CNEWSLaETTsERt Ol F TeHE GGENEAeLOnGY CiLUeB Passaic County Historical Society, Lambert Castle, Valley Road, Paterson, 07503 BAPTISMS OF WEST MILFORD PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH 1819 – 1908 A Brief History of the Church On May 15th 1806, a few inhabitants of “Long Pond Settlement & Vicinity” met and drew up articles of agreement for the building of a “Presbyterian Meeting House.” In 1818, the original meeting house was taken down with a new one erected on the site. A year later in 1819, it organized as the Presbyterian Church. On February 21, 1842, the church burned to its foundation and a was rebuilt in December of the same year. The church remained unchanged until 1956 when the sanctuary was enlarged and a wing was added. Still on its same foundation, the original church stands today at 1452 Union Valley Road, West Milford, NJ much as it did in 1807. We hope everyone has an enjoyable Summer, and Having been born in Paterson and raised in Clifton, I’ve look forward to seeing you in September. Mark always been interested in local history, so I was very excited your calendar for our meetings in the 2003-2004 when I learned the Historical Society was looking for a librarian . I used the library here years ago to do my own genealogical year. research, and I actually did some work here as a Rutgers graduate student back in 1996. Saturday, September 13, 2003 After getting my Masters in Saturday, October 11, 2003 Library Services from Rutgers, I Saturday, November 8, 2003 worked as the Head of Information Saturday, December 13, 2003 Services at Exxon and then moved Saturday, January 10, 2004 on to become a Knowledge Analyst Saturday, February 14, 2004 for Novartis Pharmaceuticals. I was a part-time reference librarian at Saturday, March 13, 2004 Ramapo College and currently a Saturday, April 10, 2004 part-time reference librarian at Saturday May 8, 2004 William Paterson University where I’ve been since 1986. My thanks to Cindy Burns, Kathleen Grimshaw-Haven, William I continue to do my own Serchak, and George Van Riper who all contributed material for genealogical research, staying up this issue of “The Castle Genie” to date by attending various genealogical seminars, and I’m Maryjane Proctor, Editor always on the look-out for a new Web resource. My hope is to organize our library and archival materials in a way that will make them more accessible and easier to use for both genealogists and local historians.

Guest Speakers at our April Meeting, Charles Eckhardt, in Civil Architectural Historian, Clifford Zink, presented “Dutch Building War Uniform and Bob MacAvoy presented “Our Brothers Gone Traditions in New Jersey” at our March meeting. Before”, New Jerseys Civil War Veterans.
