    Kemball School Spring 2020 Newsletter Hello Everyone, Well I never thought that we would be ending the Spring term like this, with the whole country on lockdown, worried about catching a potentially deadly virus. These are indeed very scary times. This virus is very serious otherwise the Government would not be taking such extreme steps to protect people from catching and spreading it. With this in mind, as you know, we have made the decision to only open to certain pupils whose parents are either key workers or where, in conjunction with social care, we have identified that children will be at a greater risk by not coming into school. We made this decision for the following reasons: In order to provide a safe environment for our students, we need high ratios of well trained, medically competent, experienced staff who understand your children. With staff illness and their own vulnerabilities I can’t guarantee the same high student to teacher ratios that we need to safely meet the needs of the students. Concerns about the potential risk to the health of our children – if we take the government advice, by the very nature of our school, our children have underlying health conditions that make them vulnerable. Government guidance has identified having a learning need as being a vulnerable category. The Government have seemed to forgotten that having an EHCP won’t protect your child from catching the virus or bringing it back to their family. We are unable to keep a social distance in a school – our students are sociable and have no concept of personal space – we are unable to socially isolate Your child is having close 1:1 personal contact with our staff, particularly if they need physical management, feeding and personal care.

    PRESS RELEASE New lease of life for Burslem School of Art Burslem School of Art, in the heart of the Mothertown, will soon be embarking on a new chapter in its illustrious history. From September 2016, 200 students from Haywood Sixth Form Academy will move into the newly refurbished grade II listed building to enjoy purpose-built facilities. A state-of-the-art design enterprise suite will be used for engineering product design and textiles. A specialist photography suite will house its own dark room and Apple Macs to enable students to learn digital photography skills. An ICT ‘window on the world’ room and specialist computing laboratory will provide students with leading-edge computer equipment and there will also be a specialist science lab and language lab. Students will develop their artistic talents in the magnificent art room, with its huge windows and perfect lighting for artwork, following in the footsteps of the Burslem School of Art’s prestigious alumni, including Clarice Cliff, Susie Cooper and William Moorcroft. The Burslem School of Art Trust carried out a refurbishment of the building in 2000 and has developed and delivered many arts events, projects and activities over the past fifteen years, working with diverse communities and artists.     The Willows News – Week 7 20.10.17 www.willowsprimary.com Explore - Dream - Discover Dear Parents/Carers What a great end of half-term surprise for our pupils: a visit from Tony Scholes, Mark Hughes, Jack Butland and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. I can’t imagine that I will be writing about a guest list of this calibre in the future (but then, I’m always hopeful). Yesterday, was a wonderful example of ‘Willows team spirit’ – the ‘above and beyond’ that our staff demonstrate to make our school a truly amazing place. As a consequence, school looked fabulous; the pupils’ behaviour was exemplary and I was exceptionally proud of everyone (I hope you’ve seen the video clips on The Sentinel website). Press coverage was at a national level and so I’ll be searching through The Times, Daily Mail, Daily Mirror and The Sun this weekend to see if I can capture any coverage of the event that took place in school. Earlier today, I received a ‘thank you’ e-mail from Tony Scholes and I was delighted to read his final comments which I feel honoured to share with you: ‘I was incredibly impressed with your school. It is clear the school has a positive learning ethos, but one which is backed up by a caring and supportive atmosphere. The children were a delight and a great credit to the school and their families. We look forward to working with you in the future!’ A special mention must be made to Miss Smalley who co-ordinated the whole event – thank you.
