Ohio Ave 614-258-8043 www.dfyf.org Ethiopian Tewahedo Social Services (ETSS After School Program) - Youth in the ETSS After School Program meet 2-3 days a week for a few hours to get homework help, learn about their own and other participants’ language, music and cultural traditions and learn information on health and wellness. Students also get time for exercise and creativity as well as free snacks/meals provided through Children’s Hunger Alliance. After School sites also form Parent Advisory Committees to help parents stay informed and engaged in their child’s education. Service description: Places gang violence intervention specialists in South and East side neighborhoods where 14-24 year-olds stand at high risk of gang involvement. Specialists constructively mediate conflict and mentor and connect youth to positive opportunities. Aims to reduce crime and gang-related violence; keeps youth safe and on-track to healthy, productive lives; encourages youth involvement in work readiness 5 activities, academics or recreation; responds realistically and holistically to the lure of gang life. FRESH Afterschool Initiative - TUTORING SERVICES Service description: Serves approximately 60 eligible middle school students (grades 6-8). The curriculum focuses on academic and life skill development through modulated focus areas. The units within the curriculum include topics surrounding civic engagement, health and wellness, cultural competence, future empowerment, and outdoor education. Students are also provided daily homework assistance, experiential learning opportunities, healthy meals, and door-to-door transportation. Eligibility: Middle school youth.
