Day Boat Trail

With miles of beautiful river and the gateway to 2 the Southern Broads, the Waveney Valley is the perfect place to explore by boat. 1 This1 full day boat trail will take you from the beautiful historic market town of , up river to . Allow 6.5 hours to complete the trail.

1 Start at Hippersons Boat Yard, Beccles Pick up your day boat from Hippersons Boat Yard in Beccles. Hippersons is a family run boatyard offering moorings and storage for boats, as well as repair and maintenance services. They offer dayboats and houseboats for longer stays as well as a luxury fl oating glamping pod, the fi rst of its kind in the UK. Canoes, kayaks and bikes are also available for hire in high season. ê Leave the boatyard and turn port (left).

ê Go under the road bridge and past the sailing club on the starboard side. You will enter a really beautiful stretch of the river Waveney. Keep an eye out for wildlife: herons, king fi shers, marsh harriers, otters and barn owls can all been seen along this stretch.

ê After approximately half an hour, on your port side, you will see two magnifi cent houses with really beautifully landscaped gardens that fi nish at a purpose built jetty and a boat house that often has a beautiful traditional river cruiser moored.

ê A little further along you will come to the Beccles old railway bridge and it is best to steer through on the port side.

ê Continue on your journey and you will see some stunning scenery for the location and pass by lots of famous reeds in the river (remember to keep the boat out of these as you don’t want to get stuck). Cont... Day Boat Trail cont...

2 Arrive at The Waveney River Centre, Burgh St Peter After approximately 1:45, you will see the entrance to the Waveney River Centre, where you can steer in and moor up. Remember the river is tidal so leave plenty of rope for the boat to go up or down.

At the Waveney River Centre, you can stop and enjoy a pub lunch or a drink at The Waveney Inn and the children can let off some steam in the play area.

ê Keep an eye on your watch. If you leave by 2:15 you will have plenty of time to reverse the trip back to Hippersons Boat Yard.

ê When you reach Hippersons, instead of turning back in to the yard, continue upstream on the River Waveney, passing under the Beccles low bridge.

Immediately you are in what locals like to call the ‘Back Gardens of Beccles’. All of the houses have gardens leading down to the rivers edge, all with their own distinctive character and really interesting to see. The eagle eyed amongst you will notice the remains of where the old railway bridge which used to cross the river.

ê You will glide smoothly past Beccles Lido and the Beccles Rowing Club, before its time to turn around and meander pleasantly back to the old bridge and turn into the yard at Hippersons. Enjoy!
