The independent Slovak Republic was born a quarter of a century ago – the first democratic state of the Slovaks, of which we can be rightly proud. Slovakia’s story has been anything but straightfor- ward, yet we have come a long way in the past twenty-five years. I can gladly say that Slovakia has been able to make good use of the unique potential of European integration. Over the course of twenty- five years of hard work, we have become a democratic and prosperous country – and a constituent of the safest, freest, most prosperous and best-governed part of the world. On 1st May, Slovakia celebrated 14 years of EU membership. This membership has been a natural homecoming to the family of democratic countries of Europe, from which we, together with other countries in the region, had been ripped out as a result of decisi- ons made by others. Our membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization is also crucial, providing a prerequisite for our prosperity by sharing responsibility for common security. -

ROČNÍK MEDZINÁRODNÉHO KATEDRÁLNY FESTIVALU ORGANOVÝ FESTIVAL BRATISLAVA THE CATHEDRAL ORGAN FESTIVAL BRATISLAVA 2ST YEAR OF THE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL BRATISLAVSKÁ ARCIDIECÉZA NA ORGANE Geralda WOEHLA V Katedrále SV. Martina V Bratislave ON THE ORGAN OF GERALD WOEHL OF ST. Martin Cathedral IN Bratislava MESTO BRATISLAVA 11. AUGUST - 15. SEPTEMBER 2011 ZÁšTITU PREVZAL: MONS. Stanislav Zvolenský – bratislavský ARCIBISKUP metropolita UNDER THE patronage OF MONS. Táto pôvodná posvätná hudba, spev a tanec vznikli z vnuknutia viery, z ktorej pramení radosť z Boha a kreatívna sloboda, v ktorej dominuje Boh dávajúci tejto slobode úplne nový rozmer. Ak sme dnes v umení a správaní na jednej strane svedkami mentality, ktorú azda najlepšie vyjadruje slogan anything goes („všetko je dovolené“), na druhej strane z vlastnej skúsenosti dôverne poznáme bežné aktivity, v ktorých musí jednotlivec, respektíve skupina rešpektovať isté princípy a kánony, aby komunikovali svoje posolstvo jasne, účinne a s dávkou krásy. K takým aktivitám patrí reč, výtvarné a literárne umenie ale i hudba. Ak sa navyše reč, umenie a hudba dotýkajú samotného Boha, prameňa všetkého života a transcendencie, nesú v sebe špecifickú zodpovednosť a stávajú sa žriedlom ozajstnej kultúry, za ktorú vlastne vďačíme kresťanskému kultu upriamenému na Ježiša Krista. -
