FINANCES Membership Drive started on air Monday, August 19 and wrapped on Thursday, September 5. We brought in 60 new members (including individuals, families & businesses). Greg exceeded our projections for Business Challenges and as of today we have deposited over $35,000 for 2019. Stuffing envelopes at DJ meetings was a nice touch. Phone banking was more efficient thanks to lists exported from Salesforce.

Gavin: Switch to salesforce is paying off. Best data yet for the drive. Organized data helped us be more efficient. Will continue to improve with subsequent drives.

Still 18 days this time. Try to get to 14 days but include all DJs in the drive.

Chris: great energy during the drive and after. Kick-ass shows from DJs last week. All DJs shows should have a chance/challenge to participate in drive.

Gavin: Thank you shindig was also kick-ass. Great music, attendance, energy.

We received $1000 Record Club donations from Bridget Badon and Bob Purvis.

Aspen Thrift granted us $3500 for general operating for 2019. Received the check today so the dollar amount is not reflected on the Jan-Aug Budget vs. Actual.

Colorado Media Project grant work continues. Over 300 KDNK members (including businesses) qualified for the 3-month trial of The Sun. We will send invitations via email to this subset of members with a link to opt in to the Sun membership. We have received half of the $5k grant funds so far. I interviewed the editor of The Colorado Sun, Larry Ryckman, on August 29 and will interview reporter Jennifer Brown this week about their newest statewide project.

Classroom rental for a Colorado Mountain College class on American Sign Language is set for Monday nights October 7 through November 25. We are pleased to partner with CMC.

New underwriting is up from Aspen Skiing Company Caring for Community Foundation, for their upcoming 10K Run. Also Thunder River Theatre and Aspen Community Foundation renewed.

New underwriters via Business Challenge Match include: Crystal Valley Environmental Protection Association, Sustainable Settings, The Dog Laundry, Roaring Fork Conservancy, Glenwood Springs Volkswagen, Basalt Library, OSM Delivery, Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, Lucks Digital, and Aspen Art Museum.

New grant applications include: Town of Basalt, Town of Carbondale, Garfield County, Two Rivers Community Foundation and Bristlecone.

Grants committee met September 5.

PROGRAMMING KDNK Music Director Luke Nestler is resigning effective October 5 after Record Sale at Potato Day.

Attended NPR’s annual membership meeting (remotely) and submitted annual NPR member survey. The total cost of NPR programming for the upcoming fiscal year is $12,812. That includes Morning Edition, All Things Considered, Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me, Hidden Brain, and Latino USA. There is a 1% discount if paid in full, but due to cash flow considerations, we will pay quarterly. NPR announced the next CEO will be veteran media executive John Lansing.

I signed the MOU on behalf of RMCR to continue the agreement with KUNC for another year of Capitol Coverage with reporter Scott Franz. (Three of our partner stations made recent internal promotions. KOTO hired Cara Pallone as ED, KBUT hired Jackson Petito as GM, KRCC hired Kyle Cunningham as GM. Meanwhile KVNF and KHEN searches for new GMs continue.)

Aired live remote broadcasts from Village Smithy, Blue Spruce Coffee, and Sopris Park.

On my music show Double Take on September 3, KDNK world premiered new music by DJ Spooky and Stewart Copeland (drummer of The Police).

Next DJ orientation is September 19 at 5:15pm.
