EDITORIALEDITORIAL BLITZ!BLITZ! numéronuméro 1717 La transition entre les années 2015 et 2016 a été marquée par deux décès majeurs dans le monde de la musique moderne et populaire que nous aimons : Ian « Lemmy » Frazer Kilmister, fondateur de Motörhead, et David Bowie, artiste aux talents multiples, ont pris le grand départ pour l’au-delà. Nous avons décidé de consacrer notre dossier à Motörhead, projet musical dont nous admirons la constance affichée pendant quarante ans, et qu’il serait très réducteur d’affubler de la seule étiquette heavy metal. Reportage : MOTORHEAD : Rock'n'Roll bastards MOTORHEAD est à la musique ce que son fondateur est à la médecine : une énigme. En bientôt quatre décennies d’existence, MOTORHEAD a connu tant de revers, de trahisons, de coups bas, d’incompréhension, de changements de line-up, s’est retrouvé à la rue on ne sait combien de fois… que le groupe aurait dû, s’il y avait une réelle logique aux choses, disparaître depuis bien longtemps. Tout comme Lemmy, aux dires du corps médical… La vie en a décidé autrement. 1975. Ian Fraser KILMINSTER, alias Lemmy, retrouve sa terre natale anglaise après s’être fait éjecter de HAWKWIND pour possession de drogues (« des mauvaises drogues », dira-t-il plus tard) lors d’un contrôle douanier à la frontière canadienne. Il en faut plus pour démotiver l’ancien roadie de Jimi HENDRIX qui décide de monter son propre groupe, qu’il souhaite d’abord appeler BASTARDS. Mais un management avisé le persuade qu’avec un tel patronyme, Lemmy ne passera jamais à Top Of The Pops. Le bassiste/chanteur choisi alors le nom de la dernière chanson qu’il a écrite pour HAWKWIND : Motörhead. Le groupe est alors composé, outre son fondateur, du guitariste Larry WALLIS et du batteur Lucas FOX, le trio étant managé Dave EDMUNDS. Ce dernier s’attèle à la promotion de son nouveau poulain et parvient à faire entrer MOTORHEAD dans l’écurie de United Artists. Le trio entre alors en studio pour enregistrer son premier album qui ne satisfait pas le label, United décidant de ne pas commercialiser On Parole.

Lemmy Kilmister Was Born in Stoke-On-Trent
Lemmy Kilmister was born in Stoke-on-Trent. Having been a member of the Rocking Vicars, Opal Butterflies and Hawkwind, Lemmy formed his own band, Motörhead. The band recently celebrated their twenty-fifth anniversary in the business. Lemmy currently lives in Los Angeles, just a short walk away from the Rainbow, the oldest rock ’n’ roll bar in Hollywood. Since 1987, Janiss Garza has been writing about very loud rock and alternative music. From 1989 to1996 she was senior editor at RIP, at the time the World’s premier hard music magazine. Rock Album Discography Last up-date: September 27th, 2021 Rock Album Discography “Music was my first love, and it will be my last” was the first line of the virteous song “Music” on the album “Rebel”, which was produced by Alan Parson, sung by John Miles, and released I n 1976. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.

‘We are Motörhead and we play rock’n’roll .......’ Das ist der übliche Spruch zu Beginn jeder Motörhead Liveshow und dabei kann sich jeder Besucher sicher sein, dass die Show rocken wird. Denn der Anspruch von Motörhead ist während der gesamten Karriere der Band der Selbe geblieben: Nämlich das zu spielen, was sie am besten können und am liebsten machen: knallharten Rock’n‘ Roll. Ihre Version dieser Musik ist angereichert mit einem bisschen Punk, einem Quäntchen Heavy Metal und ihrer wohlbekannten Brachialität mit vielen Dezibels, einem Bass, der im Magen hämmert und einem nahelegt, man hätte besser einen Gehörschutz auf. Und niemand kriegt das so hin wie Ian ‚Lemmy‘ Kilmister (1975 bis heute, Gründungsvater), Phil Campbell an der Gitarre (1984 bis heute) und Mikkey Dee am Schlagzeug (1992 bis heute). „Mich gab es schon vor dem Metal“, sagt Lemmy, „Ich spiele Rock’n‘ Roll und ich denke Rock ’n‘ Roll sollte heilig sein – für mich ist er es. Ich sehe nicht ein, warum er das nicht für jeden anderen auch sein sollte.“ Motörhead war und ist ohne Frage ein bedeutsamer Einfluss für viel, viele andere Bands. Der berühmte „Snaggletooth“, oder auch War Pig genannt, ist eines der wohl bekanntesten Logos auf der Welt. Er ist das zahnreiche Gesicht, das Motörhead symbolisiert. In Zusammenarbeit mit Lemmy kreiert, hat John Petagno dieses ikonische Meisterwerk 1977 als Plattencover für das Debütalbum der Band gezeichnet. Dazu Petagno: Die Idee war ein wütender Bastard zu sein. Und genau so ist Lemmy. Also musste es eine alchemistische Verbindung eher ‚urwüchsiger‘ Natur sein. Ich habe dann viel nach verschiedenen Schädeltypen recherchiert und dann herausgefunden, dass eine Kreuzung aus Gorilla – Wolf und Hund gut mit überdimensionierten Keilerzähnen zusammenpasst.
