Chapter Kerala in partnership with IEEE Industry Applications society & IEEE IAS STUDENT BRANCH CHAPTER, NSS COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING PALAKKAD INTRODUCTION The Industry Applications Society, as a transnational organization, is interested in advancement of the theory and practice of electrical and electronic engineering in the development, design, manufacture and application of electrical systems, apparatus, devices, health, and safety issues; creation of voluntary engineering standards and recommended practices; and the professional development of its membership. All Kerala Industrial Applications Society Student Conclave 2019 gives the IAS Student members a golden opportunity to network with a number of IEEE Senior members & experts in the Industrial field, to be mentored by them in their field of interest and explore internship through personal contacts. It helps to take volunteer and leadership roles in the chapter activities, avail travel opportunities and improve their communication skills and confidence levels. The IA/IE/PELS Jt. Chapter Kerala is organizing the first All Kerala IAS Student members meet (AKIASSC 2019) in February 2019 to showcase the benefits of being an IAS student member. Encouraged by the response and success of similar events organised by Computer Society Chapter Kerala, Power & Energy Society Chapter Kerala, IA/IE/PELS Jt. Chapter joint hands with NSS College of Engineering, Palakkad, Kerala for this prestigious event. Proposal for All Kerala Industry Application Society Student Conclave (AKIASSC2019) Page 3 Why AKIASSC? Kerala Section has got the largest number of IAS Student Branch Chapters. The 400 th SB Chapter in the world and the 50 th in India & the 23 rd in Kerala section, the IAS SB Chapter UKF College of Engineering was inaugurated today. Being a successful Section, it has got many features to nourish our innovative ideas. The value of AKIASSC cannot be concluded in few words. Why we need AKIASSC? - Can give answer to question like - How we can exposure our talent? AKIASSC ’19 provide a platform to innovate our mind through Informative Meetings, Seminars, Workshops and exchange of information with the foremost industrial experts. The core aim of conducting AKIASSC19 is to foster technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. By conducting different workshops and meetings with industrial experts, the students can increase their knowledge and technical skills. AKIASSC19 is the best place to show their talents and to develop their technical skills. The 3-day event top up with technical knowledge, managerial activities and an immense platform for networking. The most anticipated first edition of AKIASSC will support professionals engaged in the industries & research institutes of electrical and electronic engineering become a leading provider of scientific and engineering information on industry and its application. The event also provides professional development source for the students. Exposure to real life industries is one of the key elements emphasized in the event outcome. The objective of industrial talk and visit is to enable the students to better visualize what they have learned to the real industrial situations. Students also have the opportunity to see large-scale industrial processes and equipment as well as real engineering practices. The expected outcome of these activities is that student engagement in learning can improve their technical skills and knowledge which will help them in the real technical world. Thus AKIASSC’19 provides a platform for the students to interact with Young Professionals, WiE Professionals, Seniors & industry experts. Proposal for All Kerala Industry Application Society Student Conclave (AKIASSC2019) Page 4 ABOUT IEEE IA/IE/PELS Jt. Chapter Kerala IA/IE/PELS Jt. Chapter, the only Joint chapter in IEEE Kerala Section is now one of the most vibrant and active Society chapters. Industry applications society (IAS), Industrial Electronics Society (IES) and Power Electronics Society (PELS) are the constituent of the join chapter. The Jt. Chapter was established in 2008. After 10 years, with the new Office bearers IAS has got the largest number of members. As on Sept. 23 rd , the Jt. Chapter has 875 members including 109 senior level members, 55 Graduate Student Members & 694 student members . Power Electronics Society with 315 members (12.06% in R10) out of which 237 (9.15% in R10) are student members. The membership growth in 2018 was very remarkable. From the membership count details, it ’s clear that IAS Chapter, Kerala Section, is growing exponentially. Also accounting the same, Kerala chapter is the biggest IAS chapter in the world in terms of number of student branch chapters, and the end results would be an independent IAS Kerala Chapter. About IEEE IAS Student Branch Chapter, NSS College of Engineering Palakkad NSS College of Engineering Palakkad is among the premium engineering institutions in the country established by Nair Service Society in 1960 under Government aided scheme. IEEE Student Branch activities started here in 1987. IEEE IAS Student Branch Chapter started recently and has over 120 enthusiastic members in its core. The student branch is guided by eminently qualified and experienced faculty members. Recently, the branch had also received the award for the most vibrant chapter in the Malabar Sub Section, IEEE Kerala Section. The IAS SB Chapter NSSCE is one of the newly born chapters in Kerala and was inaugurated on 27 th March of 2018. The technical inauguration of the IAS SB Chapter ignited the spirit of volunteering and activities of the branch. ELEKTRA2018 (3 day Technology summit), a 3-day Technology summit was held at College of Engineering, Munnar from 2- 4 March 2018. 5. All rights reserved. …………………………………………………………………………………………………….... Introduction:- The southernmost part of the west of Malabar coast of the peninsular India is known as Kerala. It has been known by different names at different time such as Parasurama Kshetram, Malabar and Keralam. Traditionally Kerala extended from Kokarnum in the north to Capecomerin in the South. But now it stretches from Kasarcode in the north to Parasala in the south. It is bounded on the north by the State of Karnataka, on the south and east by the State of Tamil Nadu on the west by the Arabian sea. Annnamore, Wyndad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Palghat, Trichur, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kottayam, Alleppy, Quilon and Trivandrum are the district in this state. Kerala is not only a thickly populated state in the India subcontinent but also known for its forests, hills, forest and valleys. It is known for teak wood and rubber plantations. As elephants are available in plenty it is popular for ivory works. The Hindus, Christians and Muslims are the three major religious groups and among them the Hindus from a definite majority of about 60%.

