Tahlia Giannopoulas, of Melbourne, Australia Hi, My name is Tahlia Giannopoulas, I am 12 years old and I live in Melbourne, Australia. I discovered the art of quilling when I went on a cruise, I attended a few lessons and then bought some mini quilling kits they had. After making as many cards as I could with the quilling kit I went on the internet and discovered more. It wasn’t long before I started buying strips and supplies on the internet. After that I started making cards and more cards. Everybody I showed my cards to loved them, after a while I started getting orders. So then I thought I might as well come up with a business name which I now call Tahlia's QC. I joined a few quilling clubs and I made lot's of quilling friends that I often email. In 2006 at Christmas I sold 50 cards. This year I plan to double that. One day when walking through the streets I discovered this shop called " Inspired By You". It is a great shop that sells beautiful papers and other craft items. After showing the manager my quilling I will hopefully soon get to sell my cards there. My quilling is not the most spectacular thing around but over time it will get better and I hope that it will take me somewhere in the future. Meet ...... Our Guest Design Team Member Trina Hello, my name is Trina Stover and I live in Dunbar, West Virginia with my husband, Jerry, daughter, Jamee, two dogs, two rabbits, two leopard geckos, three birds, one hamster, two turtles, and a Chinese water dragon! We also have a daughter, Sherry, who is married and four adult sons – three in Florida, one in Texas, four grandchildren and another on the way! A few years ago I saw a pattern and instructions for a quilled animal in a child’s craft book. I thought this “new” craft looked really fun and decided to give it a try. Little did I know that Paper Quilling is a centuries- old art form known as Paper Filigree. Well, that was 2003 and I have been hooked on quilling ever since! As a child, I loved to play with paper. Given paper, scissors, and glue I could entertain myself for hours. Quilling gives me a “grown-up” way to play. Quilling is my passion and teaching the art to others is my favorite part! I also love to share by showing my work in art and craft shows, galleries, and gift shops throughout the State of West Virginia. It’s a joy to talk to those whom have never seen quilling and a privilege to share the history with them. If you are new to Quilling – Welcome! If you are one of us who are hooked on the craft – Enjoy! Either way, I hope your time spent rolling and coiling paper will inspire you to further explore this beautiful art form. Why not tell your quilling story? Or share some of your pictures in the Gallery? www.customquillingbydenise.com/CustomQuillingGallery All material and images are copyrighted to original creators. © www.CustomQuilling.com 2007 Page 5 Quill News August 2007 Reviews Heidi I can almost smell the turning leaves when I opened this kit. The fall color mix quilling strips from Lake City Crafts is rich in color and includes a wonderful wine color in the yellows to darks browns. Yes, it even has a bit of orange and black. The charms of leaves are great, the cardstock and vellums all work well together. The pumpkin buttons and fibers add a bit of color too. It is perfect to take with you on your annual drive through the country during the changing of the leaves. Trina The August kit is full of everything fun for fall. The fall assortment quilling paper from Lake City Craft Co includes vibrant colors from deep purple to green, gold, brown and black. The card stock and vellum paper are also in the rich fall hues. I love the coordinating ribbon and fibers. The pumpkin buttons are cute and the charms are ... well ... simply "Charming!" Ann The fall kit includes autumn themed supplies that provide inspiration for a wide variety of projects. The paper maché frame and cardstock can be decorated many different ways with the high quality charms, button, and ribbons.
