Architectural transformations on the Market Square in Krakow A systematic visual catalogue Jean-Yves BLAISE Iwona DUDEK Different faces of one ‘idea’ Section three, presents a selection of analogous examples (European public use and commercial buildings) so as to help the reader weigh to which extent the layout of Krakow’s marketplace, as well as its architectures, can be related to other sites. Market Square in Krakow is paradoxically at the same time a typical example of medieval marketplace and a unique site. But the frontline between what is common and what is unique can be seen as “somewhat fuzzy”. Among these examples readers should observe a number of unexpected similarities, as well as sharp contrasts in terms of form, usage and layout of buildings.

A CENTURY OF SHOCKS: THE EVOLUTION OF THE GERMAN CITY SIZE DISTRIBUTION 1925 - 1999 E. The first major contribution of this paper is to provide empirical evidence on the evolution and structure of the West-German city size distribution. Using a unique annual data set that covers most of the 20th century for 62 of West-Germany's largest cities, we look at the evolution of both the city size distribution as a whole and each city separately. The West-German case is of particular interest as it has undergone major shocks, most notably WWII. Our data set allows us to identify these shocks and provide evidence on the effects of these `quasi-natural experiments' on the city size distribution. The second major contribution of this paper is that we perform unit-root tests on individual German city sizes using a substantial number of observations to analyze the evolution of the individual cities that make up the German city size distribution. Our main findings are twofold. First, WWII has had a major and lasting impact on the city size distribution.

Pressemitteilung Recklinghausen, im Mai 2019 Kunstausstellung der Ruhrfestspiele 2019 Penny Hes Yassour Temp-Est Kunsthalle Recklinghausen 5. Mai – 14. Seit 2000 lehrt sie an der Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem. 1999 gewann sie den Arnold Bode Preis der documenta X in Kassel, 2000 den Preis der Gottlieb Foundation New York und 2009 den zu ersten Mal vergebenen Prize for Excellency in the Arts in Israel.

GfK’s study “GfK Retail Turnover 2018” forecasts a 2018 turnover volume of €419.7 bil. for Germany’s stationary retail trade. This equates to a slight nominal increase of one percent compared to the previous year. Many factors impact whether more money in real terms is available to retail. Industry-specific challenges such as trends in commodity and wholesale prices and especially the growth of online trade play an important role in this regard.
