Our Lady of Lourdes, Newent: It was announced in Newent last weekend that Fr Aidan Murray SBD, parish priest at Our Lady of Lourdes in Newent and Blaisdon for the past 22 years has retired with immediate effect for health reasons. Fr Aidan is currently recovering from pneumonia at the Salesian House in Farnborough. As Fr Aidan will not be replaced by another Salesian priest, his retirement brings to an end the Salesian association with Blaisdon and Newent, an association that goes back to the 1930s. From September the pastoral care of Newent and Blaisdon will return to Clifton Diocese. Further details at a later time. Do please keep Fr Aidan in your prayers along with the people of Newent and Blaisdon.

Bishop’s Charitable Fund: This weekend there will be a second collection for The ’s Charitable Fund, which is the annual collection which enables Bishop Declan to respond to the many charitable causes that appeal to him. This money, in a way, is ‘us’ reaching out to the little causes we never hear about. It enables the Bishop to be charitable on behalf of the Diocese and to respond both immediately and at his discretion to those who seek his help.

And Finally: Saints Joachim and Anne (Parents of Our Lady) were part of a long chain of people who had transmitted their faith and love for God, expressed in the warmth and love of family life, down to Mary, who received the Son of God in her womb and who gave him to the world, to us. How precious is the family as the privileged place for transmitting the faith! Pope Francis
