for 7 years.
