The traditional paintings of artists such as Chesley Bonestell, Don Dixon, or Ron Miller are well known and have educated and inspired millions. Since the early 1980's, traditional techniques of illustration have increasingly been replaced as a medium of education by computer generated imagery. (CG) This process has advanced to the point that is now rare to see traditional paintings in the astronomical media. The additional dimension of animation also broadens the visual possibilities available to communicate the latest data and research. The increasingly photo-realistic quality of the CG medium has largely been driven by the demands of Hollywood computer generated special effects and animation. The same technology used to create alien landscapes in Star Wars or Star Trek can just as easily be used to interpret real scientific data in a manner that both explains and entertains. Today it is now possible to create astronomical simulations from scientific data that are so photo-realistic that in immersive projection environments such as Imax, it is possible to believe you are "really there". Chris Ford is currently the RenderMan Business DIrector at Pixar Animation Studios and over his career has managed some of the most important CG software tools used in photo-realistic CG astronomical visualization including Maya, 3ds max, Dynamation, and RenderMan. -

Testa) During the past two decades, child welfare professionals have given kinship care priority as the preferred least-restrictive, most family-like placement option when a child has to be removed from his or her family. Given this preference, the number of children placed in kinship foster care steadily increased during the 1980s and 1990s, leveling off in the 2000s. Although kinship care has received research attention, much of the extant research has focused on kinship foster care and specific issues such as child safety, stability, permanency, and well-being. However, the available literature lacks investigation into what factors drive the decision to use kinship care, specifically an understanding of why some children are diverted from child welfare system (CWS) into unpaid kinship arrangements while other children enter the traditional foster care system. In addition, the literature lacks evidence that would advance the understanding of the short- and long-term effects of this kind of kinship diversion on child outcomes. -

LOVE IS A BATTLEFIELD I HILL & FLANAGAN Love is a Battlefield: Experience of Love in Relation to Depression Laura Hill and Cherisse Flanagan Abilene Christian University Depression is a debilitating mental illness that entails much more than just sadness. In an attempt to discover if there is a relationship between experience of love and depression, a survey was created to assess these variables. The survey included the Experience of Love Questionnaire (ELQ), an author-developed scale, and the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression scale (Radloffi 1977). The ELQ consisted of three subscales measuring experience of love in family, friends, and romantic relationships. The hypothesis of this study was that there would be a negative correlation between experience of love and depression. The survey was completed by 103 participants and the results revealed a correlation between the two variables. -

The effects of an "internal audience" (Zajonc, 1960; Baldwin et al., 1990) and "shared reality" (Hardin and Higgins, 1996) seem to indicate a dialogical nature for cognition and modular structure of the mind, which can be fully described by discursive conceptions, including the theory of the Dialogical Self (Hermans, 1999). This article sets out to describe an empirical attempt to verify one of the basic theses of the theory of the Dialogical Self, according to which each I-position, creates its own Me, being the hero of a specific self-narrative. The experiment using a simplified version of the Baldwin and Holmes’ (1987) procedure showed that life stories created by different I-positions do indeed differ in a range of content-related and formal characteristics, which is in agreement with the theory of the Dialogical Self. Given the results, one may also evaluate various methods of positioning as experimental procedures that differ in their effectiveness. The other’s presence in my mind: A private audience and a shared reality. Contrary to what the above title may evoke, this article is not about persecution delusions but rather about the basic question of social psychology. According to the classic definition, social psychology focuses on the effect that real, imagined, or assumed presence of other people may have on the individual’s thoughts, feelings and behaviour (Allport, 1968). -

It shows that this concept is central to poststructuralist logic discussing the political production of discourses of danger and to scholarship on ontological security but remains subdued in their analytical narratives. Making the concept of the Stranger explicit is important, we argue, because it directs attention to ambivalence as a source of anxiety and grasps the unsettling experiences that political strategies of conquest or conversion, including practices of securitisation, respond to. Against this backdrop, the article provides a nuanced reading of the Stanger as a form of otherness that captures ambiguity as a threat to modern conceptions of identity, and outlines three scenarios of how it may be encountered in interstate -

Introduction An interpersonal relationship is a strong, deep, or close association or acquaintance between two or more people that may range in duration from brief to enduring. This association may be based on inference, love, solidarity, regular business interactions, or some other type of social commitment. Interpersonal relationships are formed in the context of social, cultural and other influences. The context can vary from family or kinship relations, friendship, marriage, relations with associates, work, clubs, neighborhoods, and places of worship. They may be regulated by law, custom, or mutual agreement, and are the basis of social groups and society as a whole. The study of interpersonal relationships involves several branches of the social sciences, including such disciplines as sociology, psychology, anthropology, and social work. Interpersonal skills are vital when trying to develop a relationship with another person. The scientific study of relationships evolved during the 1990s and came to be referred to as 'relationship science', which distinguishes itself from anecdotal evidence or pseudo-experts by basing conclusions on data and objective analysis. Interpersonal ties are also a subject in mathematical sociology. Human beings are innately social and are shaped by their experiences with others. There are multiple perspectives to understand this inherent motivation to interact with others. According to Maslow's hierarchy of needs, humans need to feel love (sexual/nonsexual) and acceptance from social groups (family, peer groups). In fact, the need to belong is so innately ingrained that it may be strong enough to overcome physiological and safety needs, such as children's attachment to abusive parents or staying in abusive romantic relationships. -
