Belgrade is getting WasteWater Treatment Plant – signing contract with Chinese company CMEC Belgrade Deputy Mayor Goran Vesic said on Sunday, January 12th, that an agreement on the design, financing and construction of the first phase of a wastewater treatment plant in the Veliko Selo will be signed this week in the Government of the Republic of Serbia. The agreement, he recalled, will be signed with China’s Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) and based on a memorandum of understanding signed in Beijing in 2018 by President Aleksandar Vucic. – Construction of wastewater treatment plant in Belgrade is finally starting. A third of Belgrade has no sewage and all our sewage, without any treatment, flows directly into the Sava and Danube. We have over 100 sewage spills into our rivers. And then one wonders why the city smells bad in the summer when the water levels drop. The wastewater treatment plant in Velika Selo covers an area of 1.5 million inhabitants and, when put into operation, will reduce the direct sewage into the Danube and Sava by about 80% – said Vesic. He added that the new plant would “pick up” all wastewater from the southern part of the city of Sremcica – Zeleznik – Zarkovo – Banovo Brdo – Senjak, the western part of the city of New Belgrade – Zemun and the central part of Old Belgrade. – We are constructing missing collectors, tunnels and pumping stations that will bring the used water to a future wastewater treatment plant at the Veliko Selo site. The project will be implemented in two phases. The value of the first phase is 271,700,000 euros and the realization of the money was secured through an interstate agreement between the Republic of Serbia and the People’s Republic of China. In the first phase, we are building missing parts of the Interceptor, with a section of the Ambulance – Venizelosova tunnel. We will reconstruct the sewage pumping station “Mostar”, which will pump wastewater from the southern part of the city, the Zeleznik sub-basins, Banovo brdo, Topcider and Senjak, and construct a sewage pumping station “Usce – Nova” with a siphon about 500 meters in diameter Fi 4000 under the Sava River, which will pump wastewater from the western part of the city, New Belgrade and Zemun, to the Interceptor connection. We are also building the first phase of the Veliko Selo Wastewater Treatment Plant with mechanical treatment, which involves pumping and purification on coarse and fine grilles, sand removal, suspended matter and grease in aerated sand traps – explained the Deputy Mayor. He said that in the second phase, which has not yet been contracted, the wastewater treatment plant will receive primary treatment, which includes the separation of sludge in the primary sedimentation tanks and secondary treatment, which will include biological removal of nitrogen and phosphorus by advanced activated sludge processes such as and the separation of sludge in secondary sedimentation tanks, and that tertiary treatment is possible in the future, given the tightening of regulatory requirements. Vesic announced that Belgrade will build four smaller wastewater treatment plants, or 20% that will not be treated in Veliko Selo, and explained that these are significantly smaller plants that the city can finance itself, eKapija reports. Belgrade is getting WasteWater Treatment Plant – signing contract with Chinese company CMEC – We are just designing a wastewater treatment plant in Batajnica and we are negotiating with the European Investment Bank on the design and construction of wastewater treatment plants in Ostruznica and Obrenovac, as well as on the construction of sewage in Kaludjerica. For the first time in history, Belgrade will treat its wastewater and will not destroy the two rivers and its inhabits. That is why these are good days for Belgrade, not only for ecology but also for the health of our citizens. This year is good for eco-friendly Belgrade because it started with the abolition of plastic bags, and in the first month we are signing a contract for the construction of a wastewater treatment plant – Vesic said..