    19/03/2021 Negotiating Caste: A Matter of the Public and the Home – Inter-Actions 2020 VOL 2 QTR 4 REFLECTIONS Negotiating Caste: A Matter of the Public and the Home The resurgence of caste cannot be studied without tracing the origins of its negotiations in the early modern phase – not just in the public places, but especially within the confines of the home. In January 2018, tensions built up at the site of an ongoing struggle by Dalit residents in Vadayampady near Kochi. Already for a year, Dalit families in the area had been protesting against a “caste-wall” that was built around a public ground near the Bhajanamadam Bhagavathy temple by the Nair Service Society (NSS). The wall had cut-off access to 95 cents [approx. 41,370 sq. ft] of land that was shared by people in the locality, including Dalits who have inhabited the area since the late 1960s. The same year saw the gruesome murder of Kevin, a twenty-three-year-old Dalit Christian boy by the family of his upper-caste Christian girlfriend, in what has since been considered the first case of honour-killing in modern Kerala. Other cases from the recent past like that of Dalit auto-driver Chitralekha, the lynching of tribal youth Madhu, and the controversy around artist Asanthan’s dead body all suggest that over the last few years, caste has reared its ugly head both in public and private spaces. Although most go unnoticed, some gather enough attention to challenge—even shock—the collective consciousness of a society that has taken secularism and tolerance for granted.

However its coverage has been limited. It has covered only a small portion of the poor children in several states. The total coverage has been about 13 million children in the country in 1978. This has increased to 17 million by the end of 1983. Further there has been no uniformity in organization of school lunch in most of the states. In some states the programme has been limited to certain districts. The school lunch programme has been initiated in Kerala in 1941. The operation of this scheme has spread to all schools by the year 1961-62. Under the scheme, rice or wheat kanji has been given to the children at noon. The present school lunch programme is called Midday Meal Programme (MDM) launched by the Government of India in all states. Under this programme, the entire cost of food grains supplied by the FCI, the cost of transportation of food grains from the godowns of FCI to the schools and the expenditure involved in management, monitoring and evaluation of the scheme are borne by government of India.

    Shyam J. Kamath INDIAN DEVELOPMENT AND POVERTY: MAKING SENSE OF SEN ET AL. ABSTRACT: The work of Amartya Sen and his collaborators on Indian economic development compares three Indian states so as to demonstrate the superior per- formance of interventionist, left-wing governments in West Bengal and Kerala compared to the more typical state of Uttar Pradesh.A careful analysis of the ev- idence, however, shows that Sen et al. ignore the anti-interventionist implications of their own evidence of corruption in the state of Uttar Pradesh; dramatically overstate the success of leftist governments in West Bengal; and overlook the role of Kerala’s culture and its private education system in accounting for its famously high levels of literacy and female independence. Amartya Sen, the Indian-born economist, was awarded the Nobel prize in economics. In the citation for the award, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences () stated that the award was given for Professor Sen’s contributions to welfare economics in the fields of social choice, welfare distribution, and poverty. The Swedish Acad- emy summarized his contributions in this manner: Amartya Sen has made several key contributions to the research in fundamental problems in welfare economics.
