The sophomore duo of Jake Brophy and Kevin Murray showed off their potential in 2016 immediately as they came out of the gate at the Salisbury Fall Classic and finished back-to-back with Brophy coming in first and Murray second. Brophy competed with great consistency throughout his freshman season and was amongst Navy’s top-five finishers in seven of eight events. In consecutive events, the Star Meet and Patriot League Championship, he recorded top-10 overall results with a third versus Army and a ninth at the conference meet. Following the season-opening Salisbury Classic, Murray competed four more times last fall with a ninth-place finish versus Army and an 11th-place result at the Patriot League Championship leading the way. For their top-14 results at the Patriot League Championship, Brophy, Murray and Donley all garnered Second Team All-Patriot League nods last fall. The Navy squad welcomes a host of newcomers to the program in 2017 with Quinn Schneider and Ben Cracraft leading the way this preseason. Schneider joins the Mids after a standout cross country and track & field career in the Charlotte, N.C. area. In North Carolina state championship action, he won both the 2015 and 2016 NCISAA 1A State Championships after finishing runner-up in 2014 as a sophomore. Cracraft honed his skills in Michigan and garnered all-conference, all-county and all-state honors following his junior and senior seasons.

During the 2016-17 academic year, Patriot League Women’s Swimming & Diving | Men’s Indoor Track & Field student-athletes and teams accomplished the following: Baseball (Regular Season) | Men’s Outdoor Track & Field H 97 Patriot League teams (45.8 percent of League teams) earned NCAA Public Women’s Lacrosse (Tournament) | Women’s Rowing Recognition Awards for ranking in the top 10 percent of their sport in Academic Progress Rate (APR), with a Patriot League record 84 squads earning perfect COACH OF THE YEAR (5) scores. Al Cantello (Men’s Cross Country) Rich MacDonald (Diving) H The Patriot League ranked second among all conferences in Public Recognition John Morrison (Women’s Swimming) Awards, and tied for the national lead with the Ivy League for the highest percentage Stephen Cooksey (Men’s Indoor Track & Field) of teams earning the honor at 45.8%. Laren Barber – Swimmer of the Meet (Women’s Swimming) H American’s Natalie Konerth (Field Hockey) and Navy’s Ryan Bailey (Men’s Bradley Buchter – Diver of the Meet (Men’s Diving) Swimming) were named the Corvias Patriot League Female and Male Scholar- Travis Blue – Player of the Year (Baseball) Athlete of the Year honorees, respectively. Kyle Condry – Pitcher of the Year (Baseball) Chris Fennell – Defensive Player of the Year (Men’s Lacrosse) H 11 student-athletes earned Capital One Academic All-America recognition, including Jenna Collins – Midfielder of the Year (Women’s Lacrosse) first-team accolades for Bucknell’s Luke Giugliano (Men’s Track & Field) and Kendall Ham (Women’s Soccer) Lehigh’s Micah Tennant (Football), Navy’s Ryan Bailey ROOKIE OF THE YEAR (4) (Men’s Swimming) and Ryan Speir (Men’s Cross Country) Delaney Walz (Women’s Swimming) Zach Jennings (Men’s Tennis) H Two Patriot League student-athletes earned NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships, Cameron Hurd (Men’s Outdoor Track & Field) including Navy’s Bailey and Nate Gainey (men’s track and field) and two earned Kelly Larkin (Women’s Lacrosse) Fulbright Scholarships, including American’s Shannon Scovel (Women’s Swimming) and Holy Cross’s Samantha Speroni (Women’s Track and Field) SPORT SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR (4) H 43 Patriot League student-athletes received Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All- Patricia Mattingly (Volleyball) District recognition. Ryan Speir (Men’s Cross Country) Ryan Bailey (Men’s Swimming & Diving) H There were a Patriot League record 2,899 student-athletes on the Patriot League Thomas Pecor (Men’s Tennis) Academic Honor Roll in 2016-17. OVERALL SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR (1) H Holy Cross’s Anthony Critelli (Baseball) won the Senior CLASS Award for baseball Ryan Bailey (Men’s Swimming & Diving) and was one of five Patriot League finalists for the award, along with Bucknell’s Brett Smith (Baseball), Lehigh’s Tim Kempton (Men’s Basketball) and Justin Worley (Men’s Soccer) and Navy’s Adrian Chinnery (Baseball), H Navy won the Corvias Patriot League Presidents’ Cup for the fourth straight time and fifth in the last six years.
