STEAM POWERED GIRAFFE SAMPLE TECH RIDER 2019 This tech rider is a sample and should be used as a rough example of the show’s needs.. A final tech rider would be tailored to your event, as local, out-of-state, or out of country shows all have different requirements. SUMMARY OF NEEDS: - Round-Trip Air Travel for Seven (7) (Dependent on event location) - Performance Fee (Amount dependent on event location) - Hotel Stay for the Duration - Fulfillment of Tech Rider Note: The band can also do a “travel buyout” depending on your event’s needs STAGE MANAGEMENT: Personnel: A stage manager (SM) should be present when we arrive and our tech director begins to set up the stage. The SM should have full knowledge of the theatre (or immediate access to said information), including power capabilities, audio tie-in locations, safety protocols, and scheduling. LIGHTING: Personnel: A lighting technician will be required to operate lights during the show. If a lighting designer can be provided during the planning stages of the show, please put them in contact with our tech director (contact info at the end of the rider). Rig: The show is very theatrical, and as such, a professional-quality lighting rig that is suitable to the venue should be used. Note: Specific lighting cue lists exist for our in-house rig, which consists of 11 colorblast TRX units and 2 Martin Mac Aura units. AUDIO: Personnel: We travel with our own sound engineer who handles our setup and mixes our show. He will interface with any technical staff at the venue to ensure that everything goes smoothly. A backstage A2 is very welcome, but not essential. Mixing Console: -DiGiCo SD9 mixing console. -Supplementary D-Rack ethernet unit with 32 inputs and 16 outputs. Please note, the default configuration for the D-Rack is 32 x 8. Please check to make sure the console comes with an extra output card on the D-Rack, or a second 32 x 8 unit altogether. -The SD series has many different stage boxes available. The D-Rack is preferred, but in exceptional circumstances, the different rack types can be swapped in. Our entire show is programmed for the DiGiCo SD console series. It is an essential part of the act due to the complexity of our monitor mixes that change from song to song, as well as the routing of the 24-channel audio files we use for backing tracks. If an SD9 is unavailable, it can be substituted for any other SD series console, as long as the stage rack has the appropriate input/output channels and cabling. No other mixing console series is acceptable for our sound engineer to use. Speaker System: -Full-coverage PA system with adequate subwoofers on each side of the stage, plus front fill speakers downstage. -Minimum 4 discrete outputs: Main Left, Main Right, front fills, and Subwoofers. The speaker system should be large enough to fit the needs of the particular venue, and have all necessary stands or rigging. Most rental companies are very good at putting together a speaker system to fit your needs. Preferred speaker brands include: QSC, D&B, EAW, and Meyer. Monitor System: -No onstage band monitors will be needed. We will bring our own wireless IEM units. If the system includes a separate monitor board, we would prefer to bypass it and drive our mixes directly from the SD9. Instruments/Microphones/D.I.s: We travel with all necessary components. No backline is needed. VIDEO: Video: -Our show has a number of video interludes where on-screen characters interact with the live band. A projection system or large-screen video monitor is required as it is made use of extensively during the show. Our video cues will be run from a Mac laptop (VGA, DVI, and HDMI output available), which can be positioned wherever is closest to the video controller. -A cat5 cable connection is required between the front-of-house position and the video control position. -The preferred video setup is to have a large rear-projection screen serving as a backdrop for the stage. -Alternate setup: video screen off to one side of the stage. -An LED video wall is another acceptable video solution. STAGE & OTHER EQUIPMENT: Stands and Accessories: -2 x straight mic stands (for our offstage antenna paddles) -1 x straight, round-base mic stand (for a vocal mic) -2 x tripod-base mic stand with boom arm (for vocal mics) -1 x single guitar stand -1 x single keyboard stand Cables: -1 x ethercon cable (cat6 preferred), long enough to reach from the stage to the FOH mix position (this drives the D-rack unit) -1 x cat5 cable, long enough to reach from FOH to the video control point. -1 x 8-channel XLR sub-snake to run from downstage center to the D-Rack location. -XLR cable: 4 x 25’, 4 x 50’, and any cabling necessary for inter-system connectivity. -Necessary edison cabling for front of house, D-Rack, and video system. Stage Setup: Minimum 24' x 24' stage required for the act. Our three “robots” perform in a line on the downstage side of the stage. The instrument stands (2 guitars and 1 keytar) sit in a line upstage of the robots. The bass and guitar tuning/FX pedals sit on the downstage edge of the stage. The wireless rack, D-Rack, and antenna paddles all live together offstage near the amplifiers for the PA system. Front of House Setup: -The mix position should be on-axis with the main PA speakers. Ideally, it would be positioned at the rear-center of the audience area. Our audio engineer needs to hear what the audience is hearing in order to mix levels accordingly. -Two cables are needed to run from FOH to the stage: the ethercon cable that connects the board to the D-rack unit (two cables required if using two D-Racks), and a cat5 cable run to the video control point. -The SD9 has a footprint of about 3.5' square. Space at FOH is also needed for the playback laptop computer. A six-foot table is ideal. Load-In: -Please allow at least 2 hours for our engineer to load in our equipment. If everything is accounted for and ready to go, this should be more than enough time for them to get everything set. Sound Check: -The more time we have for sound check, the better the show will be for everyone. -Please allow us at least 1.5 hours for sound check. This is separate from any time needed to load in. -No regular audience members are allowed in the performance area during sound check. -Please refrain from any photography, video, and audio recording during our sound check. AIR TRAVEL: -Tickets: Round-Trip Air Travel for Seven (7) -Departing city: San Diego, California -Travel days: The band does not perform on days where they are traveling. Please book flights one day ahead and after performance/event. Hotel stay will be needed for nights in between travel and show days. HOSPITALITY: Transportation: -For events where the band is flying in, we require punctual transportation to shuttle our group and all of our equipment between the event and the airport. We travel with up to seven (7) individuals, and an immense load of equipment. One (1) shuttle bus/van will fit the band and their luggage/equipment, or two (2) SUVs. -Punctual transportation between hotel and event. Hotel: -Rooms booked at a 4-star hotel for the entirety of our stay during the event. -Minimum for hotel rooms: four (4) rooms and six (6) beds in total. Three (3) rooms with two (2) beds and one (1) room with a single bed. As noted, we do travel with seven (7) band members. Handler: -For very large events, a "handler" should be provided to assist the group with navigating the event, ensuring that event scheduling is enforced, and helping out with any problems that may occur. Backstage: Please make ready a green room or comparable private area backstage for the band. Area should include: -Minimum one (1) case of bottled water for use during the show -Chairs and/or couches -Large mirrors -Adequate lighting -Electrical outlets -Table space for makeup, equipment, and personal belongings -Doors or curtains to separate the green room from the rest of the stage. _____________________________________________________ WHAT WE PROVIDE _____________________________________________________ The following lists the relevant equipment we will be bringing for the show. CONTACT INFORMATION: Contact information for our technician and contract personnel will be given in an official tech rider that is tailored to your event. This is a sample tech rider for an out-of-state show. While this sample rider can be used to get a rough idea of the booking needs of the band to put on one of their shows, every event is different.
