Die Verbreitung der ober- liassischen marinen Krokodilier, die derjenigen des Ammoniten Bouleiceras iihnelt, weist auf die Existenz einer epikontinentalen Seestraf~e vonder Tethys fiber die transerythr~iische Provinz bis zum siidlichen Tell Afrikas; diese Seestral~e bildete eine Verbindung zwischen Westeuropa und Siidamerika. A b s t r a c t : A fragment of the upper jaw of a crocodilian from the Toarcian of NW Madagascar is refer- red to Steneosaurus sp. (family Teleosauridae). It is the earliest known crocodilian from Madagascar. It indi- cates faunal relationships with western Europe and South America. The distribution of late Liassic marine crocodilians, similar to that of the ammonite Bouleiceras, suggests the existence of an epicontinental seaway from the Tethyan region to the southern part of Africa via the Transerythrean Province, which provided a marine connection between western Europe and South America. This paper concerns thè conclusive researchs on Pliensbachian Phyllo- ceratina from Italy, among which thè genera Geyeroceras Hyatt, 1900 and Partschiceras Fucini, 1923 were already investigated (Fantini Sestini, 1969, 1971). The fossils were collected in stratigraphic sections from Selva di Zandobbio and Alpe Turati in Lombar- dy and from thè M. Nerone area in thè centrai Apennines. They consist of internai moulds and complete shells. The family Juraphyllitidae is present with genera: Jura- phyllites Miiller, Meneghiniceras Hyatt, Harpophylloceras Spath e Galaticeras Spath. Only four genera of Pliensbachian age can be attributed to thè fam. Phylloceratidae; they are as follows: Phylloceras Suess, 1865 with thè two subgenera Phylloceras s.s. e Zetoceras Kovacs, 1939. Test with ornaments visible at low magnification; internai mould smooth, section elliptical, ovai or sublanceolate; E/L and L/U with or without phylloids (minor subdivisions of folioles). Partschiceras Fucini, 1923 ( = Procliviceras Fucini, 1923; Phyllopachyceras Spath, 1925). Test with well distinct riblets, sometimes with ribs and periumbilical ridges; inter nai mould with weak constrictions in thè inner whorls and with very weakly outlined ornaments on thè venter; E/L with phylloids; Hantkeniceras Kovacs, 1939 (= Calaiceras Kovacs, 1939). Test smooth; internai mould smooth with rare weak nearly straight constrictions; L/U with 2/3 folioles jointed at their base. Calliphylloceras Spath, 1927. Test with very well developed riblets along with strong rounded ribs; internai mould smooth with 4 to 8 deep arcuate constrictions; L/U with 2 folioles jointed at their base. -

Abstract: Substantial numbers of the nautilid Cenoceras occur in a stratigraphically limited horizon within the upper part of the Lower Jurassic (Sinemurian Stage) Blue Lias Formation at Watchet on the West Somerset Coast (United Kingdom). Individual nautilid conchs are associated with clusters of encrusting organisms (sclerobionts) forming ‘islands’ that may have been raised slightly above the surrounding substrate. Despite the relatively large numbers of nautilid conchs involved, detailed investigation of their preservation suggests that their accumulation reflects a reduction in sedimentation rates rather than an influx of empty conches or moribund animals. Throughout those horizons in which nautilids are present in relative abundance, the remains of ammonites are subordinate or rare. The reason for this unclear, and preferential dissolution of ammonite conchs during their burial does seem to provide a satisfactory solution to the problem. -

Wien, Serie A 112 613-626 Wien, Juni 2010 Barremian ammonoids from Serre de Bleyton (Drôme, SE France) By Alexander LUKENEDER (With 4 figures) Manuscript submitted on September 18th 2009, the revised manuscript on December 7th 2009 Abstract Barremian ammonoids were collected at the Serre de Bleyton locality in the Department Drôme, SE France. The cephalopod fauna from the “coulées boueuses”, correlated with other macrofossil groups (belemnitoids, brachiopods, crinoids, echinoids etc.) and microfossil data (foraminifera) from the turbiditic unit, indicates Barremian age. The deposition of the allodapic limestones and marls in this interval occurred during depositionally unstable conditions which led to the forma- tion of turbiditic layers. The ammonoid fauna comprises 8 different genera, each apparently represented by a single spe- cies. The assemblage at the Serre de Bleyton section is dominated by ammonoids of the Melchior- ites-type. Ammonitina are the most frequent component (Melchiorites 52%; Holcodiscus 8%), followed by the Phylloceratina (Phyllopachyceras 3% and Hypophylloceras 2%), the Lytoceratina (Protetragonites 15%), and the Ancyloceratina (Anahamulina 10%, Karsteniceras 8% and Mac- roscaphites 2%). En el presente trabajo se reporta por primera vez una fauna de amonites (Paltechioceras cf. mexicanum, P. rothpletzi, Ortechioceras incaguasiense, Coroniceras? (Metophioceras) aff. conybeari auct., Phylloceras sp., Sulciferites? cf. stenorhynchus) e isocrínidos bentónicos (Isocrinidae) y pseudoplanctónicos (Pentacrinitidae). Estos últimos representan nuevos registros para sedimentos sinemurianos de México. Se consideran los supuestos hábitos de vida para las familias a las que pertenecen las especies de amonites, como dato de referencia sobre el ambiente de depósito. En este afloramiento también se encuentra el bivalvo Posidontis semiplicata y un gasterópodo no identificado. Hay tres tipos de asociaciones fósiles que se encuentran repetidamente en las capas del afloramiento Temapá, perteneciente a la Formación Despí, de tal forma que es posible reconocerlas (1) por la diferencia de diámetro de los amonites que las componen; (2) por la diferente composición faunística entre ellas, que se demuestra con la aplicación del índice de Simpson; y (3) por el grado de fragmentación de las conchas. -
A New Early Jurassic Marine Locality from Southwestern Chubut Basin, Argentina

A shallow marine invertebrate association is reported from a new Early Jurassic locality namely La Casilda, which is situated in the southwestern region of the Chubut Basin (Patagonia, Argentina). The marine deposits of La Casilda are located in the Río Genoa valley and bear a diverse invertebrate fauna including bivalves, gastropods, brachiopods, echinoderms and corals. A preliminary taxonomic analysis of the invertebrate fauna suggests that La Casilda deposits belong to the Mulanguiñeu Formation of late Pliensbachian-early Toarcian age, and may be coeval with those from the marine localities previously sampled in other regions of the Río Genoa valley. The preliminary results of a biodiversity analysis displayed that La Casilda is one of the most diverse localities at the Chubut Basin and could be assigned to the biofacies at the mixed siliciclastic-carbonate ramp proposed for the marine Early Jurassic at the Andean Basin of northern Chile. The evolution of the marine transgression during the early Pliensbachian-early Toarcian is also interpreted here in a time scale based on ammonite faunas, giving a preliminary temporal reconstruction of the entire Chubut Basin. The late Triassic and early Jurassic succession at Southam Cement Works, Warwickshire Jonathan D. Radley Abstract. Southam Cement Works Quarry, Long Itchington, exposes beds ranging from the Cotham Member of the late Triassic Lilstock Formation up into the Rugby Limestone Member of the early Jurassic Blue Lias Formation. The lithologies and fauna are described and interpreted in the context of Triassic and Jurassic palaeoenvironmental change.
