    Press release Montsoreau, December 29, 2020 The Château de Montsoreau - Museum of Contemporary Art joins the Great Heritage Sites of the Loire Valley. Five years after its opening to the public, the Château de Montsoreau- Museum of contemporary art has become the 23rd site to join the network of the UNESCO Great Heritage Sites of the Loire Valley, alongside the châteaux of Chenonceau, Chambord, Cheverny and Blois, Chaumont-sur-Loire, Villandry, Langeais, Chinon, Sully-sur-Loire, Brissac, Brézé, Valençay, Loches, Saumur, Angers, Amboise, Azay-le-Rideau, Dukes of Brittany, Rivau, Clos Lucé, the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud and the Cadre Noir of Saumur. Founded in 2016 by the collector Philippe Méaille, the Château de Montsoreau - Museum of Contemporary Art is located in one of the jewels of French architecture: the only Château of the Loire Valley built in the Loire riverbed, made famous by many artists including J.M.W Turner and Alexandre Dumas. The Château de Montsoreau - Museum of Contemporary Art relies on a permanent collection which includes the world’s largest collection of artworks by the artists of Art & Language. "Since its opening, the Château de Montsoreau - Museum of Contemporary Art has taken on the radical nature of its positioning within the Châteaux of the Loire Valley, the polemical and corrosive nature of contemporary art making it a laboratory of modernity from the outset,” declares Marie-Caroline Chaudruc, Vice-President. Attendance at the Museum of Contemporary Art has increased steadily and in 2019 reached 52,000 visitors. Driven by a desire for international development and networking, the Château de Montsoreau - Museum of Contemporary Art shares the approach of excellence that has characterized the network of the Great Heritage Sites of the Loire Valley since 2008.

    The only château in the Loire Valley built in the riverbed itself, the Château de Montsoreau was commissioned by Jean II de Chambes, a close advisor to King Charles VII, in 1450. Many famous figures have left their mark on its history, such as Mary, Queen of Scots, Anne of Brittany, Claude of France, Henry IV of France and Francis I. Its avant-garde architecture has inspired artists from Rodin to Turner and writers from Flaubert to Alexandre Dumas. Transformed into a contemporary art museum and opened in April 2016, the Château de Montsoreau is a new art venue just two hours from Paris in the Loire Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage listed area. Stretching for more than 2,000 m², it boasts a permanent collection of artworks linked to the Art & Language movement, and is believed to be the world’s largest collection of works by this group of artists involved in the founding of Conceptual Art. A unique renaissance Owned by the Regional Council of Maine and Loire, in 2015 the building passed into the hands of the collector Philippe Méaille, who planned to instigate a programme of restoration prior to exhibiting the works in his collection. Six months of intensive installation work, in partnership with Bâtiments de France association, returned the château to its former glory. COMMUNICATING THE APPROVAL OF A STANDARD AMENDMENT ‘Coteaux de Saumur’ PDO-FR-A0179-AM01 Date of communication: 13 November 2019 DESCRIPTION OF AND REASONS FOR THE APPROVED AMENDMENT 1. Geographical name ‘Supplementary geographical name’ has been reduced to ‘geographical name’ in Chapter I points II and XII(2)(b). A number of the product specifications for Loire Valley wines allow the use of what is known as the ‘eponymous geographical designation’ — ‘Val de Loire’ — to refer to this wider region. The use of this term on wine labels is subject to specific rules laid down in those product specifications. As the term ‘supplementary geographical name’ is also used in some cases to denote smaller geographical units with more restrictive production conditions, the word ‘supplementary’ has been removed in order to prevent confusion. Point 9 of the Single Document, ‘Further conditions’, has been amended accordingly. 2.     SAUMUR BLANC “LES MOULINS DE TURQUANT” TECHNICAL INFORMATION Country France Region Loire Sub-Region Saumur Producer Couly-Dutheil Vintage 2018 Composition 100% CHENIN BLANC WINEMAKER NOTES Since 1921, Couly-Dutheil has been well known for the quality of its wines served at the most prestigious tables in France. Established by Baptiste Dutheil, then developed by René Couly who married Madeleine Dutheil, the House of Couly-Dutheil has become over the years the great name for Chinon. Today, Couly- Dutheil remains a family house owned by the third and fourth generation. The Chinon region has all the qualities of the greatest soils. Its semi-oceanic climate is exceptionally mild and benefits of long sunny periods. The variety of soils and their particular qualities allows the cabernet-franc (98% of the vineyard) to express all its fineness and its celebrated "taffetas" within a range of strong personalities. TASTING NOTES Lovely pale yellow color. Nice and clean Bouquet dominated by fruity (agruma) and floral aromas. Dry wine, refreshing, fruity, & harmonious mouth. PAIRING SUGGESTIONS Recommended with prawn/langostine salad, shellfish dishes and grilled fish with sauce. VINEYARD Limestone, south east of Saumur in Turquant Village. Semi-oceanic type suitable for the cultivation of the vine. Environmental grassing between rows to encourage the limitation of yields and erosion. Leaf removal, trellising and harvest green to optimize the maturity and quality of grapes.
