It is the ambition of our parent company, Danish Technological Institute, and its group of subsidiaries to be ‘best in class’, and the motto for the whole organization is ‘good is not enough’. Due to the crossed electrical and magnetic fields in the Wien filter, the spins of the muons rotate when the particles travel through the device, while the trajectory follows an undisturbed straight line for muons of the same energy. Muons are used as light hydrogen analogs for solid state studies and biological studies, or for probing magnetic properties of magnetic materials.

Gas filled magnet for ANSTO in Australia

In order to separate out ions of different elements with the same mass and energy, gas filled magnets are often used. The Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) has awarded Danfysik a contract on a 9 ton, 160o gas filled spectrometer magnet with a gap of 57 mm, a bending radius of 660 mm and a maximum field of 1.3 T for accelerator mass spectrometry applications. The magnet has been successfully tested and will be shipped in late spring 2012.
