Lime and tangerine zest and a spicy, lightly smoky note suggest a hint of exotic over-ripeness, and while the wine is refreshing, there is a hint of minerality to its texture, pronounced fruit skin intensity of gooseberry and peach 2018 Luiz Seabra Xisto Ilimitado Branco, Douro, Portugal 3rd Corner Retail Price $25.99 Wine Club To-Go $22.09 After a decade as Niepoort’s winemaker, Luis Seabra followed his own star to craft wines using minimal intervention, and the result here is a world-class offering. A blend of 30- to 45-year-old Rabigato (50%), Codega (20%), Gouveio (15%), and Viosinho grown on mica schist 1650 1950 feet above sea level, Seabra’s Xisto Ilimitado casts a brilliant straw gold from the glass followed by aromas of smoky schist-infused pear, yellow plum, and white currant fruit. Performing akin to a premier cru white Burgundy on the palate, the Xisto Ilimitado fuses a pure orchard fruit expression with subtle barrel notes, all buoyed by a persistent mineral undercurrent. Juicy, pure, and utterly delicious, the wine finishes with a haunting floral suggestion of sweet gardenia blossom. Enjoy this delicious taste of the Douro now and over the coming three years as you would a fine Chablis 2018 Domaine Les Gryphées Beaujolais Cuvée Les Balmes, Burgundy, France 3rd Corner Retail Price $13.99 Wine Club To-Go $11.89 In local patois, a “balmes” is a slope. This steeply graded vineyard was planted nearly 100 years ago, its ancient vines producing a handful of bunches each vintage. But what a treasure in Beaujolais! Excellent terroir (a mix of limestone, clay and the classic “pierres dorees,” the mineral-rich, golden chalk that characterizes much of Beaujolais) plus very old vines places this anything-but-simple Beaujolais Rouge in cru territory. Aromas of red and purple flowers, cherries and red plums. Light baking spice, pepper with smooth tannins and a medium-body make this a great Gamay. 2017 Ver Sacrum GSM Los Chacayes, Uco Valley, Argentina 3rd Corner Retail Price $17.99 Wine Club To-Go $15.29 91 Points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate This wine is a field blend of 70% Grenache Noir, 15% Monastrell, and 15% Syrah all co-fermented. The nose is earthy and muddled with hints of blackberry and cherry luden with under notes of forest floor, fungi, tea leaf, thyme, and candied leather. The palate is juicy and lush with black fruits, currant, and fine grained tannins that lead to a light finish of clove and cinammon. Started in 2012, Ver Sacrum focuses on Rhône varietals and strive to make fresh, lower alcohol wines, fermented with native yeast, hand harvested and foot trod. 2017 Domaine du Bel Air "les Vingt lieux dits" Bourgueil, , France 3rd Corner Retail Price $18.99 Wine Club To-Go $16.14 A perfect every-day Cab Franc. No "green" notes to fear on this lovely wine. 2016 Young Inglewood VENN, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, California Regulary $50 3rd Corner Retail Price $35.99 Wine Club To-Go $30.59 A powerful and integrated blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cab Franc, 6% Merlot, 5% Malbec and 1% Petit Verdot. Stylistically, VENN is a ready-to-drink expression of classic Napa Valley Cabernet with a fruit forward profile that emphasizes soft black fruits such as blueberries, blackberries, black plums and black cherries. Tannins are smooth and balanced for structure. Take a sip, and you will be rewarded by the enticing flavors of mocha, warm baking spices and freshly picked blackberries. This is a mind-boggling wine made with fruit coming from the coveted benchland nestled up against the Mayacamas in the southwestern reaches of the St. Helena appellation. First planted in the late 1870s, and, except during Prohibition, it has been almost continuously under vine ever since. VENN is an absolute steal at this price with less than 9 barrels made! 2017 Realm Cellars The Bard Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, California Regularly $165 3rd Corner Retail Price $119.99 Wine Club To-Go $101.99 Bright, juicy red and black fruit with pronounced raspberry tones in the mix. There’s a nerviness to the vintage that brings energy to the wine. The Bard in 2017 is very aromatic, with good extraction and precision. The oak journey over the palate is smooth and pleasing. Realm Cellars has made this Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated blend since 2003, their tribute to the great wines of Bordeaux’s Left Bank. The Bard is composed from fruit from Coombsville to Calistoga, a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated wine that consistently punches above its weight. 2017 was the second vintage at Realm's estate winery in the Stags Leap District, and the extra control Benoit and the team gained in the cellar shows in the wine. This year the final blend ended up being 87% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Merlot.
