The study site measures approximately 13ha in size, situated at general development co-ordinate S32°17’10.3”; E27°09’21.3”. Development will comprise of the construction of 306 residential units and relevant infrastructure. ArchaeoMaps was appointed by Gibb to conduct the Phase 1 AIA for the proposed development. THE PHASE 1 ARCHAEOLOGICAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT - PROJECT AREA: Kati-Kati Housing Project, (Portion of) Erf 633, Kati-Kati, (near Cathcart), Amahlathi Local Municipality, Eastern Cape [1:50,000 map ref – 3227AC]. COVERAGE & GAP ANALYSIS: Pre-feasibility and field assessment (approximate 13ha surface area). FIELD METHODOLOGY: One day field assessment; GPS co-ordinates – Garmin GPSmap 62s; Photographic documentation – Pentax K20D. Site significance assessment – SAHRA 2007 system. SUMMARY: Map Code Site Co-ordinates Recommendations Kati-Kati Housing Project (S32°17’10.3”; E27°09’21.3) No archaeological or cultural heritage resources, as defined and protected by the NHRA 1999, were identified during the Phase 1 AIA of the Kati-Kati Housing Project. RECOMMENDATIONS – With reference to archaeological and cultural heritage compliance, as per the requirements of the NHRA 1999, it is recommended that the proposed Kati-Kati Housing Project, (Portion of) Erf 633, Kati-Kati, (near Cathcart), Eastern Cape, proceeds as applied for, without any additional heritage requirements on behalf of the developer. The developer will need to adhere to any legislative compliance requirements, constraints or particulars that may be imposed on the development by the EC PHRA. Development Location, Details and Impact The approximate 13ha Kati-Kati Housing Project study site is situated on (Portion of) Erf 633 of Kati-Kati, approximately 1.45km from Cathcart, in the Amahlathi Local Municipality, Eastern Cape [1:50,000 map ref – 3227AC]. The R351 runs along the northern and western boundaries of the site. The southern boundary has access to the road of the existing Kati-Kati township, bordering the township on its eastern boundary line (Gibb 2014). The study site was originally zoned as farmland, but it has been subdivided and rezoned as a residential area in November 2001: The site is as yet undeveloped and vacant land. The land slopes to the east with grass and small trees forming the basic vegetation, with some portions being used as grazing for livestock (Gibb 2014). The project will comprise of 2 main components (Gibb 2014): o The first component will be the construction of 306 residential houses and internal and external access roads. o The second component constitutes the installation of

Stenoglottis fimbriata subsp. saxicola and S. zambesiaca are synonymised here with S. fimbriata, S. modesta is reduced in rank to S. fimbriata var. modesta and S. molweniensis is synonymised with S. longifolia. The three spurred species, S. inandensis, S. woodii and S. macloughlinii, are retained. We include revised descriptions, diagnoses and a morphological key, in which characteristics of the floral spurs, labella, leaves, bracts, and auricles contribute most clearly to distinguishing the taxa. Distributions maps and photos showing important diagnostic characters and morphological variation are also presented. Introduction Stenoglottis Lindley (1837: 209) is a small genus of orchids endemic to continental Africa, with a distribution extending from its centre of diversity in the summer rainfall regions of eastern South Africa to the southern highlands of Tanzania.

The objective is to determine whether there is a contribu- tion from government departments and the local development agency and how infra- structure development enhances economic activity in the area. The research findings suggest that the various spheres of government do not co-ordi- nate well when it comes to planning in the Keiskammahoek area. Funding is there through Municipal Infrastructure Grant Programmes and other funds, but it is not always used. There is potential forthis small town to be a tourist destination, but more infra- structure development for this area need to be prioritised.
