Speight’s Coast to Coast MULTISPORT Compulsory Kayak Gear List

Your kayak must have two bulkheads (sea kayak) OR 2 x large airbags (composite race kayaks) Spraydeck Buoyancy Aid Helmet Paddle Booties Paddle Jacket – long sleeve Repair Tape First Aid Kit Survival Bag (not a blanket) Appropriate thermal clothing to be worn while in the kayak Spare thermal clothing to be carried in a dry bag (gloves, hat, long sleeved top, long john bottoms, light weight fleece or similar) Waterproof pants Food & drink Rescue throwbag

You will need all this gear when you take your Grade Two assessment. We strongly recommend a spare (split) paddle for race day, it is easy it is to lose your paddle if you take a swim. Jet boats carry spare paddles but you may be hanging around for a long time waiting for them to arrive!

The 2015 race was a classic example of how cold it can be on race day. The air temperature was about 10 degrees on the river and there were a lot of very cold people.
